Joe Biden did a mini presser yesterday….
Someone took a picture of his hand held notes….
They started off with a Kamala Harris’s name on top and 5 talking points about her….
She HAS been getting bad reviews again…
That Joe Biden would have to be ready to defend her isn’t a good look…
One would think that Biden & Co. do Not want to spend the next 90 days having the media asking about Harris instead of Biden’s policy ….
In addition?
If she doesn’t get the VP spot?
She is surely up for the Attorney General job and Biden needs to show her and others he’s got her back…
As he took questions from reporters on Tuesday, Biden held notes that were captured by an Associated Press photographer. Harris’ name was scrawled across the top, followed by five talking points.
“Do not hold grudges.” “Campaigned with me & Jill.” “Talented.” “Great help to campaign.” “Great respect for her.”
Those are all observations Biden has made about Harris before. But they take on new significance following a recent Politico report that one of Biden’s closest friends and a co-chair of his vice presidential vetting committee, former Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd, still harbors concerns about Harris’ tough debate stage performance and that she hasn’t expressed regret.
The comments attributed to Dodd have drawn condemnation, especially from influential Democratic women who maintain that Harris is being held to a standard that wouldn’t apply to a man running for president.
ronnieevan says
People don’t think Karen Bass has a chance, but I think if Biden doesn’t choose Harris, he will go with Bass.
Keith says
I think this is a good bet. I think it will be Kamala, and that would be the best pick. But Bass has gone before the voters and navigated the politics of Capitol Hill for years, so she would be a good choice from an elect-ability argument.
Of course Bass once said something nice about Castro and that might inflame some old Cuban in Miami Beach (who would never vote for a Democrat anyway), so that will kill Bass’ chances anyway. We were told that here just the other day.
People forget that Biden made some very non-PC comments about Obama before he was picked for VP.
Of course if Kamala is picked, expect to hear about Willie Brown in a nano second. She will be accused of flat backing her way to power.
My Name Is Jack says
Please publish all the “bad reviews” Harris has been getting lately.
Obviously you’ve seen them. Why not share the,?
All I’ve seen is some remark she allegedly made to former Sen Chris Dodd.
jamesb says
The Harris ‘bad’ reviews where on Biden’s cheat sheet jack….
And there ARE MORE in in California ….
CG says
No they weren’t. That doesn’t even make sense. He had “talking points” in case he was asked about her at the press conference.
jamesb says
Those talking points are meant to defend Harris already…
It’s the right thing for Biden to do but it’s not a good look for Harris
CG says
That’s really, really, really weird logic.
jamesb says
Yea…..
REALLY WEIRD….
But Jack has ur back CG
Imagine That🙄
CG says
Well, when people here are forced to admit they agree with ME, that ought to tell you something…
My Name Is Jack says
Translation…
He Lied.
Let’s move on.
My Name Is Jack says
Admit you lied James.
Everyone here knows you did.
Now you’re just compounding the Lie.
Zreebs says
James just wants to tear down other candidates whose last name is not Rice.
My Name Is Jack says
Yeah I know.
He always pulls this.So let’s see all these “bad reviews.”
Apparently, his opinion equals “bad reviews.”
CG says
If Kamala is the pick, james will say that it was the obvious right choice and that he was all for her early on.
CG says
to be fair, his wife has also said that she finds Harris to be rude and abrasive. So that’s a review perhaps.
My Name Is Jack says
Funny how James’s wife always seems to back his opinions.
Mine is just the opposite, usually contradicting me.
In my totally unbiased view, she does it just for purposes of harassment.
jamesb says
Actually Z?
It’s Joe Biden’s choice to make…
But i’m going with Ruce.,..
Here we have Biden ALREADY worried about Harris….
He dies NOT need that…
ronnieevan says
What I don’t get is how Rice ‘balances’ the ticket. Biden has foreign policy creds as does Rice. You would need someone as VP who could help advance the domestic policy agenda.
CG says
What exactly is that agenda besides just not being Trump? Putting aside fighting the pandemic of course.
For many Americans that will very much good enough.
My Name Is Jack says
Oh I have stated many times my belief that this whole campaign is about the pandemic.
