President Trump told reporters at the White House Friday that his administration is “looking at” making coronavirus vaccines free to the public.
“We’re looking at that actually,” Trump told reporters before departing for Camp David when asked if he thought vaccines should be free. He did not offer his personal opinion on the matter.
The Trump administration has faced pressure from progressives to ensure the affordability of any eventual vaccine for the coronavirus, which has sickened more than 1.4 million Americans and killed more than 87,000 since the first known case was identified in January.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) pressed top Trump administration health officials during a hearing earlier this week on whether the vaccine would be available to any American regardless of their income.
“The payment of vaccines is not a responsibility of FDA, but I’m glad to take this back to the task force,” Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Stephen Hahn replied. “I share your concern that this needs to be made available to every American.”
Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar during a congressional hearing in February said that the administration hoped to make the vaccine affordable but couldn’t control the cost of it because of the need for investment from the private sector…..

A ‘Free’ vaccine is also good politics for a guy who has bad politics in dealing with the virus…His HHS Sec. had been hedging on cost vs private investors. profits…
Maybe we should wait for even the scintilla of evidence that there is a viable vaccine.

There is no evidence that we are anywhere near a vaccine that works.
There is also increasing evidence that pharmaceutical companies are hyping “treatments “ for the purpose of increasing their stock prices.
Just yesterday a small pharma claimed they had developed an anti body that was “100%”effective against the disease.Their stock price immediately tripled.Further inquiry revealed that their experiments had only been conducted in a test tube and that they had yet to even tried their idea on animals much less humans.
Expect a lot more of this in the months ahead .Despite “hope” that they pan out,greet them with a necessary skeptical eye.
Yup on the making money….
Same with paper goods that are ‘all the suddenly ‘ available with an increase in price…
I fact vaccine trials ARE going on as we speak….
Trump HAS the ability and WILL ok one as soon as HE wants to….
And I’d guess THAT will be BEFORE election day….
The odds of a viable vaccine being available before the Election is about 1 in 10 and that is probably generous .

The U.K. will be the first country to get access to the vaccine should it be successful
Thread on twitter is doubious of such a fast rollout…
But i’d bet every pill or shot available will be snatched up in the UK….
