Wether the media ore others like it?
Up to NOW?
NO Democrat or OTHER has become the Democratic parties nominee without getting the parties Black voters support…
Since the 1990’s…
It simply does NOT work that way…
Today’s South Carolina primary maybe just reminder of such…
Joe Biden owns most of it…
In 2008 and 2016, black voters in South Carolina’s presidential primary set the last two Democratic nominees on their way, backing Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton by huge margins. Rival candidates never managed to catch up in the race for delegates to clinch the nomination.
On Saturday, black Democrats are set to play a far different role in the state’s primary vote, coming to the aid of a candidate who is struggling, former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. At the same time, it is unclear if that support will be enough to help him win in other states. Black voters are likely to split, perhaps sharply, along generational and ideological lines, and spread their votes across contenders, rather than coalesce once again behind a single candidate.
More broadly, in interviews with African-Americans across the state this past week, many said they were eager to send a message to the national Democratic Party: that their views on electability — which candidate is best suited to beat President Trump — would not be shaped by outcomes in the predominantly white states Iowa and New Hampshire, which backed former Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Senator Bernie Sanders in contests earlier in February…
…
“Black voters know white voters better than white voters know themselves,” Mr. Richardson said. “So yeah, we’ll back Biden, because we know who white America will vote for in the general election in a way they may not tell a pollster or the media.”
Among the most important results in South Carolina is the margin of victory in different parts of the state, which will help determine the awarding of delegates; Mr. Sanders currently leads in delegates, followed by Mr. Buttigieg, Mr. Biden and Ms. Warren.
The outcome for Mr. Biden will also determine if he can argue that he has a “firewall” of black support in the highly competitive race; a victory would also help him make his case in other racially diverse primaries, including the big ones in North Carolina and Virginia on Tuesday.
One major factor in the race that won’t be settled in South Carolina is the electoral might of Mr. Bloomberg, who is not competing in the state but will be on the primary ballots on Super Tuesday…

Massachusetts Rep. Joe Kennedy (D) holds a six-point lead over longtime incumbent Sen. Ed Markey (D) in the Bay State’s Democratic Senate primary, according to a Suffolk University/WBZ/Boston Globe survey released on Sunday.
Forty-two percent of voters said they supported Kennedy, while 36 percent backed Markey in the poll, which has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.
Around 28 percent of voters said they were “undecided” on if they believed Markey should be reelected, while 19 percent said they were “undecided” on the senator’s job performance…

Bill Kristol Endorses Joe Biden for President
Bill Kristol: “Though the situation is complex, the answer actually is simple. Whatever the substantive case for either Amy Klobuchar and Elizabeth Warren, and despite the flashes of electoral strength each has shown, neither is going to be the nominee. And despite what once seemed a possible, though unconventional, path to the nomination, it’s not going to be Mike Bloomberg either. So it’s Bernie Sanders or Joe Biden. Which means, if you’re inclined toward American constitutional democracy, the rule of law, and a free economic order–as well as a liberal world order anchored by the United States–it’s Joe Biden.”….

