Trump names an old Freedom Caucus hardcore Consewrvertive Rep. Mark Meadows to replace Mick Mulvaney, who seems to have been banished to the job of envoy to Northern Ireland….
President Trump said Friday that Representative Mark Meadows, Republican of North Carolina and a stalwart conservative ally, will become White House chief of staff, replacing Mick Mulvaney, who has served as the acting chief for more than a year.
Mr. Trump announced the change on Twitter. He said that Mr. Mulvaney, a former Republican lawmaker, will become the United States special envoy for Northern Ireland, shaking up his battle-weary team as he leaves impeachment behind him and faces a high-octane election campaign that will test whether he can defy the odds once again to win a second term.

@realDonaldTrumpI am pleased to announce that Congressman Mark Meadows will become White House Chief of Staff. I have long known and worked with Mark, and the relationship is a very good one….
Meadows replaces acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney, who is being appointed the U.S. special envoy to Northern Ireland, Trump said in a follow-up tweet. The president thanked Mulvaney for “having served the administration so well.”
Mulvaney was tapped in an acting capacity as the top White House aide in December 2018 and officially stepped into the role in early January 2019 following the departure of John Kelly. Meadows will be Trump’s fourth White House chief of staff, following Mulvaney, Kelly and Reince Priebus.
A four-term lawmaker, Meadows announced in December that he would not run for reelection and hinted in his farewell statement that he would join either the administration or Trump’s 2020 campaign….

There’s a bizarre section on Meadows in Tim Alberta’s American Carnage, a recent book on the Republican Civil War four or five years ago.
Meadows was a leader in efforts to dump then House Speaker John Boehner. When the effort was unsuccessful(Boehner did later step down),Meadows came to see Boehner and engaged in a tearful apology climaxed by him literally ,according to Boehner, grabbing the Speakers hand, falling to his knees, and begging for forgiveness.
Since we all know that a Trump Chief of Staff has a short shelf life, I wonder if we will see a similar performance when the inevitable clash between Meadows and Trump occurs.
Unlike Boehner though (who regarded Meadows with contempt) ,Trump would likely enjoy a show of fealty such as Meadows performed for Boehner.Might save his job!

Good Point Jack…
After a Trump ride they get dumped on the side of the road and left for road kill…

Being left on the road is when you’re lucky, James> More often you become the object of all of Trump’s endless self-pity turned into venomous retribution, paid out in Tweets and rally-speeches against Treason and Deep-Statism. And if you ever talk to a writer, historian or reporter, he’ll throw you to the wolves (e.g. John Bolton).
