President:
FL-Pres: A St. Pete Poll has Biden up 47-46 on Trump in Florida. Polls in the state remain close, even as Biden has opened up a noticeable lead nationwide in most other polling.
Veepstakes-1: Biden’s hunt for a VP had some interesting turns recently. First up, Nevada Senator Cortez-Masto has taken herself out of the running for Vice President. While not considered a front-runner for the slot, Cortez-Masto was being looked at as a possible pick as one of the few high-profile Latina Democratic politicians in the country. The announcement itself is a bit curious and might raise some questions about if there’s something going on behind the scenes, or perhaps Cortez-Masto just doesn’t want the pressure associated with being thrust into what would probably be the most significant VP slot in US history given Biden’s less than stellar health.
Veepstakes-2: Another potential VP pick for Biden in former D presidential candidate Amy Klobuchar has gotten some unwanted scrutiny over recent events—while serving as Hennepin County Attorney, she decided to not prosecute a misconduct case against Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin, who has become infamous over his role in the death of George Floyd in a video that went viral this week. While the story here is probably unfair to Klobuchar (the case in question appears to be about a far more legitimate use of force than Floyd’s death as the suspect was waving a loaded shotgun at multiple police officers), it does seriously embarrass her at a crucial time and would make picking her extremely awkward for the Biden camp….