Unless this thing is under control and declining by November, I don’t see Trump having much chance of reelection.
CG says
I tend to agree. I also do not think there will be much of a political market for Biden to establish wide sweeping domestic policy changes. People were pretty satisfied with the economy before the virus hit.
People will of course want Biden to get a better handle on the virus but mostly they just want him to not be Trump, and that might mean a low-key Presidency, in which gives soothing speeches about unity, which he has some skill for, but not much else. If he wins, he will have to understand his moment and its limitations.
ronnieevan says
People want more than an un-Trump. They want to address issues of climate change, health care, funding for minority communities, reliable day care, sustainable incomes, gun control, needed infrastructure. These issues will be addressed hand in hand with fighting the pandemic.
jamesb says
Yes indeed RE.
Biden has his work cut out for him
My Name Is Jack says
Oh there’ll be some position papers maybe, a little talk perhaps,
But the overriding issue will be the pandemic.
And I disagree with your premise,
What people want now,in my view, is anybody but Trump…
And there Joe Biden is.
ronnieevan says
By saying that people want more than an un-Trump, I was saying that they want Joe Biden to address the pandemic and a host of other issues. There will be social and economic changes because the pandemic and the times require them.
My Name Is Jack says
All I’m saying is that if Biden wins the election ,it will be because the electorate is frustrated by Trump for a host of reasons ,with his inaction in the face of this pandemic prime among them.
Those other issues will be addressed I’m sure but they will play little ,if any, role In the election itself.
Now if Biden is elected and if the pandemic ends? Then for sure those issues will move ahead.
My Name Is Jack says
As to Biden as President?
That will depend on several factors:Does he bring in a Democratic Senate? If so, how large or small is the majority? How fast is the pandemic brought under control? How quickly the economy rebounds?Or if it rebounds at all?
There are a host of challenges.
But,once again, until this pandemic begins to wane, all the other issues will take a decided back seat.
Scott P says
“People were pretty satisfied with the economy before the virus”
Of course they were–that was before a missed paycheck or two sent them to the edge of foreclosure or eviction.
I wonder what their answer is now. If you think it’s simply get back to the same ole same ole I think you may be surprised.
jamesb says
Right now the headwind for Trump has turned from his stupidly to the virus and his stupidity…
The Republicans seem to be in a tizzy with some wanting to follow Trump and some worried about their political futures next year
ronnieevan says
I agree that in this environment, it’s all hands on deck whether you’ve had foreign or domestic policy experience. It’s just that Rice, besides not holding elected office, only has foreign policy experience. Maybe Biden wants to flip things and primarily navigate domestic policy.
My Name Is Jack says
I agree.
Biden has always regarded himself as a foreign policy maven.
The only advantage Rice has ,in my view ,is that she has a good personal rapport with Biden having worked with him in the Obama Administration.
I don’t underestimate that though.Clinton supposedly picked Gore for that reason as did Obama in choosing Biden. So that is a big plus for Rice.
I previously mentioned the well known travails of little known VP candidates Rice is not well known to the general public and ,if chosen, will hear a lot of Susan who?
ronnieevan says
I think Clinton picked Gore as simpatico. I think Obama picked Biden as an experienced senior statesman who, at the same time, would not challenge Obama for the spotlight as a younger VP would. Also, the “Susan, who?” issue is of concern as is the “Karen who?” The test for me is who does the Milwaukee Democratic community activist have the easiest time “selling” as Biden’s VP: Harris, Rice, Bass or someone else?
jamesb says
I agree on the Obama ….Biden pick which i look at with Biden and Rice….
The ‘selling’ of Harris and others IS in the final week…
bdog says
I think Rice has one more plus on the Competition especially Harris. Rice seems to be more down to earth and personable…Harris isn’t bad, and she was at one point a strong consideration for President, but she showed in those debates she is one tough cut throat lawyer…good for an AG, and good for being a politician, but for VP, I think you want someone who you can relate to and those cut throat lawyer types are not easy to relate to. That’s just my take on Harris V Rice.
jamesb says
RE?
I see it 180 different….
Normally i would agree with u…
But?
Biden….
A Senator since he was a baby ?
