In contrast, Romney’s approval rating has surged among Democrats and Democratic leaners. It’s at 56 percent — more than twice his approval among his party’s base.
The situation is a more-pronounced version of what happened to the late senator John McCain (R-Ariz.). After he voted against the Republican replacement for Obamacare, effectively killing the legislation, his approval dropped among Republicans and rose among Democrats….

That would be the sort of flip reversal analogous to liberal Democrats’ attitude to President Ford granting a plenary, permanent pardon to ex-President Nixon.
I was among many who were appalled at the time (1974), but over time I saw what a wise decision that had been. So did one of the Kennedys’ institutions, who gave Gerald Ford an award.
When he died, everyone — except some very hard-core anti-GOP partisans and crazy proto-Trumpolaters — was sad.
I just know that when Mitt Romney was asked to stay away from C-PAC because it might not be safe, they were correct.
