This is NOT a surprise….
The American economy IS a free fall…
The media IS running ‘hair on fire’ reports every minute day and night….
People and the World IS scared….
But at some point?
A cratered economy WLL keep going of the tracks and the virus WILL begin to subside…
For Donald Trump?
This isn’t about the virus…
It never is/was…
He is looking out for himself FIRST and formost…
The renewal for his job is coming up in 8 months….
He KNOWS that economy in the toilet will NOT let him beat Joe Biden….
He knows that American simply cannot hold social distancing in some simbilance for the next 8 months…
It will NOT work…
While Trump HAS listened to the scientists for the last month?
His political and economic antenn’s HAVE been tuned top HIS supporters who generally do NOT live the large mostly Democratic metro area’s that seem top have the most ‘hits’ for the virus New York , California and Washington State…
And?
Trump now is reading the New York Governor Cuomo is being talked about ‘President Cuomo’. For Trump?
This has to be the same California Governor Newsom challenging him….
So ?
It comes as no surprise that the media IS reporting that President Trump IS thinking seriously about disregarding Dr Fauci and others with the call for even more drastic social interactions after the initial 15 days social distancing push the CDC requested…He may call for people to go back to work using masks and other means distance and health safety means…
Despite the experts calls for humans to stop doing what they naturally do , which to travel el and socialise ….
Americans HAVE continued to go about their lives….
And NOT just hide themselves away from something they cannot see….
“WE CANNOT LET THE CURE BE WORSE THAN THE PROBLEM ITSELF,” Trump said in a late night tweet. “AT THE END OF THE 15 DAY PERIOD, WE WILL MAKE A DECISION AS TO WHICH WAY WE WANT TO GO!”
The message from Trump comes as the number of coronavirus cases in the United States grows and grows and as New York becomes an epicenter. New York now accounts for an estimated 5 percent of the world’s cases.
Yet the economic calamity emanating from social distancing policies that have closed much of the U.S. economy are also having devastating effects, with some projections of 20 percent or 30 percent unemployment in the second quarter.
Some local leaders have said the restrictions that have closed bars, restaurants, theaters, music clubs and gyms could last for weeks or even months.
But Trump on Monday morning retweeted several accounts that urged the loosening of those restrictions in the name of getting Americans back to work, a sign he may be growing impatient with the dismal economic numbers that could threaten his reelection hopes in the fall….
Note…
This does NOT mean that governors will follow Trump’s leads in their states….
But they WILL be under YUGE pressure from their citizens and Trump to follow suit , narrowing the scope of restrictions ….
Their economic issue will be far more acute since they don’t print money like the federal government does and Trump has control on federal funding to states….

His rural base has little impact from the virus…
Furthermore?
Polling even in Dem states have GOPer;s feeling the whole virus thing IS oversold by the media…
He’s safe in doing what eve he wants with his base…
And a clawback by the economy WOULD help him across the board right now…
The economy is NOT gonna heal itself drastically by the November election….
These things take time…
CG says
older people are his most ardent voters. They are most vulnerable everywhere.
Right now, for obvious reasons, social distancing would be working best at less highly dense areas.
If we give up on that, as some think we should, there will be nowhere to hide for anyone.

Some places WILL continue under restrictions one would hope…

58% of Democrats are “very concerned” about someone in their family becoming seriously ill from the coronavirus outbreak vs. only 24% of Republicans via new Monmouth poll just out.

Those numbers will change when the virus hits rural areas. A lot of Republicans that live in the exurbs or small towns still see this as a big city or coastal concern.

the new thing also appears to be that since it is so bad in Italy and is affecting people on the East Coat that are of Italian heritage, that there is something genetic about Italians that makes it worse for them, (the family of 4 in NJ who died for instance) whereas the German blood is more pure or something and they have less cases there.
I would not even attempt to converse with people claiming such foolishness.

In reply to Scott, whenever this does strike rural, small-town. Farm Belt and Bible Belt America, the results will be devastating when rural and county hospitals are closing and ill-equipped to handle this kind of surge (small as it might seem to a metropolitans).

As for Trump, whatever he might eventually say, against the wishes of the experts in regards to the social distancing policies, the various Governors are not going to go along with it where it is in place.

