Barack Obama is making his fundraising debut for his former vice president with an online event next week, targeting tens of thousands of small-dollar donors, according to an invitation obtained by Axios.
Why it matters: Obama’s participation with Biden in the live, virtual event on June 23 marks the ramping up of the former president’s engagement to try to defeat President Trump.
Details: In an invitation scheduled to go to supporters Monday evening, Obama is asking potential contributors to donate “any amount you can” for “the most important election of our lifetimes.”
- Rather than directly address the the protests against racial disparities in policing and the coronavirus, Obama asks for “Americans of all backgrounds and political stripes to join together.”
- He tells supporters that voting for Biden is a way to rebuild the economy, expand health insurance coverage and declare that “all of us are equal and each of us should have the chance to make of our lives what we will.”
- Obama endorsed his former vice president in April after Biden won the support of former rival Bernie Sanders. The campaign hasn’t yet said how often Obama is expected to appear in person with Biden or on his behalf.
- The campaign is looking to surpass a virtual event with former candidate Pete Buttigieg, which raised $1 million from approximately 36,000 donors.
Between the lines: The fundraiser is a warning shot for the Trump campaign and a preview of the one-two punch that Team Biden hopes to deliver leading up to the conventions and beyond….

New poll out of Florida has Biden 51%–Trump 40%
In more and more of these state polls Biden is surpassing the 50% mark.
A new TIPP poll in Florida finds Joe Biden leading Donald Trump by 11 points among likely voters, 51% to 40%.

Lets add the latest Michigan poll’s also….
A new EPIC-MRA poll in Michigan finds Joe Biden leading Donald Trump by 16 points, 55% to 39%.
A new TIPP poll finds Biden leading 50% to 37%.
However, Rep Debbie Dingell (D-MI) urged Democrats to be cautious, telling the Detroit News: “Some people say, ‘Oh, look at the numbers.’ I don’t believe these numbers.”

These numbers do appear to be unrealistic.
They would indicate that Trump has essentially totally collapsed,yet more established polls show no indication of that.
However, even assuming their numerical inaccuracy,the simple fact that Trump at least appears to be in a real fight for Florida as this and several other polls have indicated is not a good look for him.
The Florida poll is likely an outlier. Others have been more like Biden ahead by 3-5%.
Michigan polls have been pretty consistently showing Trump behind by low double digits.
It’s likely beyond reach of them now.
Yes, Trump only won Michigan last time by about 10800 votes out of out of about 4.5 million votes cast.
I imagine his campaign already knows ,even if Trump himself doesn’t, that Michigan is likely already lost.
Yeah my guess is Trump’s campaign–with or without Trump’s knowledge–has written Michigan off. So without MI and no blue states tilting red that would leave the GOP nominee with 290 electoral votes. That’s if Trump is still able to hold on to PA and WI. I’d say there is a good chance PA is as lost as MI so that would bring it down to 270 EVs. No room for error.
There is absolutely no evidence that Trump is stronger in any state Clinton won that his campaign earlier insisted they could pick off (New Hampshire, Nevada, Minnesota)

We’re 5 months out….
2016 turned for real in late August going into Sept.
But Trump NEVER had the headwinds he’s encountering now….
He WILL have to REALLY do some heavy lifting that he has shown he is incapable of….
I think the guy thinks he’ll just pull a rabbit out of the hat again, and EVERYBODY HAS that in the back of their minds…
But I don’t think that’s in the cards….
Sure the polls ARE gonna come back down some..
They ALWAYS do…
And the national polls aren’t the important ones…
The state ones ARE…
But?
It just seems like the thing IS off there hook for Donald , who probably could use a rest from hiding out as the President….
