The US Senator from Minnesota was probably Biden’s first choice at one time but as soon as the George Floyd incident hit the media , her being the District Attorney there took her out of the running …
This is probably gonna take Elizabeth Warren out the mix also….
The implied conclusion is that Biden should pick a black or latino woman as his running choice for Vice President…
This could also knock Kampala Harris and Bal Demings out of the lead since they both have law enforcement experience like Klobuchar …
The person more likely to get a serious look could for Obama national security advisor Susan Rice who has no law enforcement or elective office history ….
Which could be good and not so good..
Rice’s son is a strong Trump supporter.
Something like that didn’t hurt James Carville with a ill Clinton and hasn’t hurt Kellyann Conway with Donald Trump…
….,
Sen. Amy Klobuchar late Thursday said she personally called Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden to advise he pick a woman of color as his running mate, effectively announcing the end of her vice presidential aspirations.
“I truly believe, as I actually told the vice president last night when I called him, that I think this is a moment to put a woman of color on that ticket,” the Minnesota Democrat told MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell. “And there is so many incredibly qualified women.”
Klobuchar had long been considered a top contender for Biden’s vice presidential pick, but as protests over police brutality against African Americans erupted across the country following the death of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer, the traditional running mate calculus was altered. Klobuchar’s credentials as a former prosecutor with a tough-on-crime record didn’t sit well as her home state became a locus among protests and calls for structural change in law enforcement.
Two other potential Biden picks, California Sen. Kamala Harris and Florida Rep. Val Demings, also have law enforcement backgrounds. However, both are black women, have more support among African-American leaders and have been more comfortable discussing issues of race, inequality and police brutality.
In adding her name to the growing chorus of voices who think Biden should not pick a white woman, Klobuchar’s announcement was widely viewed by Democratic insiders as a blow to the chances of Massachusetts’ Sen Elizabeth Warren, who is a top consideration for Biden.

I agree that Klobuchar appeared to have been Biden’s first choice. At this point, Lance Bottoms is gaining a higher profile. She would be a voice for moving forward in livable American cities with good schools, good health care, a police department accountable to the community, a green infrastructure. She lacks foreign policy background and that’s where Rice’s strengths reside. I personally think Susan Rice is quite competent, but many in the party would see her as an uninspired choice.
jamesb says
Bottoms is busy right now….
But she seems to be ok for the list….
Lacks nation experience but handling her current situation could help her chances…

Klobuchars withdrawal is anti climactic.
After the events in Minnesota it was fairly obvious she wasn’t going to get the nod(actually I never thought she was).
It’s fairly certain now that nomination will go to a Minority female.
Scott P says
Klobuchar simply wouldn’t add anything to the ticket that wasn’t already there (other than her female gender).
Biden is doing quite well in the swing states of the upper Midwest
like Michigan, Wisconsin, and the Senator’s home state of Minnesota.
Nominating a minority woman will help drive up the urban turnout as well as suburban women who are increasingly turned off by Trump and the Republicans.
As I mentioned earlier, Trump is losing support in rural areas where he won by 30-40 points 4 years ago only winning them by 12 points now. A minority woman as VP might cost him a handful of bigoted votes in those areas, but there are many more positives in doing so.
Right now I have to give the odds to Kamala Harris.
My Name Is Jack says
Yes I would too.
She is ,by far, the best known of the potential minority women whose names are being floated, is articulate, and was impressive in her campaign.
I don’t think the fact that she once served as AG will have any negative effect.
Actually there will likely be a push to get more Minorities into law enforcement in the future.
jamesb says
I’m waiting for the anti- Harris stuff to show up…
We already have anti-Demings stuff dropping in the media….
jamesb says
My Bad….
Anti-Harris stuff already out…..
jamesb says
My VP choice for him remains Susan Rice even if her some is a pro-Trump supporter…
jamesb says
Rice is also in the running to be Biden’s running mate. Pressure has ramped up on the former vice president to put a woman of color on the Democratic 2020 ticket in light of the protests, and his campaign has confirmed that Rice, who served in the Obama administration, is being considered…
More…
My Name Is Jack says
I actually hope Biden Doesnt choose Rice.
She has never even run for anything before.tThe last successful VP candidate ,who had never been involved in a campaign ,was Henry Wallace in 1940 but at least he was nationally known as Secretary of Agriculture ,which was a major post in the Depression.
Rice has served as Ambassador to the UN and National Security Advisor.Neither are high profile positions.I would like to see some polling on how many people even know who she is.Unknown VP candidates haven’t done too well of late, see Sarah Palin ,but even she had been elected to statewide office..
