The Supreme Court ruled on Thursday to block the Trump administration from ending an Obama-era program that shields nearly 700,000 young undocumented immigrants from deportation, upending a key feature of President Trump’s immigration agenda. In a fractured decision, the justices said the administration failed to give an adequate justification for terminating the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, as required by federal law.
The ruling keeps intact a program that is open to an estimated 1.3 million non-citizens who are eligible for DACA by virtue of having been brought to the U.S. as children, and who have maintained residency and meet the education or military service requirements and other criteria….

A majority of Trump voters want to protect so-called Dreamers from deportation, according to a new poll, putting pressure on President Donald Trump to shield immigrants who were brought to the country illegally as children.
The same trend holds across all Republicans, according to the findings from the latest POLITICO/Morning Consult poll. In fact, the poll indicates that wide swaths of registered voters support Dreamers regardless of gender, education, income, ethnicity, religion and ideology. That includes 68 percent of Republicans, 71 percent of conservatives and 64 percent of those who approve of the job Trump is doing. Even 69 percent of those who voted for Trump in 2016 — when he vowed to deport Dreamers — say they should be protected…..

Matt Gaetz has adopted a 19 year old very good looking Hispanic boy. What a generous thing for him to do.
Republicans never learn do they.
jamesb says
Ah?
is there more to this story?
CG says
From what I can gather, Gaetz found himself in a position of defensiveness in terms of racial wokeness in regards to African-Americans and suddenly claimed he has a Cuban-American “son.”
It appears that this person has perhaps been a family friend for several years, (going back to when he was well underage) and that maybe Gaetz was sort of a surrogate “big brother” or mentor figure. It seems like a sudden exaggeration now to claim they are “father and son” when such a thing has never been mentioned before.
So, there is much to question here perhaps about Gaetz and political opportunism. Nevertheless, it is a bit vile to suggest that this has to be some sort of sexual relationship without any sort of evidence to suggest that. As mentioned, this now 19 year old has been in photos with the entire Gaetz family going back to when he was 12.
Scott P says
Well Gaetz is pretty vile himself
Scott P says
Guess he’s a “compassionate conservative”—with emphasis on the passionate

Just so he doesn’t perform any marriage ceremonies. That would be the kiss of death for his political career.
Keith says
Vile? You mean like Denny Hastert molesting his wrestlers vile, or Gym Jordan looking the other way while his wrestlers were being molested vile?
The kind of vile that takes advantage of underage men? At least Lady G hires adults.
Gas Mask Gaetz is a strange one. Only thing stranger, those who attempt to defend him.
jamesb says
Lets see how Trump deals with this…
I can see him doubling down AGAINST immigration as a wedge issue looking for support from his base despite the poll numbers in SUPPORT of immigration….
My Name Is Jack says
Meaningless…
It won’t effect his standing among Republicans.
Scott P says
Trump is having a Twitter outrage over the Supreme Court “not liking” him.
Baby

Quote of the Day
“Do you get the impression that the Supreme Court doesn’t like me?”
— President Trump, on Twitter.
Trump Rips Supreme Court Decisions
President Trump condemned “these horrible and politically charged” decisions from the Supreme Court as “shotgun blasts into the face of people that are proud to call themselves Republicans or Conservatives.”
He added: “We need more Justices or we will lose our 2nd Amendment and everything else. Vote Trump 2020!”
jamesb says
He should STFU….
His mouth is probably what lost him Roberts in the first place…
jamesb says
No Jack….
The ruling is NOT meaningless….
It IS clearly the second set back from the court in a short period….
It is a signal that Chief Justice Roberts IS going to NOT be a rubber stamp for Donald Trump….
It is a signal that Republicans hopes to turn the court to the right isn’t working for the most part…
It is a signal that the courts, as they have four the last 3 years HAVE had the balls to counter a run away train wreck President and his toothless Party followers…
It is a signal to the Dreamers that despite all hope?
The Chief Justice of the United States of America became the pivot man to save them from a President scared of immigrants
It is a signal that the courts WILL step in an uphold Congress and past president’s promises….
Jack?
THIS and the previous ruling for gays ARE BIG DEALS…..And have a LOT of meaning
My Name Is Jack says
Sigh…
Once again you don’t understand my point.
I was responding to your comment ,wherein you essentially ask if Trump will bring this back up as a wedge issue ,even though Republicans “supposedly” oppose Trumps position on DACA.
My use of the word “meaningless”was in response that I didn’t think the decision would have any effect on Republicans opinion of Trump which is glaringly obvious by the next line…
“It won’t effect his standing among Republicans.”
No one, least of me, would downplay the significance of the rulings.
You?As usual you “read” into other people’s comments what you want to read ,then launch into one of your patented “obvious” comments.
jamesb says
Ok….
I agree with your clarification…..
CG says
It was very obvious what jack was trying to say.
Regardless, the point is being missed that there are a large number of traditional Republican voters (whether you want to call them current Republicans or former Republicans)… i.e, Bush/ McCain/Romney voters, that are *not* supporting Trump now, which is a big reason why he is in such political peril and also a huge reason why Biden won the nomination over Sanders, both for electability reasons and because those voters thought Sanders, who shares the mindset and rhetoric of “revolution” with Sanders was too extreme.
Also, Scott should continue to caution himself against overconfidence.
Scott P says
I’m not overconfident. I am still donating to Biden, my Biden sign is proudly displayed in my yard and I will be assisting in registering and getting Democratic voters ballots or to the polls this fall. I’m not resting on any laurels.
But I am happy that Biden is leading and appears to be solidifying that lead every day. If the election were held today it’s almost certain that he would win. Things could change but it’s tough to see what is going to change people’s opinions at this point. The unemployment rate going to 11 or 10% isn’t likely to make people think “happy days are here again”. And Trump is almost certainly not going to change who he is in four and a half months.
Keith says
Great Scott!! And, I am helping too. Bundling contributions from wine country through Act Blue to Biden. Folks are happy to donate and I should break my fundraising goal by the end of July.
No yard sign, but a bumper sticker that reads, “Elect a Clown, Expect a Circus.”
Given the virus restrictions I am not sure how the fall will go, but my friends in DC should be spending lots of time in North Carolina.
Scott P says
Good to hear Keith. I don’t get how being enthusiastic and working hard to achieve the goal means we are overconfident.
But I guess when you are voting for no one and you wish that somehow neither candidate will win any positive attitude can appear to be “overconfidence”
jamesb says
I am also pushing that people VOTE….
jamesb says
And I play my part with word of mouth and this place….
I have given twice and will do so again…
