President
Trump $$$: Even as they’re bullish on what the sagging economy means for Joe Biden’s chances, many leading Democrats are worried that President Trump will drown the former Vice President in money. Trump’s hauls, when combined with those of the RNC, have consistently dwarfed Biden’s and the DNC’s hauls. On the flip side, though, Biden only recently became the presumptive nominee. Also, Trump himself proved in 2016 that campaign cash really does have diminishing returns past a certain point.
Trump Strategy: Though he can make it rain campaign cash at the election club, Trump’s poll numbers have been sagging a bit in the last week or so. Republicans seem split on the solution to this; some want to prop up Trump’s image, but the Trump campaign itself wants to attack Biden. The former seems like it would be ineffective and the latter seems like it has bad timing. The media isn’t going to suddenly let positive coverage of Trump gain traction. Attacks against Biden could well work, but there’s no point in leveling them when it’s still early in the general election campaign and Biden is basically hiding from the public.
Trump App: Interestingly, the Trump campaign is trying to get their supporters to stay engaged with the campaign through an app that rewards users for sharing campaign news and getting users to persuade others to download the app. MLM has finally found it’s way into politics….
