Joe Biden has a problem….
Up to a week ago I thought his leading contender for his Vice President pick was Minnesota US Senator Amy Klobuchar….
A Midwesterner, with time in the US Senate and no separate agenda , she would fit Biden’s style and temperament ….
That was then….
Right now?
THAT is a no go….
The progressives have been trying to sell Elizabeth Warren to Biden….
That I still believe is a no go also…
Warren has her own agenda…
It’s far to the left of Biden’s…Too far…
Picking Warren would also cost Democrats a seat the US Senate that they desperately need…
And finally?
Up until now?
The chemistry between the two seems to be off…
Now people put up 3 other black women for the Biden pick , but I don’t think any of them are work….
Kamala Harris was a California DA like Klobuchar and the states Attorney General…Hmmmm?
Rep. Val Demings , was a Florida police chief….
Like Klobuchar ?
Ten seconds after they would be seen as possible picks?
The media IS gonna run stories of situations they had against minorities…
StaceyAbrams is simply not qualified for the job…She has no national political experience ….
Law enforcement credentials once offered an appealing and protective sheen to a handful of the top prospects in contention to be Joe Biden’s potential running mate.
But three of those candidates — Sen. Kamala Harris, Rep. Val Demings and, most notably, Sen. Amy Klobuchar — now find their records under new scrutiny in a presidential race transformed in the wake of national outrage surrounding Monday‘s death of George Floyd under the knee of a white Minneapolis police officer.
So?
Who then if Joe Biden & Co. need to be looking for a black woman to be Joe Biden’s Vice President pick?
How about Susan Rice?
While she lacks political elected experience ?
She has the experience of working in the highest levels of the American government having been President Obama’s National Security advisor and was Obama’s choice for Sec of State once…And it appears that Rep. Clyburn, who has influence with Biden would approve of her as a choice…
Joe Biden’s concern about the national-security impact of the coronavirus has led him to weigh picking the Obama-administration national security adviser Susan Rice as his running mate, according to several people who’ve spoken privately with the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee in recent weeks.
Rice is well known in Washington, but has a much lower national profile than most of the other women being considered, and comes with few conventional political upsides. She isn’t particularly likely to be selected, people inside the campaign say (some who have spoken about her with Biden see her as a more likely pick for secretary of defense or secretary of state), and Rice has told confidants that she knows that.
But the interest Biden has expressed in Rice reflects his concerns that the ongoing economic and public-health crisis the U.S. faces may require him to pick a strong national-security hand as his running mate.
That perceived need for someone with national-security experience is also why Jim Clyburn, the South Carolina congressman and majority whip in the House who made a powerful endorsement of the former vice president, included Rice on the list of suggestions he gave Biden….

Not sure she would help with the enthusiasm measure. Young women 18-44 are moving to Biden in bigger margins. Getting a woman on the ticket that solidifies these numbers is crucial.

Rice would a qualified black womanizer,..
She has her warts like they all do but she was not in law enforcement …
She has worked on a level
above the other choices with the National Command Authority operation…
CG says
She has a son who is a Republican and a Trump supporter.
She would have to disown him and face all kinds of questions about what kind of parent she was to allow that to happen.
CG says
Now, if Biden were to pick Condi Rice, that would be pretty bold!
jamesb says
Condi
THAT ain’t even funny….
He, he, he

RE?
My reason for Biden picking Susan Rice for VP….
– She is apolitical…Hasn’t ever run for office
– She HAS worked at the highest level of the American Govt.
– Biden HAS worked closely with her as the National Security advisor to President Obama
– She was up for the Obama Sec of State job….GOPer’s would not confirm her
– She’s Black
– She has NO involvement with Law enforcement on any level…
– Biden’s gets ALONG with HER….

