That’s the view from the Huffington Post….
It would seem that Republicans and Trump are doing EVERYTHING they can to lose votes come November 3rd…..
Will Pelosi go along with this in the House….
Senate Republicans on Monday are set to unveil their long-awaited proposal for another coronavirus economic stimulus package, including some kind of extension of enhanced unemployment benefits that are set to expire this week for millions of Americans.
Based on Republicans’ descriptions of their plan, a trade association for state unemployment agencies has already said it would be an implementation nightmare with wildly different results among states.
The $1 trillion measure is supposed to be a starting point for negotiations with top congressional Democrats. But already it has divided the GOP and faces stiff opposition from conservatives. It includes another round of stimulus checks, similar to those paid out earlier this year, as well as aid to schools and smaller businesses, and expanded liability protections.
The Republican proposal will replace the extra $600 in federal unemployment benefits that Congress created in March with an individualized amount based on workers’ previous wages, White House chief of staff Mark Meadows said Sunday.
“We are going to be prepared on Monday to provide unemployment insurance extension that would be 70% of whatever the wages you were prior to being unemployed,” Meadows said on ABCNews’ “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.”
But there could be a huge problem with structuring the proposal like that if Republicans want the extra $600 replaced immediately. It would take at least a month for states to set the extra benefits according to individual wages, the National Association of State Workforce Agencies said. For some states, it could take longer than 12 weeks. …

Meanwhile, Larry “blow “ Kudlow ,Trumps economic advisor , says the Republican program, will include an increased tax deduction for meals and entertainment,a favorite tax break for the wealthy.

“Blow” was a major booster of the payroll tax reduction gambit, along with Stephen Moore another Trump advisor who was quite vociferous on the subject and along with Kudlow sold Trump on the idea of a veto if it wasn’t included in the package.
Apparently they didn’t count on a literal revolt in Republican ranks .Incumbents didn’t look forward to explaining to average workers why they were only getting a few bucks a week while White collar types were getting considerably more.
Trumps veto threat ,like most of his previously, faded away, and the debate is over how much everyone will get in a one time payout ,as well as how much of the $600 supplemental unemployment payment will be kept.

Another casualty of Trumps cancellation of the Republican Convention in Jacksonville?
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis who has been catching well deserved criticism for his bumbling handling of the pandemic.
Florida is now one of the hotspots in the country and DeSantis is getting the blame for downplaying the matter ,as well as ignoring scientific recommendations for handling the spread ,and a way too quick reopening.
DeSantis was to have a starring role in the confab ; however on the same day he announced that Florida was getting things under control, Trump pulled the trigger and canceled the whole deal, labelling it “too dangerous.”
Dear Leader giveth and taketh away!

Apparently former GOP Rep. David Jolly is considering running for Florida Governor in 2022. But not as a Republican.
CG says
He seemed to indicate he would be more inclined to run against Rubio for the Senate.
I doubt he could get nominated by the Democrats. They did accept Charlie Crist, but were in a more desperate situation then perhaps.

Yeah the Democratic bench in Florida was pretty thin a few years ago.
Can’t really speak to it’s strength now–but I would guess Jolly would face some significant opposition in a statewide primary