Governor’s in places with low numbers will be under pressure to lift restrictions…

The places that don’t continue to exercise restrictions.?
Expect a rapid explosion of infections .
The idea that we can relax in the initiation phase of this pandemic is absurd. The reason for this whole thing is to level off the number of infections to begin with.
jamesb says
A high-stakes debate is playing out among key figures in President Trump’s orbit over how quickly to loosen restrictions meant to combat the coronavirus.
A number of people around Trump have pushed for prioritizing the economy and sending people back to work as quickly as possible, particularly in less afflicted areas.
But Trump’s own public health officials and some of his allies on Capitol Hill have warned against risking higher infection rates and deaths for the sake of boosting the economy in the short term.
Sources close to the Trump administration described a “split” in the larger Trump World where some people around the president believe the federal government should ease recommendations on social distancing after the 15-day period while others favor waiting a few more weeks or taking even more dramatic action to stamp out the spread of the virus.
“I think there’s a recognition that there needs to be some sort of medium between listening to the doctors and listening to other experts as well,” the person said. “There really isn’t a perfect answer.”
There were more than 41,500 confirmed coronavirus cases in the U.S. as of Monday afternoon, a large percentage of them concentrated in New York. More than 500 people in the U.S. had died of the disease. The pandemic has resulted in unforeseen businesses closures and massive layoffs across the country….

As usual, he thinks he knows more than the experts, especially when they cast doubt on standard reactionary doctrine or the beliefs and economic interests that he shares with his followers.

Mass. issues stay-at-home advisory, closes non-essential businesses to slow coronavirus
By Martin Finucane, Travis Andersen, Andy Rosen and Matt Stout
[Boston] Globe Staff, Updated March 23, 2020, 57 minutes ago
Facing a surge in both coronavirus cases and related deaths, Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker on Monday ordered the closure of all non-essential businesses in the state, his most sweeping move yet in an effort to curb the spread of the disease.
The order takes effect Tuesday at noon and is effective until April 7 at noon. The Department of Public Health also is issuing a “stay-at-home” advisory, which will be in effect until April 7, Baker said, though Baker stressed he was not seeking to mandate that residents remain in their homes for “days on end.”
“Everyone is advised to stay home and limit all unnecessary activities,” Baker said at a State House news conference. “We’re asking everyone to use their common sense, think about the impact this virus is having on the sick and elderly, and to limit their interactions with other people. This cuts down on the chances this virus has to spread.”
Travel is not barred, but people over the age of 70 or with underlying health conditions are “strongly” advised to stay home and “limit interactions” as much as possible, Baker said.
Baker’s orders Monday also included a ban on gatherings of more than 10 people, further restricting the limit the state had previously set. Baker had initially set the number at 250 people and then later lowered it to 25.
He stressed that essential businesses, including grocery stores, pharmacies, medical facilities, and gas stations, would remain open. Liquor stores, hardware stores, auto repair shops, and pet supply stores can also continue to operate, and restaurants can continue to provide take-out or delivery service, Baker said.
“We will always allow” such essential businesses to stay open, he said.
“I do not believe I can or should order US citizens to keep confined to their homes for days on end. It doesn’t make sense from a public health point of view, and it’s not realistic,” Baker said.“The people of Massachusetts are meeting this challenge exactly the way we would expect — with determination, cool heads, and a selfless sense of community.”
Baker said that while areas such as public parks would remain open for exercise, there should be no touch football games or similar activities that involve close person-to-person contact.
“That spreads the virus,” Baker said. “We’re advising people to use common sense with every step we take.”
Baker emphasized that while buses and trains will continue to operate, “that doesn’t mean we think it’s a good idea to take the train downtown” to visit friends, and that public transit should only be used for essential travel….

In order to save Dr. Fauci, we must destroy him
By Kevin Cullen Boston Globe Columnist,Updated March 23, 2020, 5:25 p.m.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, is a study of calm and competence in the middle of a pandemic. Which makes him an endangered species, working as he does for a boss who is notoriously insecure and made his name shouting “You’re fired!” on a reality TV show.
Dr. Anthony Fauci’s calm, reassuring competence in response to the coronavirus pandemic is placing him at serious risk of hearing the words that made his boss famous: You’re fired.
Dr. Anthony Fauci is a bum.
A quack, a snake oil salesman.
He got his degrees online, not from Holy Cross and Cornell.
He watches Wheel of Fortune but not Jeopardy.
He’s a Yankees fan.
Such character assassination is unsavory but necessary because Fauci’s calm, reassuring competence in response to the coronavirus pandemic is placing him at serious risk of hearing the words that made his boss famous: You’re fired.
President Trump is watching and listening to the same thing we are, i.e., Fauci going to the podium to rebut with facts the latest outbreak of paranoid anxiety or the president’s regularly reckless statements.
Fauci is an oasis of rigor and reason in a barren desert of confusion and fear.
Which, given who he works for, makes him an endangered species.
During the Vietnam War, some US Army officer supposedly suggested that in order to save a village from the Vietcong they had to destroy it.
And so, to save Dr. Fauci, we must destroy him — at least in Trump’s eyes.
Now that might sound crazy, but we’re dealing with a crazy president in crazy circumstances….

