She didn’t….
She’s now become the favourite to be Joe Biden’s Vice President pick….
The NY Times does a piece on the political side of Susan Rice to sorta prop THAT up on here resume….
On an autumn Friday not long before the 2018 elections, Susan E. Rice was traveling through the Phoenix airport and watching from afar as Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh moved steadily toward confirmation. The convulsive Senate battle had reached a climax, and for Ms. Rice’s party an unhappy one: Senator Susan Collins, the Maine Republican, had just announced her support for Justice Kavanaugh, effectively sealing his victory.
When a former White House colleague tweeted plaintively, asking who might take down Ms. Collins in the 2020 election, Ms. Rice fired off a two-letter reply: “Me.”
The message excited Ms. Rice’s followers, startled her friends and puzzled Democratic Party leaders, most of whom were surprised to learn the former national security adviser had any interest in electoral politics. Party strategists were already in the process of recruiting a challenger for Ms. Collins, and Ms. Rice had not been on their radar as an option. Though she had family roots in Maine, she did not even live in the state.
In public, Ms. Rice did little to clarify her intentions, and she made no overtures to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. When Ms. Rice announced several months later that she had decided against running for family reasons, most Democrats concluded she had never given it real consideration.
They were wrong: Before ruling out the race, Ms. Rice had quietly explored the idea of battling Ms. Collins for weeks, seeking advice from seasoned politicians in Maine, friendly operatives in Washington and top advisers to former President Barack Obama, including Valerie Jarrett and the pollster Joel Benenson. Within her political circle, the sincerity of her interest was clear.
In the end, Ms. Rice did not run. But her exploration of the race represented an emphatic declaration of new political aspirations. It was Ms. Rice’s first and only examination of what it would mean to become a candidate, and test the appeal of her formidable credentials not to her fellow experts but to voters for whom the National Security Council is a distant and obscure institution….
Note…
If you do NOT ‘get it’ that Harris and Rice are now in a race in the media to get the Biden VP job?
You’re missing things…..
Scott P says
New poll has Collins with 39% against Gideon 44% in Maine.
If you can’t break 40% as an incumbent you’re toast.
Especially now that Maine has ranked choice voting they aren’t going to get another LePage creeping into office with 40%
CG says
How many of the undecided are Trump supporters who do not like Collins but will ultimately vote for her?
This doesn’t seem like a poll that pushed leaners.
Scott P says
Trump gets 38% in the same poll so…
CG says
Maybe the same floor or could be different people in both.
Biden has six points more than Gideon.
jamesb says
As long as no Rasmussen poll is averaged in in?
Trump’s numbers are gonna be @ 40…. Or LOWER….
Keith says
Maine has rank choice voting and Susie has the same positive rating as Trump. She’s dead man walking.
jamesb says
Gonna be Majority Leader

Breaking.,,
Biden says he’ll announce his VP choice in a week….
Interesting that Rice is peaking in the media..
CG says
Biden was told some fake news by a reporter. He was told the Marlins shut their season down. Biden then said that sports probably shouldn’t be going on now. In fact, the Marlins are just on pause until Sunday apparently.
I pretty much assume this 60 game MLB season will wind up being canceled eventually.. with the Cubs in first place.
jamesb says
First?
The Marlin’s where in Georgia
Second?
Baseball
Need to stay in a ‘bubbie
CG says
They need to stay in a Jewish grandmother?
Scott P says
Over/under on Trump jettisoning Pence the next day to try and steal the media spotlight?
CG says
I know he will talk incessantly about Rice’s son, if that is who the pick is.
My prediction is that it will be Harris. The Bidens are said to still be upset with her over what happened in the debate (which she has no regrets for), but someone will tell him it’s the safest pick and he just needs to get over with.
If he can’t, I would not rule out Bass.
The least worse choice to me would be Demings.
Scott P says
They’d all be great choices, but I still stand by Harris being the best combination of most qualified, telegenic, and able to deliver votes.
Usually these VP picks turn out to be someone that was thought to be the favorite all along.
Every once in awhile you have a Sarah Palin or Dan Quayle come in out of the blue at the last minute, but usually not.
jamesb says
I’ve been saying he needs to pick Rice …
CG says
Could be a big day for Kyle..
