Put all your money on Kamala Harris. (though she will be attacked on the left for having been a prosecutor too.) It’s probably close to a done deal. Biden putting his foot in his mouth a week ago followed by the horrific developments of this week are going to basically leave him no choice but to pick an African-American.
I don’t think the higher ups in the party want any part of Stacy Abrams, and the only other option would be Val Demings, but she was literally a cop.
Klobuchar would probably have netted the most votes overall (not that the pick might even matter that much this time), but with this unrest literally happening in her backyard, and everyone for now very angry at the person who holds the job as County Attorney she once held, it’s probably over for her.
For those rooting for her, it’s probably how I felt when John McCain forgot how many houses he had and people got upset and he couldn’t pick Mitt Romney because he was too rich too, and wound up with Palin.
And I bet Oprah has changed her phone number so Biden can’t reach her…

So, apparently Mr. Floyd was a bouncer at a bar before Covid so he lost his job due to a shutdown, which left him unemployed and desperate, so he was attempting a forgery at a store or might have been under the influence of something, all because Democrat Governors are shutting down bars and nightclubs.

I didn’t say he would pick Sanders or Warren. I think he will pick Harris. Do you lump them all in together? Is there one solitary issue that Biden ran on in 2020 that put him to the right of Harris?
The fact of the matter is that there are a lot of internal pressure on Biden to pick someone to placate a base in the party. If he does not pick an African-American at this point, that would then become the big story and distraction. He said he will pick a woman so he has to do that. I do not know who else might be an option. Harris will be attacked for being a prosecutor, but Val Demings for instance was actually a police officer, and that’s not something that the party would want to be a focus.

After his comment and after Minnesota and after Georgia and after that Central Park thing and all the focus that will be on all of that this summer, if he does not pick a black running-mate, that becomes the entire narrative and completely overshadows any “bounce” he would hope to get.
Whether you believe it or not, there are black Democrats saying that the black vote for Biden will not materialize the way he needs it to if he does not pick a black running mate. The way things run in your party, there will be a lot of very offended people if he does not. Since the fundamentals of the election favor him, he ought to not take any needless risks.

It did give African-American activists in the party a rationale for now applying greater pressure on him to pick a black running mate.

A former police officer might, however, be just the sort of thing to appeals to more conservative voters.

I have also been very impressed with her performance during this crisis, trying to thread the very small eye of the needle connecting public health with economic survival. She has been successful in reassuring Rhode Islanders at her 1 p.m. daily televised briefings at the same time that she’s been quite successful in encouraging everyone to follow the rules as the state slowly tries to navigate through 3 (or 4) phases of Reopening Rhode Island — although a great deal of credit, of course, belongs, of course, to the largely-observant people themselves. On a recent spot-check of retails stores, inspectors found 98% of employees wearing masks and 97% of customers.
Were it not for the need to balance the ticket not only by gender, but also regionally, ethnically, ideologically and stylistically (as well as religiously, since both Biden and Raimondo are observant Roman Catholics), I think Gina Raimondo might make a very good choice for the VP nomination.
On the other hand, I’m not so impressed with Kamala Harris (a fellow Berkeleyan) because her style (which impresses some) is so antagonistic.
VP picks are often antagonistic by design.
There’s going to be no real convention. Probably no debates this cycle. No rallies. Whomever Biden picks will get very little attention and very little coverage and will just have the task of using online resources/social media etc, to rally up the base and raise money, and Harris can probably raise more than anybody else by virtue of being from California.
But she will be expected to be seen in the swing states and be comfortable…

The Democrat VP candidate is probably not going to be seen anywhere besides tv interviews with friendly questioners and internet livestreams.
Then that’s gonna be dumb…
The campaign should be smart enough to target suburban women in the states that had Obama wins, then Trump wins, but now have them NOT happy now…
That’s on Biden himself primarily. He may not have to do much because Trump is unpopular with suburban women.

Cops are just not popular among the young voters that Democrats need. That is just a reality.

Of course I can understand how some people are legitimately angry and frustrated. There is never an excuse for violence or destruction though. Anything along those lines will only serve the purpose of helping Trump. He feeds on these divisions among Americans.
And the worst of the people in these situations are urban professional agitators (many of them white kids who grew up privileged) who joined Antifa or anarchist groups who look for any excuse to engage in mayhem.