I also posted last night a story on Italy…
There is NO shelter in plane like the media says ….
The same limits as we have here…
They are told to go get food , walk their dogs, walk and go to work if they have to….
But do NOT do unnecessary things!
jamesb says
in the end?
i see Trump will lift the national limitations on April 1
He probably will say states can still do their thing …
By April 15 I would think that the major metro area’s will still be limited but most of the country will be trying to go back.
NYC because of its population density IS the countries hot spot…
jamesb says
Trump’s comment’s HAVE created a national push / pull on the virus vs the economy…

People who will need ventilators or other life saving measures will not be able to “adjust,”
The whole point is to not overwhelm the system.
If we decide “well, things should go back to normal”, we are in for far bigger problems.
Nobody is saying the economic shutdown is permanent or will last years or anything close to that.
It does seem necessary though to a large extent if we can admit we need to be on a war footing.
Trump has never found a bankruptcy he didn’t want to declare or a war he didn’t want to surrender in. Now, he seems to be saying he is willing to surrender to a virus.
If he can’t fight on an enemy on Twitter, he is a coward always.

Jack?
I keep hearing stores of how businesses ARE adjusting to how they can go back and make money….
And not look like they are trying to be reckless
CG says
Trump is claiming we will have “suicides by the thousands” if we don’t get “back to normal” after Easter.
It is certainly worth considering the mental health needs of people in our population and it would be helpful if we had a leader who could help anxious, worried people feel better about contributing to a just cause.
Nonetheless, is preventing deliberate “suicides of thousands” worth the deaths of many. many more who will not want to die?
CG says
The rate is increasing faster now in Louisiana than anywhere else.
Florida and Georgia are seeing much higher rates of growth of the virus.
Yes, New York is the epicenter of the problem in the U.S. but it is completely false to suggest this is just a “blue state” or a metro issue.
CG says
Long Island of course is right by NYC. Saying that it’s worse in the city than the suburbs should be no great comfort. Best wishes to all of course, but I wouldn’t want to be in the Tri-State area anytime soon, especially if we surrender and decide that all that matters is “going back to normal.”
My Name Is Jack says
Ok so you agree with Trump.
Just so we all know where you’re coming from.
As I’ve said here many times, you and Trump are very much alike.

So on by far the biggest matter to confront this country in many years.
Your position is much closer to Trump than Joe Biden

As I recall, james was mad at Trump for not doing enough and wanted him to do more. Now, he is mad at him for doing too much and wants him to ease up. If that happens, he will be mad at him for easing up and will want him to do more.
It’s simple Paint by Numbers.
jamesb says
OK….
Let ME speak….
Irregardless of Jack’s views?
I HAVE said from the jump that at SOME point there was going to be a move to rate the economy MORE of a threat then the virus…
That point is now here…
I have also pointed out that I and my family do NOT take the virus lightly and we have sacrificed certain thing we normally would do like others…
THAT does NIT negate the reality that I see and have read about…
Trump is and always will be about one thing…
Donald Trump…
Jack and others maybe mad about my reporting here but personally?
I don’t give a shit….
I have correctly pointed out several times that social distancing works on various levels…
Some people embrace it some do not…
THAT is a reality…
Despite the media hair on fire daily grind?
A good amount of people HAVE TO GO to work everyday…
The concept that governor’s are ordering EVERYONE to stay at home will have EVERYONE do this is ludicrous
I and others have to eat and LIVE….
Trump has been and remains inept…
His handling of this has just reinforced his introspective person…
During the whole thing his position win helping NY, Ca and other states what fuck you …u are own ur own…
But?
On the whole?
Trump’s numbers ARE inching up…
Why?
Because some Americans would follow the guy off a cliff….
And?
Even MORE Americans are scared, but want their lives to return to normal, and Trump is the only one willing to lie to them against the experts that are just saying negative scary things about something g they cannot see…
Weither Jack or anyone, including me likes it?
Trump?
The President IS gonna relax the CDC rules in the next week…
My Governor has been kissing Trump’s ass to get some more supplies for our state…
But Cuomo also?
At some point in next few weeks WILL have to follow Trump’s lead and isolated the worst virus area’s and move cut back restrictions in others…
I worry like everyone else…
But the reality IS the economy MUST continue for the greater good of America
There is NO real choice against this…
Trump could be foolish….
Or?
He could be in the process of pulling a cab bit out the hat using his guy, not his pee brain…
He’s the boss…
Democrats lost the election…
I hope they don’t fuck up again this November…
CG says
Yes, *some* people have to go to work. Doctors and nurses for instance.
However, many do not, I do not know why james though wants so many more to. The economy can survive a tough, limited hit. Nobody is saying this will be a permanent issue. Rushing to end a strategy just because it feels difficult at the moment is foolish though and could result in a far worse result.
james, we all want you to stay well of course. Considering your age and the fact that you live in the NYC area, you ought to stay in your home for every possible minute, as difficult as it may be, and expect to probably for a couple months. You have tv, internet, telephone, all sorts of things to make the time go as smoothly as possible.
jamesb says
He, he, he…..