Is gonna have his hands full DOMESTICLY
Virus
Economy
Immigration
Trump exc orders
I See the need for a VP that can help the Sec of State repair the damage on the world stage that Trump has screwed up…
NONE of the other women including Harris has the experience and breath of knowledge that Rice has in this AND Biden HAS worked with her before …
A repeat
Kanaka Harris is PERFECT for the AG job which will ALSO be VERY important to Biden and is why i think he had those bullet pints on his briefing sheet fir the presser…
CG says
VPs only tend to have the power delegated to them by the President. By many accounts, Obama did not exactly give Biden a ton to do policy wise. We have heard Biden does not want to be “outshined.” The VP may just be someone that is there.
I think Biden’s Chief of Staff will yield a lot of power in terms of domestic policy and working with Congress. I think it might very well be someone like Senator Coons of Delaware.
jamesb says
CG?
Agreed on the duties …
But i believe Obama is credited with giving Biden access to just about EVERY big policy action he did,..
Biden more than anybody should trying to make his VP’s job meaning full
Finally?
I bet said before….
Forget the suspense stuff…
Biden has a shitload of stuff to do in his first 6 months
All this rookie feel good name people need to go away…
He needs someone who help him….
Rice and Harris are the only ones i seen in it…
And Rice i think fits better on more levels
CG says
He will have a full staff, Cabinet, etc. Yes, there will be a VP, but that person doesn’t really need to do anything except of course be prepared to take over at a moment’s notice, as they all must be. and if that happens, the same staff is still in place anyway.
He might as well just pick Val Demings who might help nail down Florida even with a slight uptick just because of her, and then it would be game over in terms of the EC.
CG says
In regards to Susan Rice, I am just curious if there has ever been someone on a national ticket who has basically spent their entire life and career in Washington D.C. I guess Al Gore came the closest, but he did of course have a home in TN and had been elected several times from there.
jamesb says
so u favor the ole VP stands in the corner thing?
CG says
I think he should pick the best person for the job. of President, if need arise. (and he is the oldest ever) Political skills are sometimes a part of that though and Harris may not have that.
I can think of worse picks than Harris. She was horrible in the Obama Administration on foreign policy in my view, but most Americans probably don’t care.
I do however think the issue of her son would be something that would get far more attention than it should, but that is reality these days and I think that it would be very tough on her family.
My Name Is Jack says
I think you mean Rice in the second paragraph .
As to Rice,I don’t think many people even know who she is.
CG says
I don’t get to have a say on whom Biden should pick but I just think Demings does “the least harm.” The people that just hate cops so much and would thus boycott Biden deserve what they get. Maybe she gets some voters who like cops and would appreciate Biden not giving in to the mob.
Demings is not exactly “ready from day 1” perhaps , but she has a good bio, comes from a swing state, has the least political baggage, and is the most telegenic.
CG says
Yes, I sometimes get them confused when typing fast (No they do not look that much alike.) I always want to say Susan Harris, who has some sort of connection to Clintonworld)
jamesb says
They REALLY. do NOT. look anything like each other….
Demings for Homelnad would be MY choice
My Name Is Jack says
National Security Advisors don’t get much play anymore.
The current one, Robert OBrien ,probably got more coverage for having contracted Covid than anything else he’s done.
Now back when Henry Kissinger had that job in Nixon’s Administrations? He was much more prominent than Secretary of State William Rogers and attracted about as much attention as Nixon. He was a great self promoter.
jamesb says
I disagree Jack.
In the past their job was to take info from ALL the other agency inputs and present THAT to the President ….
For Trump that is in unnecessary ….
Trump does give a shit…
Biden WILL go back the old system fir sure…
The Rice images on google have her right in the middle of Obama/Biden meetings…
The job was important until Trump
My Name Is Jack says
I’m uncertain what you are “disagreeing “ with.
My post concerned the fact that National Security Advisors tend not to get much play in the media anymore, unlike Henry Kissinger did fifty years ago.
I never said it was unimportant.
I was speaking of why Rice is not well known to the public which I had commented on earlier.
Apparently you didn’t understand that.
Not surprising.
Keith says
