Donald Trump continues to live in an Alternate Universe….
And has been of little help during the virus crisis and doesn’t plan on changing that…
President Trump told a group of governors Monday morning that they should not wait for the federal government to fill the growing demand for respirators needed to help people diagnosed with coronavirus.
“Respirators, ventilators, all of the equipment — try getting it yourselves,” Mr. Trump told the governors during the conference call, a recording of which was shared with The New York Times.
“We will be backing you, but try getting it yourselves. Point of sales, much better, much more direct if you can get it yourself.”
The suggestion surprised some of the governors, who have been scrambling to contain the outbreak and are increasingly looking to the federal government for help with equipment, personnel and financial aid.
Gov. Jay Inslee of Washington, whose state is at the center of the domestic outbreak, and Michelle Lujan Grisham of New Mexico both reacted angrily to the administration’s slow response to the crisis.
“If one state doesn’t get the resources and materials they need, the entire nation continues to be at risk,” said Ms. Lujan Grisham.
Mr. Trump used much of the call to repeat the same upbeat rhetoric he has offered in public, assuring the governors: “We’re going to get it remedied and hopefully very quickly.”
Alluding to the Federal Reserve’s emergency intervention, Mr. Trump also told the governors that the central bank’s purchase of $500 billion of Treasury bonds and $200 billion of mortgage-backed securities will “probably go up substantially from that level.”
Without directly faulting former President Obama, he said “we broke down a system that was broken, very badly broken” and vowed to create one “that I think is going to be the talk of the world.”
But aside from his rose-colored predictions — which are at odds with his medical advisers, who say the worst is yet to come — Mr. Trump often evinced little awareness of the severity of the contagion….

Trump now want’s no more than 10 people groups…
Probably figure if u starve it will kill the virus
jamesb says
I’m NOT dismissing the seriousness of the situation…
But 10 is just utterly ridiculous ….
They gonna stop the busses , trains etc?
At some point?
Like in the Spring Break ?
People just HAVE to DO things….
jamesb says
Again?
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that six Bay Area counties are expected to announce a “shelter in place” order for all residents on Monday, directing everyone to stay inside their homes and away from others as much as possible for the next three weeks as public health officials desperately try to curb the rapid spread of coronavirus across the region…
Yet….
Amazon plans to hire an additional 100,000 employees in the U.S., as people are turning to online deliveries at a breakneck pace to help contain the spread of the new coronavirus, the Wall Street Journal reports…

My Name Is Jack says
Here’s something for you to do?..
Read a book and maybe learn something.
Hell Trump is more “serious” than you!
And save us from yout pop psychological garbage,” People gotta do something” routine.
jamesb says
Hey Jack?
I post here when I’m NOT out foraging for stuff….
You have toilet paper around ur way ?
CG says
james, you seem to want to alternate between blaming Trump and his Administration for not doing enough to deal with this to now doing too much to deal with this. Pick a lane. Nobody here likes Trump, but there needs to be some consistency at least. Hopefully, they are getting it at least somewhat right. If during a crisis, the overall motivation is just to point fingers towards an upcoming election, that’s not going to serve anyone well.
Eventually, probably not too long from now, history will make judgment on how America and the world dealt with this crisis. Either we will learn we did nowhere near enough or that we did it too slowly or that we freaked out more than was needed and took steps that proved to be an overreaction. It’s better the latter than the former. We will almost certainly get parts of this wrong, but better to err on the side of caution.
I also hope that was as a society remember, that whenever this eventually ends, even if it is several months from now, and we are all feeling great about surviving, we remember that the danger to our nation from terrorists will not be over. That is likely to not run its course anytime soon and we have to be right about stopping them every time.
Scott P says
What does terrorism have to do with any of this?
CG says
Just another issue we are dealing with that always has the potential to be far more deadly and destructive, especially if it ever involves a chemical or biological agent.
Also, we are hearing that HHS was just hacked amid all this.
Scott P says
OK. We’ve lived with it all our lives. Much more so after 9-11.
This is affecting our lives much more than that terrible day and the days after I am afraid.
jamesb says
Shit?
Domestic terrorism is times worst that people coming here to do harm…
No wall or ban has stopped THAT!
CG says
Is it? What example of domestic terrorism cost anywhere near the number of lives lost on 9/11?
And many would love to inflict damage far worse than 9/11.
If we as a society are rightfully concerned now about the number of hospital beds and what might happen in a worse case scenario due to a virus, we need to also be better prepared what will happen if a dirty bomb gets detonated on the subway for instance.

