Joe Biden appeals for healing among Democrats….
Addressing a small group of supporters and the press at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, Biden struck a note of unity and made a direct appeal to Sanders supporters.
“I want to thank Bernie Sanders and his supporters for their tireless energy and their passion,” Biden said, with his wife, Jill, standing by his side. “We share a common goal, and together, we’ll defeat Donald Trump.”
Biden pointed to his campaign’s remarkable comeback after South Carolina, noting that many pundits had declared his campaign was dead last month — but “now, we’re very much alive.” He said he expects his campaign to “do well from this point,” although he noted that he takes “nothing for granted.”
“We want to earn every single vote in every single state,” Biden said. In an appeal to Democrats who have supported Sanders and other candidates, he added: “We need you, we want you, and there’s a place in our campaign for each of you.”
Biden also took aim at Trump, slamming his leadership during the unfolding coronavirus crisis. He cast himself as the candidate who will restore presidential leadership at a time of fear and uncertainty for the country.
“Tonight we are a step closer to restoring decency, dignity and honor to the White House,” Biden said. “At this moment, there’s so much fear in the country. There’s so much fear across the world. We need presidential leadership that’s honest, trustworthy, truthful and steady.”…
