Rhode Island is the only state conducting enough coronavirus tests right now to safely reopen the economy, according to new guidance from researchers at Harvard University.
The Harvard estimates, published by The New York Times, say states should be administering a minimum of 152 tests a day per 100,000 residents in order to have enough data to detect whether the virus is spreading and who has contracted it.
Rhode Island was conducting an average of 185 tests per 100,000 residents during the week ended April 15, making it the only state that had surpassed the minimum recommended by the experts at Harvard, according to The Times. Massachusetts was well below the threshold, at 92 daily tests per 100,000 people, while the country as a whole was even lower.
Dr. Ashish Jha, director of the Harvard Global Health Institute and incoming dean of Brown University’s School of Public Health, told the newspaper the rate of testing is a key metric “because the fundamental element of keeping our economy open is making sure you’re identifying as many infected people as possible and isolating them.”…
Trump , who hasn’t lifted much of a finger to help the states is ALREADY going after the Governors for their virus actions…
“President Trump on Saturday repeatedly blamed governors for not making full use of coronavirus testing capacity in their states, even as several Democrat and Republican governors said they are facing shortages of critical supplies to conduct tests,” CNN reports.
Said Trump: “They don’t want to use all of the capacity that we’ve created. We have tremendous capacity. They know that. The governors know that. The Democrat governors know that. They’re the ones that are complaining.”…
This just shows how Trump and his minions have lied that all the states are capable of administering enough tests to safely reopen.
It’s a lie ,they know it’s a lie. And they said it anyway.

Flash from Rhode Island: we still want to increase testing to about 3,000 a day, and the state government (including the Department of Health) is only just beginning to plan how and when and in what order businesses can safely reopen.
The current best estimate of when the surge will hit (and plâteau) in Rhode Island is May 3rd, two Sundays from now [but only if every current restriction is maintained and fully observed]. See

Deaths attributed to the virus in Rhode Island have now numbered 150 out of about one million people, a majority of them in nursing homes.
Up to 1/3 of New York’s are also in nursing homes …