CG?
Trump didn’t make the virus….
But as President he IS supposed to show leadership in a crisis situation that affects the country and the world…
The guy has NOT…
First he lied about the situation boasting that he knew more than the expert’s…
Then it was pointed out that people under his leadership cut the very group that is supposed to deal with a situation like this…
Trump’s answer?
It wasn’t me…
Trump delighted Mike pence to run the show while he went out and golfed and hung out at his Florida property where he would have several people infected breath on him and others
Trump was asked to provide seed money to deal with the developing crisis …
People under his name offered $2.5B?
Congress approved $8.5B and made him eat it…
The best one was Dr. Anthony Fauci the disease ‘expert’ that Trump has had defer to IN PUBLIC…
THAT very seldom happens and Fauci even has gotten away with correcting Trump in front of camera’s!
Moving to fast or slow?
Bull Shit…
Donald J. Trump remains inept at his job…
This whole thing just ads to the list of reasons….
Trump I hear has patted himself on the back for todays 10 person social distance comment…
Fauci the expert said 50…
Did Trump just make this shit up?
And HTF will that work?
Just 10 people can ride a bus, train airplane?
10 people in the supermarket?
10 people in the White House?
The virus WILL subside in a month or two…
Fauci wanted 2 weeks originally …
Other Asian countries numbers have naturally dropped and people are starting to go back to work and with normalcy….
Europe and the Middle East are still a mess…
The problem that Donald Trump KNOWS is waiting for him is the economy…
The country has dropped into a recession already…
With all this no work throw downs?
The economy IS stalling and will NOT come back anytime as fast the population from the virus…
THAT IS what Trump and Republicans need to worry about….
CG says
We already know about the faulty ways Trump has handled this publicly.
No, this is not going to “go away” in a month or two. If he was too lax earlier, you cannot criticize the Administration for taking drastic measures or recommendations now. Of course, the way the government works, most of this will come from Governors. It will be a long time before restaurants in Illinois are allowed to re-open for instance.
There will be steps the government will need to take to try to mitigate the short-term financial damage. What Mitt Romney is suggesting (and he has a variety of specific proposals) during a *crisis*, makes sense.
jamesb says
A large amount of the public WILL experience the virus…
Fauci and most experts DO say the virus will peak within the next few weeks and gradually subside just like in the Asian country tries…
But leave it to Trump to say the situation will go on an d say things could last thru the Summer in which case the country and the world would have cease to exist as we know it…
Again?
As the linked piece says….
Trump doesn’t listen to experts….
He freelances
Another 10 to 15 days are critical…
Then things should break…
Fauci AGAIN corrects Trump’s freelancing..
…
…Trump announced the new guidelines during a press briefing Monday afternoon. Officials recommended that for the next 15 days Americans avoid gatherings of more than 10 people; avoid discretionary travel; avoid eating in bars, restaurants and food courts; and work or engage in schooling from home when possible…
…
Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, clarified after Trump’s remarks that the guidelines would not necessarily last until the summer months but rather that timeline was one potential trajectory of the coronavirus outbreak.
“The guidelines are a 15 day trial guideline to be reconsidering,” Fauci said. “It isn’t that these guidelines are going to be in effect until July. What the president was saying is that the trajectory of the outbreak may go until then.”…
More..
jamesb says
Fauci also admits he’s going a little overboard on this knowing full well that NOT EVERYBODY is going to follow his recommendation’s which are very limiting…
Fauci urged American citizens to take the new guidelines seriously even if they seemed to go “too far.”
The Hill….
CG says
No, a large amount of the public *won’t* if we follow what we are being told to do to avoid it. That’s sort of the point.
As for Trump, let’s just consider it progress that he has now stopped trying to say this is handled or totally under control, etc. The experts are making the recommendations. People should listen to Trump personally at their own peril. But better he think this is worse than it is than better.
jamesb says
Agreed on the Trump freelancing….
Scott P says
The problem is no one knows what the hell Trump is saying. That’s why the market has no confidence in his “leadership”–and neither does the public.
