His handlers do NOT….
At least not yet….
So far?
Biden is doing fine having Donald Trump run against HIMSELF…..
With President Trump’s poll numbers sliding in traditional battlegrounds as well as conservative-leaning states, and money pouring into Democratic campaigns, Joseph R. Biden Jr. is facing rising pressure to expand his ambitions, compete aggressively in more states and press his party’s advantage down the ballot.
In a series of phone calls, Democratic lawmakers and party officials have lobbied Mr. Biden and his top aides to seize what they believe could be a singular opportunity not only to defeat Mr. Trump but to rout him and discredit what they believe is his dangerous style of racial demagogy.
This election, the officials argue, offers the provocative possibility of a new path to the presidency through fast-changing states like Georgia and Texas, and a chance to install a generation of lawmakers who can cement Democratic control of Congress and help redraw legislative maps following this year’s census.
Mr. Biden’s campaign, though, is so far hewing to a more conservative path. It is focused mostly on a handful of traditional battlegrounds, where it is only now scaling up and naming top aides despite having claimed the nomination in April.
At the moment, Mr. Biden is airing TV ads in just six states, all of which Mr. Trump won four years ago: Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Arizona, North Carolina and Florida. The campaign included perennially close Florida only after some deliberations about whether it was worth the hefty price tag, and when Mr. Trump’s struggles with older populations made it clearly competitive, according to Democrats familiar with their discussions.
The campaign’s reluctance to pursue a more expansive strategy owes in part to the calendar: Mr. Biden’s aides want to see where the race stands closer to November before they broaden their focus and commit to multimillion-dollar investments, aware that no swing states, let alone Republican-leaning states, have actually been locked up.
Yet they are increasingly bumping up against a party emboldened by an extraordinary convergence of events. Mr. Trump’s mishandling of the pandemic, his self-defeating rhetorical eruptions and the soaring liberal enthusiasm — reflected in the sprawling social justice protests and Democrats’ unprecedented Senate fund-raising — have many officeholders convinced they must act boldly.
Public and private polling shows Mr. Trump not only trailing badly in swing states like Michigan and Wisconsin, but running closely with Mr. Biden in traditionally conservative bastions like Kansas and Montana.
“Trump’s abominable presidency, especially in the context of the total failure to confront coronavirus, makes Texas very winnable,” said Representative Filemon Vela, an early Biden supporter. He said he is “getting bombarded” with pleas from Texas Democrats who are similarly convinced the state could turn blue with a substantial commitment….

According to this article, Biden is seriously considering Karen Bass because he doesn’t want someone who might “outshine” him. He apparently wants his VP to be someone who does not have Presidential ambitions of their own.

Otherwise, the national media seems to think Tammy Duckworth is the frontrunner because of her fight with Tucker Carlson.
jamesb says
Susan Rice fits THAT perfectly….
Bass does NOT…..
CG?
ALL SORTS of name are gonna be throw out…
For most?
It’s just a nice way to say thank you…
I Biden picks a person with no national experience ?
He will be making a serious foolish
mistake…
Especially after Trump…
CG says
So you think he should pick someone to be the first woman Vice President with the understanding that she would never try to be the first woman President?
jamesb says
Quite the opposite there CG….
For Biden more so then just about any modern day President?
His choice has a Good chance to succeed him…
A BIG thing most people guessing about this is?
Biden WAS VP for EIGHT YEARS….
Forget all the vetting and suggestions
Joe Biden KNOWS EXACTLY what his choice should be…
I thought Klobuchar was the natural choice
jamesb says
Clyburn HAS said SEVERAL times….
Biden does NOT HAVE To pick a Black female…
jamesb says
Warren i see staying in the Senate
CG says
The article is suggesting (and maybe its all fake news), that he is saying he wants to pick someone who will not get a lot of attention. He wants his victory to be about him and he doesn’t want somebody with Presidential ambitions of their own.
Now, it is true that GWB and Obama and to a lesser extent Trump (Manafort basically picked Pence for Trump and sent out a press release before Trump even knew it) picked someone who they thought did not have Presidential ambitions, but at Biden’s age, it does look a little petty if he is just trying to pick someone to be on the sidelines, a la Karen Bass, who is 66 and says she has no desire to ever run for President, and probably means it.
You seemed to suggest Susan Rice would be good for that line of thinking.
jamesb says
I will continue to think that Joe Biden picking someone with NO experience on the tightrope of Washington is a BAD MISTAKE….
Trump reminds of this EVERYDAY….
His VP is gonna have to help the Sec of State in foreign affairs…. while he takes care of the virus and economy…
His VP is gonna have 2 years to get ready to be able to take over more and MORE. of. i dem’s work load….
I believe a rookie on this level like Trump could be another shit show…
I know u’ll keep talking about a rookie …
CG says
Whomever he picks, you will hail as a brilliant choice, and suggest it is the one you had been suggesting all along.
We all know how you operate.
jamesb says
Well CG?
I picked Biden ….
I got THAT Right….
I picked Hillary against Obama…
I got THAT WRONG…
I did Pick Romney and got that right after the first round….
Of course we ALL got Trump wrong…
My Name Is Jack says
I know that VP speculation is the favorite game right now.
I’m still leery of these relatively unknown names being bandied about.I pointed out a few days ago that these types ,even the successful ones ,rarely turn out well.
However, I would also note that you have to go back to LBJ in 1960 to make a good argument that the VP candidate greatly effected the election.
I don’t see Bidens VP pick having any effect on the election.
It’s still going to be all about Trump.
jamesb says
I agree with Jack that the VP isn’t that important for the ratings and that unknowns will stay unknown…
But I DO think that two thinks ARE important…
1) Biden choice MUST be ready to step up from day ONE…Rookies on the top national scene should NOT be even thought of seriously…
2) Biden WILL need chemistry and comfort in working with choice who should NOT have a separate agenda…
Democratic Socialist Dave says
I think this might be (as it wouldn’t have seemed last February) the year to follow the fifty-state strategy of Howard Dean (and Michael Steele).
I shall count no chickens before hatching, but given the President’s increasingly panicked and self-destructive behavior, it’s not too early to think about a campaign that can not only deny Trump all but a handful of states, but also gain or regain Democratic seats and offices in many states that normally seem hopeless.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
I also think that the G.O.P. might — if thrashed soundly enough — return to Reince Priebus’ original strategy of expanding the Big Tent by seeking out new support among suburbanites, urbanites, youth, women and ethno-religio-linguistic minorities, rather than Sean Trende’s counter-strategy of turning out an ever-dwindling electorate of older white Anglos.
jamesb says
GOP’s doing what U suggest in this comment would mean a COMPLETE disregard for Trumpism…..
This is going to Hogan NOT Cotton…
I just do NOT see THAT….
Hogan and Romney being the leaders of the Grand ole’ Party????????
Zreebs says
A 50 state strategy makes more sense when you have a fundraising advantage. The Dems are not there yet at the presidential level.
jamesb says
I have a $900+M figure for Trump & RNC…
I cannot find a Biden over all figure though Biden seems to out raised Trump in the last few months…
jamesb says
I think you view is ALREADY warming up DSD…
If the Dem’s are talking about Texas, Georgia and North Carolina….
