From this dogs point of view she IS the logical choice….
Non-Political….She’s never ran for office…But has campaigned for others…
Experience on the highest level of government….
Worked with Biden during his time in office….
Has no law enforcement history….
She has been the underdog in the media , but actually should be rated as the led ahead of Harris and Warren who both have obstacles in their resumes much bigger than any Rice has….
Sens. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) are getting most of the buzz, but former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice is also getting a lot of attention in Joe Biden’s campaign as he considers who to pick as his running mate, sources say.
Rice, who also served as former President Obama’s national security adviser, has seen her stock rise amid a series of crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I know she’s very much in the mix,” a source close to the Biden campaign said.
One factor to watch is Biden’s relationship with Rice. The two worked closely in the Obama administration, and personal chemistry is an underrated factor in vice presidential decisions.
“I know they have a good relationship — perhaps the best relationship of anyone on the list,” the source close to the Biden campaign said. “They’ve known each other for years, they’ve worked alongside each other and she’s been tested in a way that a lot of folks on the list just haven’t been.”
Biden, who has committed to selecting a woman as his running mate, has said repeatedly that he is looking for someone who is “ready to be president on day one.”
He is also under pressure by some Democrats to pick a woman of color after the death of George Floyd and the demonstrations that followed urging an end to systemic racism.
Harris has widely been seen as the favorite, but sources said Rice should not be counted out.
“Everyone automatically thinks of Kamala when they think he needs to pick a woman of color. It’s become conventional wisdom,” said a source who worked in the Obama administration alongside Biden and Rice. “But if you look at Susan’s credentials, she makes perfect sense. She’s a rock star who has the confidence, stature and gravitas to be vice president.”
In an interview with Norah O’Donnell of CBS last month, Biden said he wants a partner in the White House who is “simpatico.” ….
Note….
In the end?
Presidential candidate generally pick a Vice President they are comfortable with…
Both Harris and Warren have NOT worked closely with Biden and both have cause Biden discomfort in front TV camera’s and large audience’s….
Rice has Not….

Tammy Duckworth, another person on the short-list, said today she would be open to tearing down statues of George Washington.
This sort of thing would literally be the only way Trump might win.
Scott P says
What she said is she would “listen to tbe argument” of those who want to remove statues of Washington.
One can hear an argument even if they have no intention of supporring it.
The maim crux of her comments this morning was that Trump and Republicans care more about long dead Confederates than the 130000 Americans we have lost to Covid.
100% correct on that.
CG says
That’s like saying a crazy idea of Trump should be listed to. Some ideas are not worth being listened to and those yelling those crazy ideas should not be led to think they are contributing anything acceptable or realistic.
George Washington was not a Confederate. We all ought to be smart enough to recognize distinctions.
jamesb says
Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) said Sunday that President Trump’s speech at Mount Rushmore’s Fourth of July celebration demonstrated that “his priorities are all wrong.”
The Illinois Democrat told CNN’s “State of the Union” that the president’s Friday speech in South Dakota “spent more time worried about honoring dead Confederates” than discussing the number of Americans who died from COVID-19.
She also criticized the president for not spending as much time discussing the intelligence that Russia offered bounties to Taliban-linked militants to kill U.S. military members in Afghanistan.
“I mean his priorities are all wrong here,” she said. “He should be talking about what we’re gonna do to overcome this pandemic. What are we going to do to push Russia back?”
“Instead, he had no time for that,” she added. “He spent all his time talking about dead traitors.”….
More @ The Hill…
CG says
She should stick to the facts as well, Trump did not actually bring up the name of any Confederate figure or make any reference to them. His political advisors have him talking about efforts against the four on Mt. Rushmore (including Lincoln) as well as other incidents where mobs have torn down statues of abolitionists and those who fought for the Union. The left needs to denounce these things just like the right needs to move on from Confederate identity politics.
Trump did make a reference to “the great Andrew Jackson”, which I disagree with historically. However, Democrats, up until about two years ago at least, were still naming their big annual political dinners after him.
Scott P says
Here’s Biden’s response on statues
https://www.ajc.com/news/biden-feds-obligated-protect-washington-jefferson-columbus-statues/SzHzXgEcaQ4V06fT2T0yxI/
Scott P says
But by all means keep defending Trump’s Confederacy worship.
After all–you will be voting for plenty of Republicans who defended Trump 8n the future.
Might as well get back in the fold while still being officially opposed to Trump the person.
CG says
I disagree with Trump’s stance on Confederates in regards to their statues or base names, etc. You ought to know that.