And there is this hint I believe ….
…Democrats with knowledge of the process said Biden’s search committee has narrowed the choices to as few as six serious contenders after initial interviews. Among the group still in contention: Sens. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Kamala Harris of California, as well as Susan Rice, who served as President Barack Obama’s national security adviser….
…
Rice, who worked closely with Biden during his time as vice president, has emerged as a favorite among some former Obama administration officials and is personally close to the former president. She has never held elected office but has extensive foreign policy experience, including as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. She’s also been an outspoken critic of the Trump administration since leaving the White House and considered running for U.S. Senate in Maine.
Rice has long been a target of Republicans, including for statements she made after the deadly 2012 attacks on Americans in Benghazi, Libya. Republicans have also accused her of spying on Michael Flynn, Trump’s first national security adviser, though records declassified by the Trump administration show no evidence of Rice improperly accessing any information….

Her son is pro-Trump.
“What sort of mother, and an African-American mother at that, could let that happen….”
CG says
Rice’s son is the head of the Stanford College Republicans.
This is their Facebook manifesto:
“Trump is great. Build the wall. Deport criminal illegal immigrants. Guns save lives. There are only two genders. Abortion is murder. Defund sanctuary city San Francisco. Taxation is theft. Affirmative action is racist. White privilege is a lie.”
(For the record, I basically agree with 6 out of the 10 there. I guess that would not be good enough to be a college Republican these days.)
He’s going to stand on a stage with his mother? The family is not estranged. This is not the ’80s anymore when Reagan Republicans were willing to ignore Patti and Ron.
CG says
I am thinking Val Demings might be more of a possibility now because the left has gone way too far with this “defund the police” thing, and he has to find a way to counter that.
jamesb says
Demings was the police chief of the Orlando Police Dept.she had 27 years in law enforcement ….
I doubt she gets the nod now….

Ah CG?
The story is from 2 years ago…
Fund me something recent please?
and…
What about KelleyAnne Conway?
CG says
George Conway will not be Biden’s running-mate.
Although, I wish he would be.

I don’t see Rice or Demings as high profile enough.
Indeed both are really unknown to the general public.Either would invite comparisons to McCains desperation pick of the relatively unknown Sarah Palin.
Kamala Harris remains the safest pick in my view.Shes well known from her presidential run,is articulate ,and possesses the gravitas to step in as President if needed.
Most of all she fulfills the main prerequisite for aVP candidate, first do no harm.
jamesb says
Could be Jack….
But Rice IS the most experienced to actually operate on the VP level technically…
She only lacks running for office experience…
High profile?
She WAS that with Obama
Nobody on the list has her ‘inside’ resume..
Harris HAS law enforcement baggage
So does Demings..
So does Klobuchar ….
My Name Is Jack says
I don’t agree that any connection to law enforcement is necessarily “baggage.”For some maybe.
As for Rice?Having worked in the Obama Administration doesn’t mean that the general public knows her.In my view her recognition factor is probably the lowest for all those being mentioned .
Besides that was four years ago.
Harris is fairly well known as a major presidential candidate this year who at least briefly was a frontrunner and made a good impression for the most part.
Once again though, I would emphasize, the selection of a vp candidate is not going to be the deciding factor in this presidential race.
My Name Is Jack says
Ultimately though .Biden will likely choose whomever he is most comfortable with.
Clinton, GW Bush and Obama did that with Gore, Cheney and Biden respectively, although others were considered “better” candidates by armchair types like all of us.
jamesb says
I agree Jack….
That, in my mind, is Klobuchar or Rice…
jamesb says
Remember ?
People likely to vote Democratic ARE marching around looking to ‘defund’ cops…
Picking a ‘cop’ or DA or even AG probably isn’t a good move right now…
Maybe by August…
But NOT NOW….

— Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and former National Security Adviser Susan Rice enter our list of Joe Biden’s vice presidential contenders.
— Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH) drops off.
— The top names remain the same.

(I am now thinking Susan Rice)

A few things.
Biden does not support “defunding the police”. He wants massive policing reform and there are several good examples including Camden, NJ where crime has dramatically dropped along with complaints against the police.
According to recent polls on Black Lives Matter and police reform the public has shifted greatly on the matter since 2014.
It’s very similar to how quickly the public turned on marriage equality. Maybe even more so.
Karl Rove–who pushed the bigoted anti gay marriage amendments on statewide ballots in 2004– is now advising Trump. If he thinks he can similarly rally suburban voters against police reform and BLM the ship looks like it has already sailed on that one.
