It’s reported that House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn, D-S.C., did NOT say anything to Biden about this before, But I find it hard to believe that Biden and the Minnesota Senator was NOT given a ‘heads up’ on this….Clynburn almost single Hadley deliver ed the South Carolina Democratic primary , which led to the nomination for Joe Biden….
Klobuchar has been trying to defend her time as the DA in Minnesota against the protests there and the news that that cop who is involved was not charged with crimes after numerous incidents…
Biden says he won’t make his choice known for another two months…
And the call IS up to Biden in the end….
She could also take her name out the VP search also….
Biden could offer her another senior position in his admin….
Biden is under heavy pressure to pick either a Black or Elizabeth Warren for his running partner…
House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn, D-S.C., said Friday that he believes it’s not the right time to choose Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., as apparent Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s running mate in light of the developing events in Minnesota following the death of George Floyd.
While Clyburn acknowledged that Klobuchar “absolutely is qualified” to serve as vice president, he said that the protests that have erupted in her state this week have complicated her chances.
“We’re all victims sometimes of timing and some of us benefit tremendously from timing,” Clyburn said on a call with reporters Friday. “This is very tough timing for Amy Klobuchar, who I respect so much.”
Asked to clarify whether he believes her chances to be chosen are less likely today than they were a few weeks ago, Clyburn said: “That is the implication, yes.”
The senior congressman from South Carolina added that his belief is based on a “gut feeling,” not any personal conversations he has had with Biden or his campaign.
Klobuchar’s record as Hennepin County attorney has come under fire in recent days even though she has not been involved with the police officer who is being accused of killing Floyd. Even so, she has faced increased scrutiny from the African American community in numerous op-eds over the last week that say she should not be chosen as Biden’s vice president because of her lack of prosecuting police misconduct in Minnesota during her tenure….
I think Clyburn has spoken highly of Val Demings to Biden. But, I think Stacey Abrams’s capital is increasing. Maybe her time is in the future, but events have a way of pushing timelines up. In terms of her inexperience, like all self-assured leaders who know their own potential, she has always been preparing for this. She has more foreign policy chops than Pence ever had or even has now. She is in the moment when she speaks and has a book coming out in June called Our Time Is Now: Power, Purpose, and the Fight for a Fair America.
Abrams is NOT gonna be the pick,..
Even Clyburn and other black leaders have said she doesn’t have the experience …
Harris has to be smiling…
But she was a DA and the California AG…
Tough spot for Biden…
I agree that she is a long shot and I’m not even fully convinced myself about her prospects. But her voice could end up being the one that’s heard in all the noise.
I think she gets a job in a Biden admin for sure ….
Kamala Harris joined protesters at Lafayette Park in DC on Friday. As a Howard University graduate, she’s sure to know that Park well as a place of protest.
