He’s still ahead in Montana but trailing in Georgia and Kansas in internal GOP polls….
In the single digits?….
Yea ….It’s 4 months out…
Most probably will carry them on election night…
But Damn???
Single digits???
In addition to public surveys showing him losing decisively to Joseph R. Biden Jr. in a number of battleground states, private Republican polls in recent weeks show the president struggling even in conservative states, leading Mr. Biden by less than five points in Montana and trailing him in Georgia and even Kansas, according to G.O.P. officials who have seen the data.
Last month’s convergence of crises, and the president’s missteps in responding to them, have been well-chronicled: his inflammatory response to racial justice protesters and his ill-considered rally in Tulsa, his refusal to acknowledge the resurgent virus or seriously address detailed reports about Russian operatives’ putting a cash bounty on American soldiers. It’s this kind of behavior, polls indicate, that has alienated swaths of swing voters.
“People are making judgments about the president’s performance there and how he’s handling it,” said John Thune of South Dakota, the second-ranking Senate Republican, making no attempt to sugarcoat what he acknowledged has become a referendum on Mr. Trump’s performance. “Sometimes you get dealt a hand and you got to play it.”
Yet as demoralizing as June was for many Republicans, what was less visible were the frenetic, and often fruitless, attempts by top Republicans to soothe the president and steer him away from self-sabotage, while also manipulating him to serve their own purposes.
One Republican official who is in frequent contact with the campaign expressed incredulity at how some aides willfully distort the electoral landscape to mollify Mr. Trump, recalling one conversation in which they assured him he was faring well in Maine, a state where private polling shows he’s losing….
CG says
There is a just released public poll from Montana showing Trump up 52-38 in Montana, while also showing the Democrat ahead in the Senate race. I doubt he is truly in that might danger at the moment in Montana or Kansas.
I wish it were true though as it would have to increase the pressure on him quitting, which remains hard to envision, but something that Democrats clearly do not want to happen.

The piece points to ‘internal’ polling….
CG says
I can’t find anything beyond a paywall but I very much doubt that either campaign has internal polling showing Biden ahead in Kansas.

Straight from the post CG….

The link is behind a paywall

Whatever certain polls say…
If Trump loses Montana and/or Kansas?
He and the Republicans are in store for a devastating defeat.
Likely? No,but surely more possible than it was a few short months ago.
Zreebs says
So now CG is claiming Democrats don’t want Trump to quit? Which one? I would imagine just about every Democrat I know wants Trump to quit. Pretty remarkable that someone could be so clueless about his ability to understand what other people think.
Zreebs says
If there is a Democrat on this site who would not want Trump to quit, my bet is it would be James. But I guess even he wants Trump to quit.
My Name Is Jack says
Hell yeah I want that bastard out yesterday!
CG and James want to believe Trump would like instantly fade away
In my view, if Trump were to quit he won’t go quietly. Its not in his nature and millions of his supporters will blame the Republicans for not being sufficiently supportive of him.
Indeed Trump leaving will not be the end of the Republicans problems at all.In some ways, they will be just beginning.
Scott P says
If Trump were to announce he’s not running again before the comvention I could see delegates drafting him as the GOP nominee.
In fact Trump would welcome that sort of drama
My Name Is Jack says
Yeah that would be a setup for his kind of exhibition.
Plus it would be funny as Hell.
jamesb says
Guys?
I would have NO problem with Trump quitting…
I would NOT be surprised…..
The guy is a caged animal….
No one wants to accept him except his supporters
QUIT‼️
Have Pence pardon him….
Get the fuck out!
jamesb says
Pence would be terrible but a holiday from Trump and his chaos…..
Scott P says
I certainly want Trump to quit. I just don’t think it’s going to happen. Trump and the vast majority of Republicans keep telling us the polls were wrong in 2016. So why would Trump quit based on the polls?
CG desperately wants Trump to quit so he can fully support all the Republicans who “didn’t mean it” when they endorsed Trump, voted against his impeachment and conviction, praised Trump on countless occasions, etc, etc
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Wanting Trump to quit means wanting Mike Pence to be President.
I suppose that anyone or anything is better than the incumbent, but Mike Pence might not be that much better.
My Name Is Jack says
Oh he would be just as bad on issues ,but he’s not as prone to mindless personal attacks , twittering ,and he would likely try to quickly differentiate himself from Trump by taking this health crisis much more seriously.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
And, for better or for worse, few people doubt that Mike Pence, unlike Trump, is a Christian who takes his faith — as he is given to understand it — seriously.
Of course, many Hoosiers would assert that his actions as Governor fell a little bit short of Christian ideals.
Zreebs says
I don’t think there is any realistic chance that Biden wins Montana (which Bill Clinton won once) or especially Kansas.
Georgia would be a strong possibility, but voter suppression efforts in that GOP-controlled state will be strong. My guess as of today is that Trump “wins” Georgia.
Despite that, at this point I expect Biden to win PA, MI, WI, AZ, NC and FL.
jamesb says
I’d second ur list Z…..
But if internals show it’s close for some races in those states ?
GOPer’s ARE gonna go down with the ship…
Heck… McConnell has said out loud he wants to still leans his party when Schumer gets to be Senate Majority leader
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Montana went for Bill Clinton in 1992 only because the non-Clinton vote was split between Geo. H.W. Bush and H. Ross Perot.
(Of course that could theoretically also be argued for Dole’s taking Montana in 1996, as the non-Dole vote split between Clinton and Perot.)
Otherwise, with the sole exception of LBJ over Goldwater in 1964, Montana has voted for every Republican candidate since 1950, although McCain won Montana in 2008 by only 2.4% (49.5% to 47.1%).
¶ On the other hand, Montana has elected a Republican U.S. Senator only four times since 1950: Conrad Burns 3 times and Steve Daines (inc.) once.

À propos of which, on my one time in the Senate visitors’ gallery in 1965, I saw Roger Mudd of CBS News rest his notebook on the leaning back of Mike Mansfield (D-Mont.), then Senate Majority Leader, to write something.
Just after retiring in 1977, Mansfield was appointed U.S, Ambassador to Japan.
jamesb says
They loved Mansfield in Japan i think i remember…
