And some people yearning for the good ole days back with the cops….
The rush to stop police from enforcing ‘quality of life’ issues is gonna be good and bad….
The good for those afraid of the cops is evident….
Less interaction….
For cops?
Less work….
The bad part?
State and local government will have to set up and HIRE (SPEND) more people to do same enforcement action that was done by dual functioning cops….
This people will have low paying jobs to start and they WILL be under pressure to produce numbers and REVENUE.…
Where cops could be called away to handle other things?
These people won’t….
There will also be admin setups that have to be put in place….
Low earners will just pay their fines…
But people who have the resources will hire lawyers to contest the increased fines leveled….
In the time the governments are about to have big holes in their budgets?
Setting up new budget lines and hiring MORE people is gonna be a problem…
Of course politicians say they’ll cut the police budget to set up the new units….
We’ll see if that actually happens….
Gonna be interesting when the noise quiets down in the streets and the people see the increased enforcement come down on them….
Anybody out there like those parking ticket writers more than cops?

This is ,for the most part ,hyperbolic.
jamesb says
Why?
Please elaborate …

I don’t agree with much of any of this.
Indeed most so called “quality of life “issues are already handled by non police personnel with various titles who possess no arrest powers.
Rarely are attorneys involved as the fines levied are relatively small.Indeed most of these type matters are “worked out” and fines are never used.
I certainly don’t see this type argument as having any bearing on reforming police departments.

ok
up in new york metro area
police DO deal with quality of life stuff like the linked piece explains
in Frisco they are going to hire more civilians like de Blasio says here
All THAT is gonna cost money and more people…
So they will be adding new government at a time when cuts are coming…
a lot of this is just pandering…
no money to do it…
also IF they do it though?
the civilians will be driven to produce money streams, like parking tickets…
people should be careful for what they wish for…
all this is gonna make cops do LESS work in the long run…
My Name Is Jack says
I don’t think having police officers not handling minor matters that ,in general ,are of little consequence will have any effect upon much of anything.
Like I originally said…
Much hyperbole from a fertile imagination.
jamesb says
Ok
less work for cops
more cost for taxpayers …
and trying to make money on the vendors and little people…