I don’t live in NYC….
And I go out everyday and walk for my health with my wife and wipe and practice social distancing…

The population density on LI has NOTHING to do with the city….
Our numbers are more like a average suburb even if a good many people do work in the city…
CG says
Getting some air or going to the store for necessities is one thing, buy you personally seem a bit cavalier about the risks and yes, it’s greater for someone living on Long Island than about 90 percent of the rest of the country.

The people who live in the City are going to Long Island now thinking they can get some distance and they are bringing it with them. Stay in the house!
jamesb says
That doesn’t apply to me….
I home from my job which is closed and I work here on the island…
CG?
As I have pointed out?
It IS impossible to do certain things…
But we CAN all try….
CG says
You aren’t even in the rich, fancy section of Long Island further out..
(no offense)
Stay in as much as possible! Watch old Joe Biden speeches for fun.
jamesb says

I have no idea what your job is nor do I need to know, but assumption has been that you are at least semi-retired. If you can stay home, you should consider the positives of that right now.
If you are losing paychecks because of this and eligible for unemployment, than that should be there, plus direct cash payments as has been proposed.
CG says
then don’t risk it by thinking you might be immune to the virus.

Good God even Liz Cheney thinks easing up on social distancing in the next week or so is a terrible idea.
My Name Is Jack says
As does Joe Biden.
What say you about that James?
Scott P says
Biden’s “shadow” responses to Trump’s daily ego and hate rallies have been great. So much more Presidential than our current Oval Office occupant.
But CG thinks Biden’s speeches lack production value and therefore he will continue to throw his vote away in the most consequential election of our lifetimes.
CG says
To be fair, I am not seeing Biden’s responses, but online they are getting panned.
Voting against people is never throwing one’s vote away. It’s voting against a bad result.
Scott P says
Where “online” are they being “panned”?
CG says
Besides on the right, I saw something in the Washington Post or whatnot about how Biden keeps mangling his words and touching his face the past two days.
Again, I have not seen them myself the past two days.
Scott P says
You could always Google Biden’s speeches and draw your own conclusions. I know you won’t though so keep advocating your Unicorn candidate and pretending that sitting out a literal life or death election makes you special.
It doesn’t.
CG says
Both Trump and Biden are both fine with the loss of a lot of innocent life, so there’s nothing I can do with a single vote in a very blue state to change that.
I don’t consider it throwing my vote away and I don’t need anyone to agree or disagree with my decision. It’s about my own conscience.
Scott P says
So it comes down to abortion. But you would have voted for Bloomberg. You know he was in favor of a woman’s right to control her body just like Biden is right?
CG says
The deal breaker for me is the Hyde Amendment and the stated desire to force taxpayers to pay for abortions for the first time ever. And of course, Biden was forced into that position, so it’s a sign of moral weakness from him.
I care about all innocent Life, from that in the womb to that on a ventilator. Whatever you want to say about me, you cannot say I am not consistent.
CG says
The same “control your own body” argument will of course be used by those who do not want to abide by social distancing during these trying times.
Their body. Their choice. The others are on their own.
Scott P says
Stupid analogy
CG says
Always an illogical argument to begin with,
Bodies are and always have been controlled for many reasons in order to prevent death or harm.
Scott P says
If a woman wants to end a pregnancy it has NO effect on you or your parents or grandparents. None. Of. Your. Business.
CG says
Neither would a homicide.
However, it has a definite, permanent, irrevocable effect on what many consider to be a human life.
Just admit it. You think the comfort of some lives is worth more than what is or would be the existence of others, Own up to it. It’s the same principle basically stated by the Lt. Governor of TX.
Scott P says
No I’m not playing your stupid game. My position on abortion is the same one Barbara Bush had. You’d never dream of saying her view of life was similar to the My. Gov of TX wanting to sacrifice our parents for the stock market.
My Name Is Jack says