I’m naive but not naive enough to believe all these Biden endorsements weren’t wired— some before SC, some after—but organized for maximum impact on #SuperTuesday Eve (a semiofficial holiday in 14 states and American Samoa. #AmyKlobuchar #Pete #HarryReid and a bunch more.
CG says
Yeah, Harry Reid is going to put Biden over the top.
Why didn’t Reid endorse Biden in Nevada when it might have actually mattered?
It should be noted that Reid, the two Senators, and the Governor of Nevada all did not take part in their state’s caucus and forfeited their “voice” in deciding who should be nominated beyond perhaps sending in an early vote for “Uncommitted.”
Scott P says
I’m guessing Reid was legitimately undecided at that time. It happens.
CG says
All these new endorsements would be more honest if they just led with “Not Bernie.”
CG says
I read a recent interview with Harry Reid, who of course has a serious instance of cancer.
He said that he sent a personal letter to Mitt Romney after the impeachment vote to say that he was proud of him. I wonder if he also felt it appropriate to apologize for some other things.
Reid also retracted many of the things he said about George W. Bush, during the time he was President, and was fairly complimentary towards him, as a comparison to Trump.
I hope he is at peace in the time he has left and wish him well, but I still believe that sleazy politicians like Reid helped pave the path for Trump.
My Name Is Jack says
The Republican Party is responsible for Donald Trump.
They nominated him.
And it was mostly their votes that elected him.
It’s a party you will return to active membership in as soon as Trump is gone.
My Name Is Jack says
I wonder how many Republicans will “apologize” to the country for Trump?
Not many would be my guess.
CG says
Things don’t happen in a vacuum.
Trump is a political problem to those that dislike him, but beyond that he is a societal problem.
You keep bringing up what I will do in the future. I do not know. My hope is that Trump loses, and the party will seek to change because of that for the future and I can be a part of that, to whatever extent possible.
What I can infer is that whether the GOP changes away from Trump or not, you will be ok with voting for MAGA hat wearing right-wingers for state or local office as long as you think they are better qualified than the lower-tier candidates produced by the party you claim to have walked away from.
CG says
A lot of Republicans ought to apologize for Trump.
My sense is many had the teary-eyed mea culpas already written up before the last election, but then he actually won…
Scott P says
Yeah Harry Reid is responsible for the rise of Trump
Not Rush Limbaugh
Not FOX News
Not Lee Atwater
Not Karl Rove
Gimme a break
Scott P says
The Dow Jones is up a little over 800 points today
The markets must like the idea of Joe Biden as a possible President huh?
I mean if Sanders was the cause of last week’s drop…
CG says
Lee Atwater was dead long before Trump and I cannot see the Karl Rove tie-in at all. The Republican Party Karl Rove tried to build is diametrically opposed to what Trump appealed to.
Rush Limbaugh and *some* voices on Fox News, yes. You can also add MSNBC to the list. Morning Joe and it’s now anti-Trump woke co-hosts used to give him free reign as a candidate.
Harry Reid also plays a part though by normalizing nasty personal insults in place of trying to simply disagree on an idea as well as the very well-known incident in which he deliberately invented a story, in which a politician on the other side was accused of a crime, simply for political benefit. And then after the fact, he said he was glad he did it.
Trump was also once a top Reid-funder, so the circle is complete.
Scott P says
Oh and how could I forget Sarah Palin in that run down of Republican pre-cursors to Trump?
My Name Is Jack says
Is there anyone on the national political scene you approve of?
Scott P says
Rove’s Swift Boating was definitely Trumpian.
CG says
The way the left treated Sarah Palin, including constant references to her looks or claims that was “slutty” somehow also helped normalize the Age of Trump and its misogynistic effects.
So did the proliferation of social media and online political blogs in general.
CG says
I don’t know what Rove had to do with “Swift Boating” (was pretty much an independent expenditure) or that there were not credible things said about John Kerry and the fact that he had denounced his military experience and all that he rightfully earned from his service, only to reverse course completely as a Presidential candidate.
The people who served with Kerry had the right to speak their minds, pro and con.
CG says
I approve most of Mitt Romney even when others here were calling him a “scumbag’ and saying they had no doubt he would fold on matters just to please Trump.
There are also of course Governors who are effective in their jobs who stay out of the national swamp.
Scott P says
Yes because Republicans never mocked Hillary Clinton for her looks
My Name Is Jack says
The Republican Party normalized Donald Trump and continues to .
CG says
I never mocked Hillary’s looks. As I said, there are people in both parties who helped lay the groundwork for Trump and the times we live in.
If I can admit it about Republicans, it shouldn’t be too hard for you guys to do it about Democrats, but you seem trained to never admit an iota of fault about your tribe.
My Name Is Jack says
So essentially except for a solitary US Senator you have no use for anyone else on the national political scene?
Maybe you should find another outlet.
You’re sort of like a baseball fan who dislikes every player except a utility outfielder with a minor league club.
You love national politics just oppose everyone in it?
Ok.
CG says
The Democrat Party normalizes Al Sharpton and continues to do so. All the contenders had to bow down to him last week in your state.
I know, I know, Trump was nominated, he was not.
But if Sharpton had been nominated, the overwhelming majority of Democrats would have voted for him against a conservative Republican.
I bet jack will deny he would do so, but there is no doubt that Scott (and others here) would vote for Sharpton over Trump without a second of reflection,
(and no, I would not vote for Trump over Sharpton)
CG says
It’s hard to switch “outlets” after being so invested for so many years. But can’t the same be said about you since you left your party?
I still care deeply about the country though. It’s hard to change that, and I enjoy the competition aspect of politics and the unpredictability of campaigns.
I am also a baseball fan who saw my team win the World Series in 2016, which kind of takes away some of the intense desperation I felt before. Now, unless something changes, the team’s games will not even be available on my television.
CG says
And even if I “oppose nearly everyone in it”, what is wrong with hoping to find the right people in the system in the future. I choose to be optimistic.
I mean, you just may not understand my perspective of these things. Some of us grow up in a tradition without XMas as a religious holiday, where we are vastly aware of how deep in the minority we are, especially during that time of the year, but yet we seem to manage to deal with it ok.
CG says
Speaking of politicians I admire, I just finished the biography of Jack Kemp, written a few years ago (right before Trump) by Mort Kondracke and Fred Barnes.
Parts of it were a bit too policy oriented and dry but there was a lot of interesting things to learn. Kemp of course comes across as very principled person who genuinely cared about the poor, racial minorities, etc.
They also showed how he was perhaps too trusting in the nature of people and how he himself was pretty disorganized and undisciplined as a public official and how those faults held back his ambitions and might not have served him well had he actually become President.
I guess I might have also forgotten that he was to some extent publicly opposed to the U.S. war in Iraq when it began and was even more critical of it in private.
It’s hard to believe he has been dead for almost 11 years now.
My Name Is Jack says
If anyone reading your daily posts here would consider you an “optimist?”
I would be astounded.
Indeed you are the soul of pessimism .
And what anything you post here has to do with “finding right people for the future” escapes me.

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) said that he misspoke when he said that two justices appointed by President Trump to the Supreme Court would “pay the price” for a vote against abortion rights, the Washington Post reports.
Said Schumer: “I should not have used the words I used yesterday. They didn’t come out the way I intended them to. I’m from Brooklyn. We speak in strong language. I shouldn’t have used the words I did, but in no way was I making a threat.”

A federal judge on Thursday strongly criticized Attorney General William Barr’s disclosure of the Mueller report last year, calling early statements about special counsel Robert Mueller’s conclusions “misleading.”
In an order in a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit seeking access to the unredacted report, U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton said Barr’s action caused him “to seriously question whether Attorney General Barr made a calculated attempt to influence public discourse about the Mueller report in favor of President Trump.”
Walton focused on Barr’s initial statement — before the report was released in full — that Mueller’s team did not find that anyone in the Trump campaign conspired with Russian efforts to meddle in the 2016 election. The judge said Barr left out the fact that the report identified contacts between members of the Trump campaign and people connected with the Russian government.
