He WILL be missed…..
Especially in these times….
Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), the renowned civil rights leader who served as a symbol of the movement throughout his more than three decades in Congress, died Friday at the age of 80.
From the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington to the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Ala., on “Bloody Sunday,” Lewis decisively carved a place for himself in the history books as a courageous young activist during the height of the civil rights movement.
He was elected to Congress in 1986 and served 17 terms representing an Atlanta-area district. While in Congress, Lewis served as a physical reminder of how far the country had come on civil rights — and how much more was left to be done.
The Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), of which Lewis was one of its most senior members, mourned that “the world has lost a legend.”
“The Congressional Black Caucus is known as the Conscience of the Congress. John Lewis was known as the conscience of our caucus,” the CBC said in a statement.
Lewis, the youngest keynote speaker at the March on Washington in 1963, was the only person who delivered remarks at the event to witness Barack Obamawinning election as the nation’s first African American president 45 years later….

While we remember a hero like John Lewis, the present occupant of the White House keeps up his petty games.
The official portraits of former Presidents George W Bush and Bill Clinton have been removed from the Grand foyer of the Executive mansion. It is customary that recent Presidents portraits be displayed there.
No reason is being given for this action.

Tributes poor in….
Even from GOPer’s….I do NOT expect one from Trump unless someone writes it for him
Past presidents, members of Congress and numerous celebrities delivered an outpouring of condolences and respect for Georgia Rep. John Lewis, a monumental figure in the nation’s civil rights movement who passed away Friday.
Barack Obama praised Lewis, 80, for the physical and emotional sacrifices he made for the US as an original Freedom Rider, March on Washington organizer and leader of the “Bloody Sunday” demonstration from Selma to Montgomery — during which a police officer broke Lewis’ skull during a beating.
“He loved this country so much that he risked his life and his blood so that it might live up to its promise,” Obama wrote in a statement posted to Medium.
“And through the decades, he not only gave all of himself to the cause of freedom and justice but inspired generations that followed to try to live up to his example.”
Bill Clinton also heaped praise on the late Democrat, tweeting that Lewis “gave all he had to redeem America’s unmet promise of equality and justice for all, and to create a place for us to build a more perfect union together.
“In so doing he became the conscience of the nation.”
Lewis, often referred to as the “Conscious of Congress,” inspired reverence from Democrats and Republicans alike over his more than three decades serving as a Georgia elected official.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell hailed Lewis as a “pioneering civil rights leader who put his life on the line to fight racism, promote equal rights, and bring our nation into greater alignment with its founding principles.”…

Joe will put them back right after he has the place fumigated.
But how many insults can the Bushes endure before they all endorse Biden.

Good question Keith.
And just yesterday on here we heard a full throated defense of the Iraq War from someone who will in the future vote for those who like him fully supported the Iraq War. But can’t seem to defemd it when their hero Trump says it was a waste of time money and lives.
It’s one of the very few things Trump is right about. But what does it say about that war that countless Republicans in Congress can’t defend it against a charlatan like Trump.
That must make the families of those we lost in Iraq feel SO special.
“Sir, madam–your child’s sacrifice was necessary to keep America free. But you have to understand I can’t be seen defending that sacrifice if it means offending Trump and risking a nasty tweet. Rest assured when a Democrat speaks out against the war I’ll tell them they are weak and hate America”

Lewis is enroute to Wash DC from Georgia by a US Air Force Special Missions aircraft….
Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden plans to travel to Washington on Monday to pay his respects to the late congressman John Lewis (D-Ga.), the civil rights icon who died earlier this month.
Biden’s campaign said late Sunday that the candidate and his wife, Jill Biden, will visit the Capitol, where Lewis will lie in state. For the Bidens, the planned trip will mark a rare public appearance outside their home state of Delaware. Although Biden has begun holding more public events in recent weeks, such stops remain infrequent and intimate because of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The travel comes amid a busy period for the Biden campaign, which on Sunday urged supporters to gear up for the 100-day stretch to the election. The candidate has said he is hoping to choose a running mate by early August…
