The Republican US Senator in North Carolina* ?
Does Donald Trump know about this?
Where was Attorney General Barr stand on this?
Politically?
This could could cost Republicans a US Senate seat?
Hmmmm?
**Update….
Trump has been annoyed with the GOP Senator Burr for NOT doing his bidding in the Senate Intell Committee…Also…In North Carolina ?…The Governor MUST appoint a replacement of the SAME party as has resigned or needs replacement …So the US Senate set will STAY Republican…Seems like Trump is trying to deep six someone not ‘loyal’…He does play political hardball ….

Federal agents seized a cellphone belonging to Sen. Richard Burr on Wednesday night as part of a Justice Department probe into stock transactions he made ahead of the sharp market downturn sparked by concerns over the coronavirus, a law enforcement official told the Los Angeles Times.

“Just in case you are wondering … under North Carolina law, the Governor’s US Senate appointee must be of the same political party as that of the vacating Senator. “

Yes a Republican would need to be appointed to replace Burr if he resigns or is forced out. Would he have any better standing in the general against the Democrat Cunningham? Who knows.
CG says
Burr is not running for reelection. Tillis is.
Scott P says
Correct. My mistake. I assume a special election would be held in November as well to fill the replacement seat if Burr resigns or is forced from office,
Tillis has been trying to distance himself from his GOP Senate colleague for obvious reasons as that is one of the tightest contests this year already.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) spoke to the FBI and handed over documents last month related to recent stock transactions by her husband that have come under public scrutiny.
“Senator Feinstein was asked some basic questions by law enforcement about her husband’s stock transactions. … She was happy to voluntarily answer those questions to set the record straight and provided additional documents to show she had no involvement in her husband’s transactions,” a spokesman said….