If Rice is known at all it is because of her involvement in the Benghazi affair. Now, do I believe that just a hyped up Republican political hatchet job?Yes I do,but there it is.
All her experience is in foreign affairs. That is not going to be a major issue for a new administration…
In my view, there is nothing at all to even suggest her as a major contender ,unless there is some particular reason Biden just likes her and feels comfortable with her.
I think picking her ,if it happens, will be a mistake.
jamesb says
Good to point out what you have on Rice…But Biden was around for Benghazi also…Hillary was the boss …Not Rice..
But the last part IS usually why VP’s get picked….Rice IS getting vetted..
We’ll see…
But I think the selection committee is running out of choices for their list…
ronnieevan says
I like Harris’s odds too. Just not sure if she has the full ringing support yet of Black leaders.
Scott P says
I’m not sure geographic balancing is as important as it used to be–or if it was ever a major factor
But Susan Rice being essentially a lifelong resident of Washington DC doesn’t exactly help in those regards. Biden commuted to DC from Delaware his whole Senate career.
I don’t really see what Rice brings to the ticket.
My descending order of preference:
Kamala Harris
Val Demings
NM Gov Stephanie Lujan Grisham
My Name Is Jack says
I agree that Rice really brings nothing to the ticket.
Further,as stated above, I think the general reaction to her selection from most people would be,”who is she?”
Harris is still my preference.Shes articulate, even briefly was the frontrunner for the nomination, has been elected a US Senator from the largest state in the country and is an effective critic of Trump.
The negative rap on her is that she was aProsecutor.I think this may be overblown.Anyone who feels that strongly likely is on the extreme Left and is already unlikely to vote for Biden at any rate no matter who the VP candidate is.
Scott P says
I would add extreme extreme left if they are so disappointed by Biden picking a former prosecuter that they will vote third party or stat home.
The Green Party is likely to be well under 1% of rhe total vote this year. Harris as VP might mean they get 0.7% instead of 0.6%. The same disgruntled idealists untethered from reality.
Harris strength with energizing black voters in the cities and among suburban women would more than cancel that out.
jamesb says
It’s not the left that will be unhappy with Harris as a former DA and AG …
It will be some blacks from california and elsewhere….
Of course it could be seen as a double standard against Klobuchar if anyone cares..
jamesb says
Someone did point out that Harris REALLY went after Biden for while in the debates…
That could be a DQ for her…
My Name Is Jack says
Yet you think, with no evidence whatsoever, that they will be “excited” by Rice who few of them have ever heard of?
Scott P says
Yeah I don’t get the logic either.
James seems to be cheerleading.
I have no issue with Rice. While she isn’t my first choice for VP I don’t think she will “hurt” the ticket if picked.
I Just wouldn’t be as helpful as others would.
My Name Is Jack says
Despite what we all hear, there is little evidence VP candidates ever really “hurt” the ticket, certainly not enough to defeat it.
Sarah Palin is trotted out as a contrary example. However, I don’t think McCain would have won no matter who the VP candidate was.
Dan Quayle was panned early on as Bushs running mate in 1988 ,yet Bush won a fairly decisive victory.
In 1968 , the question was,”Spiro who” and while it was close,Nixon prevailed.
So, maybe this is all much ado about nothing really?
jamesb says
You guys know me….
I go with what i like….
I got Biden right…
I think Klobuchar was right until the shit hit the fan
I’m guessing on Rice
She would be a perfect fit for Biden
Worst thing could be that I’m wrong
Won’t be the first or the last..,
jamesb says
He, he, he
No Jack.,..
I agree with ya she isn’t gonna get ANYONE ‘excited’ except herself and her family except for her son…
I think she would the BEST choice for Joe Biden…
Comfort and qualified to operate on the highest levels of government something he SORELY would need starting off the block…
The weakness again is no political running for office…
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Geraldine Ferraro was a former prosecutor who cast herself as street-wise and then claimed that she had been just a titular paper unseeing Secretary of her husband’s shady family business when she signed off on documents.
Any benefit that Mondale thought he might get from nominating the first female major-party Vice-Presidential candidate was rather negated by Ferraro’s inadequacies as an unremarkable product of the regular New York Democratic machine.
But it made little difference as Walter Mondale (DFL) carried only D.C. and his home state, while Ronald Reagan (R-inc.) carried the other 49.
Although I can’t readily think of successful counter-examples, service as a prosecutor should be no absolute bar to national office. In fact, the 1948 GOP ticket carried two governors who had been district attorneys (for Manhattan and for Alameda County, Calif.): Thomas Dewey & Earl Warren.
jamesb says
DSD?
People are in the streets protesting AGAINST
ALL levels of law enforcement …
We’ll see if ole Joe wants to take THAT chance