The fact is though that he never directly referenced that at his Mt Rushmore speech, despite the false claims he did. He is talking about the other aspects of the left toppling statues, etc, because that is a rare issue these days where the public would side with him. Politics 101.
I do not know who I will be voting for in the future. The future is in the past as the saying goes. I know how much you want me to vote for Trump just to have a boogeyman here.
CG says
Well then Biden and his team should react to the Duckworth interview and her problem with answering a politically sensitive question the right way as a sign she may not be ready for prime time.
At this point, I think their best bet is Demings.
Scott P says
I prefer Harris and Demings too, but Duckworth’s military record would get more air in the event of her being picked than this statue thing. Except on FOX–which is the onky network to lead with her status comments rather than her takedown of Trump.
And we all know where CG’s bread is buttered.
jamesb says
I keep REPEATING….
Val Demings has been a cop for 2 1/2 decades….
She is NOT , I believe gonna be pick….
But I suppose some GOPer’s would want her so they could try to use her record to attack her….
CG says
She was a cop. Why is that a bad thing?
What record would Republicans attack her on? Her police record? Well, I guess Trump would temporarily turn anti-cop, but he’s about the only one would have the chutzpah to try.
Keith says
Why not a black anti-abortion minister from Alabama as his running mate?
Corey doesn’t know who he’s going to vote for in the future?? Really?
We know. The Republican nominee for anything, doesn’t matter is they were in bed with Trump or not.
CG says
Biden would win in a landslide if he picked someone like that. H. Keith, and the left understood that beating Trump should be considered paramount.
Keith says
I do, but you don’t because you still are voting for Trump. We’re all kind of tired of this little game you play. “I’m a never Trumper” until it’s time to put your vote where it counts.
Your opinion on who should or shouldn’t be Joe’s running mate is useless on so many levels.
CG says
Just stay away from the swing voters. You might be Trump’s MVP again.
Scott P says
Why would Biden pick aproan anti choice VP? Should Romney have picked a pro choice VP? Woukd that have ensured his victory in a landslide because both sides of the coin are played. What a dumb statement.
Scott P says
Why would Biden pick an anti choice VP
Keith says
I was making a joke regarding Corey Ray’s “sage” advice that the Democrats should have picked an anti-choice Senate candidate in Alabama rather than Doug Jones.
Tammy Duckworth would be a strong choice because of her military background and personal story.
She was a neighbor in DC when she had her first baby and it was amazing to see her in a wheelchair holding the child in the lobby of our building. She never let her disability get in the way of her mission or work. I loved the fact that she brought the baby to the floor, and amused to see how it annoyed the Republicans.
Trump gave a government funded and race baiting speech on Friday and again yesterday. It was clear what his message was, it’s been the Republican message for over 50 years.
His advertising campaign and messaging is racist and xenophobic. The Senator was correct in her assessment.
I really think Duckworth’s success is just too much for some people to take given what she has overcome.
Scott P says
Yes Keith, my comment was directed at CG stating that Biden would “win in a landslide” if he picked a black anti-abortion minister for Vice President.
It was a completely ignorant statement with no basis in fact.
jamesb says
On Washington and his history with slaves….
Few Americans are aware of this…
Of course it is of the times back then…
Nevertheless?
Wiki…
CG says
Most Americans who know anything about history in general know that Washington owned slaves.
Those that want to make Washington D.C. a state are in an interesting prediction. What would they call the state?
Keith says
Columbia of course. We already have a state named after George.
Those who want to make the District a State? Don’t we all want to make sure every American has elected representation with voting rights?
Only Republicans don’t.
CG says
You can’t name a state after Christopher Columbus!
CG says
Judd Gregg, the former moderate Republican Senator from New Hampshire says Biden will defeat Trump and then eventually be deposed via the 25th Amendment in favor of a younger, more leftist Vice President.
https://thehill.com/opinion/campaign/505924-judd-gregg-the-coming-biden-coup
I have merely said people on the left will be calling on Biden to step down.
Zreebs says
Biden will likely win and serve one term.
I doubt that progressives would even try to remove Biden, but If the do try, they will fail fo sure.
jamesb says
Joe Biden is running on serving a FULL TWO TERMS…..
ANYTHING else makes him a lame duck from the jump….
Scott P says
Judd Gregg is either an idiot, trying to reelect Trump or is just trying to be relevant again.
Or all three.
Keith says
Judd Gregg? Is he still alive? Maybe he can go lend a hand to the Susan Collins campaign.
Phil Rucker reminded everyone about Trump’s lack of interest and understanding of history by retelling a story from John Kelly in that he (Kelly) had to explain to Trump what happened at Pearl Harbor as they stood at the U.S.S. Arizona.
