What started as Republicans asking questions and scratching their heads at their party leader letting the Russian do something that is disrespectful and harmful to Americans’s soldiers has now turned into circling the wagons AGAIN around another Donald Trump fuckup move to NOT go hard against Russia….
We don’t know if it’s Trump looking for another round of supportive action from the Russians in this fall’s election or that Putin does have something on Trump?
But?
This is turning into a repeat of the 2016 election where the US intelligence community is STILL uneasy with their boss, the President of the United States….
Republicans lawmakers seem intent on backing Trump all the way to end, even if Trump winning another term would involve Putin renting space in Trump’s White House ?
Senate Republicans are defending President Trump’s handling of intelligence claiming that Russia’s military intelligence units offered bounties to Taliban militants to kill U.S. troops, arguing the evidence of bounties has not received sufficient verification.
Trump has come under sharp criticism since Saturday for not issuing a forceful response to the allegations or vowing to get to the bottom of the claims. Instead, the president has waved off media reports as “fake news” and suggested the story is meant to make Republicans “look bad.”
Trump claimed in a tweet Sunday night, “Intel just reported to me that they did not find this info credible, and therefore did not report it to me or @VP. Possibly another fabricated Russia Hoax, maybe by the Fake News @nytimesbooks.”
One Republican lawmaker, Sen. Ben Sasse (Neb.), said Monday that the White House needed to get more “serious” in its response after he was flooded by calls from Nebraskan constituents alarmed about media reports of the bounties.
By Tuesday, however, Republican senators started to rally around Trump, defending his handling of intelligence after receiving a briefing at the White House from Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe and national security adviser Robert O’Brien.
Republican lawmakers who attended the White House briefing said media reports about the intelligence were “inaccurate” or based on “unverified” intelligence.
GOP senators argued that Democrats on the Senate Intelligence Committee had access to the same intelligence the president did and didn’t sound an alarm, implying the recent controversy has a political motive with the election four months away….
Note….
While Trump originally lied about NOT knowing anything about the situation ….
Several sources have confirmed that Trump WAS briefed about it back in February…
It appears also that President Trump does NOT pay much attention to his infrequent Intelligence briefs….
There appears to be a ongoing distrust between the President and the countries Intelligence community ….
All this doesn’t seem to matter , as usual for most Republican lawmakers, who are going to stay with Trump it looks like until he goes down in flames?

Shocking!

Don’t worry, within a week James will post that “sources” say “some Republicans are “concerned” about this matter.
James will then editorialize that this surely shows how Republicans are “abandoning “ Trump!
CG says
Maybe he is talking about the voters more than the politicians.
People here on this particular site often seem to be stuck with just thinking about the professional politicians.
My Name Is Jack says
The article was about Republican lawmakers.
However if you are now getting insides James’s mind?
Have fun!

Jeff Van Drew is one of those Hillary to Trump voters that Scott was ruminating on.
As well as the Blagojevich Family and the families of others he pardoned or commuted.

Just posted my come back Jack!

Knowing that the GOP Senators were briefed by so objective, expert and impartial authority as John Ratcliffe [R-Texas], the DNI whose first nomination had to be withdrawn because he lacked relevant expertise and candor about his paper-thin qualifications, fills me with confidence.
Surely, the President’s attack dog during impeachment would never fudge, dissemble or rationalise; he’d never cast doubt on the conclusions of apolitical career intelligence experts just to please his boss.
Now all my doubts and criticisms have been laid to rest 😉 … I don’t think.

I Like ur reasoning DSD….

And (to speak of reasoning) who could be more rational than Ratcliffe ? 😉

The GOP Under Trump
David Wasserman: “When President Trump took office in January 2017, there were 241 Republicans in the House. Since then, 115 (48%) have either retired, resigned, been defeated or are retiring in 2020.”
