The Working Families Party, a major left-wing group that supported Sen. Elizabeth Warren for president, is throwing its weight behind Sen. Bernie Sanders.
Progressives hope the eleventh-hour endorsement, which comes days after Warren dropped out of the race, will help unite the left wing of the Democratic Party.
But Sanders faces serious headwinds as former Vice President Joe Biden surges in the polls and racks up endorsements from former presidential candidates and other top elected Democrats. Warren herself has yet to issue an endorsement amid tensions between her, Sanders and their supporters that have escalated for months.
Maurice Mitchell, the national director of the Working Families Party, said his group will hold a call at 8 p.m. Monday with former Warren supporters to try to persuade them to switch their vote to Sanders. It will feature elected officials who had been with Warren but are now planning to cast a ballot for Sanders….

Should the Working Families Party — which can cross-endorse with Democrats in NY state & S.C. — not put Biden (should Biden win the national Dem. nomination) on its own ballot-line, that could weaken Biden in New York state, esp. in greater New York City, if unhappy Sanders & Warren voters were inclined not to vote for Biden.