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Well if Mike Pence is VP to accommodate the Evangelicals, Kyle Rice could do the same for Biden among Pentecostals.
jamesb says
It won’t work….
I think it would just make things worst as desperation
CG says
Maybe with Susan’s last name, she should have run against Cotton in Arkansas. Democrats did not field a candidate there.
I think rice is a bigger crop than cotton there.
Zreebs says
I knew rice was a big crop in Louisiana, but I was surprised that it might even be bigger in Arkansas!
Democratic Socialist Dave says
I’m certain that every Rice in America has heard far too many jokes about Minute Rice, Rice Krispies and Uncle Ben’s Converted Rice.
When I was growing up in post-war London, the sugar-frosted equivalent of Rice Krispies was Ricicles, with the catchy slogan, “Ricicles are Twicicles as Nicicles!”
And I wonder if — a dozen years after Politics1’s comment board — Kyle Rice has reached the 35 years necessary to be President or Vice President.
CG says
I think he’s probably 32 now
Zreebs says
I’m reasonably sure you researched this. Hope you didn’t put in the same effort That you made in researching Keith.
Keith says
Oh that’s an ongoing effort Zreebs, it never stops.
Such a crazy day. Trump continues with the crazy virus denying theories, Barr lied to Congress yet again, and it appears that my friend Kamala may be our next Vice President. I knew her when.
But I am equally proud of an old friend who spent much of last summer staying in our guest house composing music for the Marvelous Mrs. Mazel show. He just got nominated for an Emmy. Now the real campaign begins. The Emmy stuff makes Presidential politics look tame.
Zreebs says
I guess I could guess the approximate age of most of the pdog participants, but Would likely be wrong by a few years for most of us. I would be off by a lot if I were to estimate the P1 ages.
ronnieevan says
Zreebs, I volunteered for Mo Udall during the New Hampshire primary and met him a few years later. Still my most exciting “famous person” moment.
Zreebs says
Ronnie, you were the one person on this site that I had no idea how old you were! I was still too young to vote in the 1976 primary, but I recall rooting for Udall. He kept Losing primary after primary, but he never gave up! Jimmy Carter had broader appeal and in retrospect was a better choice.
CG says
I am the only one who was not alive in 1976
Democratic Socialist Dave says
I’m not sure that CG’s estimate of Kyle Rice’s age required that much research, since Kyle was about 20 years old (and, for that matter, college-aged) when Politics1’s chat board shut down just before the 2008 election.
Scott P says
My 9th grade English teacher was named Mrs Rice.
Her son–Santino Rice– was a couple years younger than me. He was a contestant and later a judge on the TV show Project Runway.
He’s likely the most famous person I went to high school with.
Scott P says
And come to think of it my teacher Mrs Rice resembled Susan Rice quite a bit.
CG says
I wonder if jack knows of Ronnie Rice, singer of New Colony Six from the ’60s.
My Name Is Jack says
YesI remember them.
Rice was the lead singer and I think played keyboards.
They were one of the first “soft rock” bands.I remember in particular a song they did “,I Will Always Think About You.”
CG says
He’s from the Chicago suburbs and many years ago, was one of the “celebrity judges” on a local game show where my mother won a ’57 Chevy.
Zreebs says
The most famous person I went to high school with might have a news reporter on the NJ evening news. I can’t say I knew her well, but her sister was a popular cheerleader and classmate.
The most successful classmate might have been the former CEO of a large NJ casino. Funny thing about that guy is that he was at best an average student.

Trump should run with Condoleezza Rice, although he’d think her underqualified in talent (i.e. infinitely smarter and better-informed than him), and background (not being a white man). Plus she holds a doctorate.
But I trust that Dr Rice would have principle and brains enough to decline (knowing that the President is incapable of moral or mental reform).
But if that were to happen on another planet in an alternate universe you could see matching 5-4 bumper stickers for BIDEN-RICE and TRUMP-RICE.
ronnieevan says
Not sure about Dr. Rice having “principles” or a great moral compass.
jamesb says
I am on Rice….
She worked throughout the Obama admin in the White House and from reports is just as tough as Harris ….
jamesb says
Working in the nations seat of power means u HAVE TO have a political side….