This sudden faux outrage and concern over our Nation’s history is the Immigrant Caravan fear mongering of 2020. Only the racist base of the Republican Party will believe this one.
Scott P says
I read Gregg’s article. If he is what CG considers “moderate” after that his party is in worse trouble than he wants to admit.
To boil it down Gregg’s article was basically the same argument I heard from a troll on the Nextdoor app–if you aren’t familiar Nextdoor is a neighborhood app that people can post things like lost pets, complaints about trash service, etc. Of course as with any online community it delves into politics here and there.
One guy who clearly relishes being part of the 15% in my city who cast a vote for Trump in 2016 claimed that Biden would be “pushed around by his liberal female VP”.
The guy is also gay and somehow envisions himself as an iconoclast by supporting Trump and Pence. In reality he’s just a chicken rooting for Col. Sanders.
CG says
Judd Gregg was considered a moderate.
Perhaps you forget that Barack Obama nominated him to be Secretary of Commerce.
CG says
and he’s always been a critic of Trump.
Scott P says
There’s nothing critical of Trump in his article.
CG says
Besides saying Trump is just short of “likely” to lose? Trump would disagree.
But it’s an Op-Ed. That wasn’t the point. Gregg has written several previous Op-Eds criticizing Trump for The Hill and saying how bad he was for Republicans.
I am surprised he would suggest that the 25th Amendment might somehow be involved to “coup” Biden, but I do think that there will be voices on the left in the party, say once we reach the halfway point, and thus the successor would be eligible to run twice, to step aside and make the VP the incumbent, in advance of 2024 and so that woman could possibly be President for 10 years.
CG says
But Biden says he intends to run for reelection in 2024 and as excited as Scott is about Biden personally, clearly he will be on his side for that too.
Scott P says
I’m concerned with 2020 now. Let’s see what happens in the next few years before we start talking 2024.
Who knows? You may be writing in a “conservative” for a third time if the GOP nominates DJT Sr or Junior that year.
CG says
The reelection campaign for any first term President basically begins on Day 1.
I think it would be smart for Biden in regards to 2020 politically to have ruled out seeking reelection. I understand wanting to take one election at a time, but once it’s over, you pretty much have to decide if you stand with Biden or not.
Scott P says
I think making a one term pledge is not good politics.
IMO Biden will likely not run again, even if he says otherwise now.
CG says
In my view, making a one term pledge, and saying how he would simply be focused on unifying the country and not as concerned with political matters, would present a good contrast with Trump…. and probably give more of an excuse to some remaining deadenders on the left to vote for him.
Scott P says
Well Biden must be doing something right. He’s got Republicans all woreied that they will not only lose the White House, but the Senate too.
Maybe you should focus on the somebody you are going to vote for. Of course not having a candidate means he or she is perfect in every way.
CG says
He’s doing something right, alright.
He’s lucky enough to be running against Trump. Staying safe (personally and politically) in his basement has done him well.
Scott P says
Sorry for all the typos. As has been noted before replying to comments on these threads from a mobile device is next to impossible.
jamesb says
I gotcha Scott…
Scott P says
Or maybe, just maybe–Biden is actually running a good campaign. Comments from the peanut gallery notwithstanding.
CG says
It’s been largely an invisible campaign, given all that has been going on. That’s not Biden’s fault, but it has worked to his benefit to be out of the spotlight. It has helped him outraise Trump, etc.
jamesb says
Not REALY invisible….
Donald J Trump IS out there is ALL his glory RUNNING AGAINST HIMSELF thinking he can replicate his 2016 Houdini act again….
Sure don’t look like this time…

I was very wrong in 2016 and for all I know may even be wrong in 2020, but I am damn near certain that the 2024 nominee will not be named Trump.
Like you, I will take things once election at a time.
jamesb says
I’m with ya on one step at a time….
But I’m sure the B iden people have someone that stands in the room and repeats 2010 midterms every once and while when they get TOOOOOO far ahead of themselves…
Scott P says
Well as desperate as the Trump Republicans are the idea that Biden will be “pushed around” by his VP–a woman who might be more liberal than he is–is all they have left.
So Gregg is personally opposed to Trump. He is still pushing unlikely conspiracy theories that Trump and his campaign likely welcome.
I wonder if he is voting or sitting this election out.
CG says
I think he is speaking about other voices in the party. Apparently, he thinks there will be a lot of them in the Cabinet.
I think it is more likely that that anyone who favors such a tactic would let this start at the grassroots level.
As a political tactic, it makes perfect sense. Get someone in who can possibly run twice as the incumbent.
We all have to admit that deep down we know the forces at play that might elect Biden are anti-Trump far more than they are pro-Biden.
