Dr. Anthony Fauci on Tuesday said President Trump’s stated timeline of lifting of restrictions on parts of the country by Easter Sunday should be “flexible.”
Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a prominent member of the White House’s coronavirus task force, added it is important for public health officials to gauge how widespread coronavirus is in parts of the country that haven’t reported significant numbers of cases.
“That’s really very flexible,” Fauci told reporters at the White House when asked about the president’s timeline, which he floated earlier Tuesday during a Fox News virtual town hall on the coronavirus pandemic.
“You can look at a date but you’ve got to be very flexible and on a literally day-by-day and week-by-week basis. You need to evaluate the feasibility of what you’re trying to do.”
Fauci suggested regions with fewer cases may be able to ease guidelines urging people to avoid gatherings of more than 10 people and stay away from bars and restaurants before harder-hit areas. But he cautioned officials don’t have enough data to determine where those regions are.
Aggressive testing and subsequent isolation of individuals who are found to have the coronavirus can help keep the disease from spreading to parts of the country that have yet to see an outbreak, Fauci said.
He acknowledged lifting restrictions does not make sense in an area like New York City, which has emerged as the epicenter of the pandemic in the U.S. with hundreds of new cases each day. The New York metro area currently accounts for 60 percent of new COVID-19 cases domestically.
“You may not want to essentially treat it as just one force for the entire country, but look at flexibility in different areas,” Fauci said. “So I think people might get the misinterpretation you’re just going to lift everything up…
Trump admin is also moving to stigmatise anyone living in or traveling outside of the New York City area….
The Trump administration is advising that individuals leaving New York self-quarantine for 14 days to avoid spreading the coronavirus to other parts of the country.
Dr. Deborah Birx, a member of the White House’s coronavirus task force, made the recommendation during a press conference as cases in New York continue to increase rapidly. “Everybody who was in New York should be self-quarantining for the next 14 days to ensure that the virus doesn’t spread to others, no matter where they have gone, whether it’s Florida, North Carolina or out to … Long Island,” Birx said….

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo is moving to begin restarting New York’s economy primarily with young workers and others who have overcome COVID-19 and have immunity.
The Cuomo administration has yet to release a plan for which workers, businesses and schools might begin a return to normalcy.
Cuomo said the state would move slowly and in a nuanced fashion to try to right the economy to not exacerbate the spike in confirmed coronavirus cases that are doubling every three days. The apex in New York is expected within 14 to 21 days.
President Donald Trump said Tuesday he wants the country “opened up” by April 12.
“Public health and the economy,” Cuomo said Tuesday. “You don’t have to choose between the two … our public health strategy was a blunt instrument, what we said at the moment of crisis was, ‘Close everything’ … In truth, it was not the most refined public strategy. The idea that Trump wants to end social distancing, he might want to think about self-quarantining himself, because of the economy is so very Republican. Forget the old and poor, we must keep the economy growing. He needs to get re-elected after all.
Of course the Republican Lt. Governor of Texas thinks that Grandma needs to take one for the economy. Can you imagine a Democrat saying something like that? Why the pro-lifers would have gone nuts. But, Trump essentially backed him up this afternoon.
Why is it Republican men who always profess to be pro-life that will say these ridiculous things. As my mother used to say, “if men could get pregnant there would be an abortion clinic on every corner like Starbucks.” They don’t see any hypocrisy in cavalierly offering up Grandma to the alter of economic growth, but insisting that they are pro-life and they know best when it comes to a woman’s reproductive health. Especially men who have obviously had no experience with woman.
It is clear that we have to replace this money grubbing clown show. Anyone who cannot agree to make the binary choice of Joe Biden is simply a victim of their own prejudices and their well defend white privilege. This Administration and the Republicans in Congress who support them and look the other way as they bumble their way through what is shaping up to be our biggest crisis since the Great Depression.
Thank God that Nancy Pelosi was there to stop McConnell and the Republican Majority in the Senate from giving away two trillion dollars to the same large corporations that got one trillion in the tax cut. And they were going to allow Trump to give 500 billion out without any oversight. I loved McConnell’s hysterics over passing his bill when he’s sitting on hundreds of bills from the House.
As soon as we get rid of these fools the better.
