CNN Politics reports on the reality of the something that just is NOT gonna happen….
The object SHOULD be to get rid of BAD cops….
Work at Community policing….
Work agains the adversarial culture…
But getting rid of your neighbourhood cops?
NOT gonna happen….
Saturday will mark two months since George Floyd died at the hands of Minneapolis police officers, igniting a national reckoning over racial injustice and police brutality.
The intervening two months have seen a remarkable cultural embrace of the Black Lives Matter movement, which was featured on the mound at Nationals Park on the opening day of Major League Baseball.
Protests continue in cities across the country, as CNN’s Ray Sanchez writes — a new kind of sustained protest movement that has emerged as the country mourns the passing of leaders from an earlier generation, like John Lewis.
But we haven’t seen sweeping national reforms or structural changes — and now President Donald Trump appears to banking on backlash to help him get reelected….

I don’t think many people ever thought Police Departments were going to be abolished.
The term really stood for reform.
And they do need reform ,much more than simply saying “get rid of bad cops.”They need budgetary reform, promotion reform, retirement reform, mission reform, hiring reform and that’s just for starters.
Most Police Departments ,and I’ve worked with ten or so in my career, suffer from poor hiring practices, a top heavy bureaucracy , wasted manpower on peripheral enforcement, poor training practices, failing to retire over the hill officers ,and much more.
From your comments it is quite obvious that you understand little about actual Police work and your opinions are shaped by the typical pre conceived notions of a “support the police” no matter what mentality still present in much of our society.
I don’t count myself in that demographic.Your view that just get rid of a few bad apples and everything will be hunky dory is simplistic and sadly indicative of the opinion of likely many other White people.
Too bad.Expect continuing societal disruptions until attitudes change and meaningful actions take place .
You’ve been on this kick for awhile. This is like your fourth or so post on this subject.I haven’t commented because I didn’t care to discuss the matter with a closed minded individual like you.Sometimes though ,ignorance needs to be answered.

So far Jack?
I’ve been correct….
The term IS …’Defund the Police’
THAT is NOT gonna happen….
Hiring practices and promotions criteria are the responsibility of the city government HR civil service people….
Training is mandated by most states….
Retirement benefits is negotiated by the union and government….
Your comments on this are naive and ill-informed…
Do yourself a favour and go sit-down with a few cops, their bosses and the mayor’s people and come back and try out the same statement…
It won’t work…
Again?
From the bottom of local government to the top of federal government in BOTH parties ?
There is little appetite for major change within the nation’s law enforcement community….
That IS NOT good…
The things I point to SHOULD be done …
It would help the cops out there that work 24/7 and have to make split second decisions that involve life and death sometimes…
But cooler minds know that the more you isolate that cop?
The MORE you screw ALL of us…

Typical simple emotional response by one whose ignorance on a host of subjects is well known by all who post here.
I’ve been prosecuting cases and working with Police Departments for years.
My naievete and Ill informed persona is there for all to say.
Go back to watching reruns of “Cops” and “Law and Order.”
Like I’ve said before as regards you…
“Ignorance is bliss.”

Go ask them like I suggested….

Interestingly and amusingly, you are opposed to Kamala Harris as Bidens running mate because she has been a prosecutor and thus is too close to the police.
Explain, given your comments above, why is that a detriment.Seemingly, according to you(and we all know how “right” you are) that should be a major plus for her?
jamesb says
Harris will be called by some to explain why she didn’t go after Mnuchin for one….
She will be knocked about the Fan Francisco Mayor….
GOPer’s will dig into her AG record…
While Harris went with Sanders on Medicare -for- ALL?
She doesn’t have a ‘progressive’ record as a prosecutor…
Again?
If I was Biden?
I’d send her to de-Barr the Justice Department

Uh James let me give you my schedule for today…
At 830 I will be handling the morning arraignments
At 930 I will be in Court handling several arranged pleas
At 1000 I will be reviewing a number of cases so I can make plea offers
During my morning I will be talking with numerous police officers, likely ten or more.I do this on a daily basis. This is my job.
You want to maintain your “everything is fine” attitude?I couldn’t care less.
The last thing I ,or anybody else here needs I might add, is some corny lecture from the likes of you that you know all about this subject because you have “talked” to some cops.

The nation’s black mayors gathered last month and formed a group they called the Mayors Peace Pact for Community Centered Policing.
The plan outlined by the African American Mayors Association calls for providing transparency in policing, reevaluating police policies and union contracts, advocating for federal policy changes, improving community engagement and creating city budgets reflecting community values.
In interviews, the leaders of the African American mayors’ group said they want to build on the momentum of the police reform movement ignited by the death of George Floyd — and that they do not favor “defunding the police.”
