New York’s virus numbers are the lowest for the states size in the country….
Florida’s are being counted higher almost everyday ….
Cuomo and others are worried Florida COULD drive all the hard work done in New York out the window….
How the tables have turned.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Thursday that he is “considering” imposing a quarantine on travelers coming to New York from Florida, where coronavirus cases are spiking.
“I have experts who have advised me to do that. I’m considering it now,” Cuomo said during his second to last daily coronavirus press briefing in Manhattan when asked by a reporter about whether he will issue a two-week quarantine on people coming to the Empire State from the Sunshine State.
Florida has recently seen a major uptick in coronavirus cases with more than 2,600 new cases recorded on Wednesday and a record 2,763 cases the day before.
In total, the state has tallied more than 82,000 COVID-19 infections.
“It’s a real concern,” Cuomo said, adding that implementing a quarantine on folks traveling from Florida to New York is “something I’m considering.”
Cuomo also pointed to the irony of the fact that as the coronavirus crisis was mounting in New York back in March, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered that New Yorkers fleeing to Florida would have to self-quarantine for two weeks when they arrived.
“Florida and other states imposed a quarantine on New Yorkers,” Cuomo said. “If you went to Florida you had to quarantine for two weeks because they were afraid of New Yorkers bringing the virus.”…..

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said New York is talking with airlines about instituting temperature checks and gathering tracking information on travelers from eight states with high coronavirus infection rates as part of a quarantine that went into effect Thursday.
“What is our legal authority and how cooperative would the airlines be?” Cuomo asked during a coronavirus conference call with reporters.
New York instituted the quarantine with New Jersey and Connecticut as the number of new cases surges in Florida, Texas and other states while the percentage of New Yorkers testing positive for the virus is at 1.1%, which the governor’s office said Friday afternoon is the lowest of any large state.
The move is an effort to avoid a resurgence of coronavirus cases in the tristate area, he said.
The states covered by the quarantine are Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Utah. The list could change if the data on infections changes, Cuomo said.
The state also is talking with federal authorities “about what they would be willing to do,” he said.
Even though the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey administers the airports, “We have no legal jurisdictional border control,” he said. “That’s all federal.”
On Thursday, Cuomo said the state would do random checks on travelers coming from the eight states, using names gathered when they arrive at New York airports. Those visitors must self-isolate for 14 days or be fined, he said….
