The order’s are for all ‘non-essential business’ to cease operations…
The advice does mean people should stop leaving their home to seek food or exercise….
This IS a result of increased testing giving increased number’s of positive’s….
New York’s numbers in particular…
New York…
On Friday, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo told New York’s 19 million residents to stay indoors as much as possible and ordered nonessential businesses to keep all of their workers home.
The measures, the state’s most drastic yet, come as confirmed coronavirus cases in New York topped 7,000, by far the most in the nation.
“These provisions will be enforced,” the governor said at a briefing in Albany. “These are not helpful hints.” They will take effect Sunday night.
Even as he told New Yorkers to stay indoors, Mr. Cuomo added that if they did go out — whether to do essential shopping or to exercise — they must stay six feet away from each other.
His new policy bans “all nonessential gatherings of individuals of any size for any reason.”
The governor also announced strict rules for people over 70 and those who have underlying illnesses, allowing them to go outside only for solitary exercise, requiring them to wear masks when in the company of others and barring them from visiting households with multiple people, among other requirements.
For days, Mayor Bill de Blasio of New York City has pushed for a “shelter in place” order and the governor has repeatedly dismissed the idea, saying he would not quarantine New Yorkers in their homes.
On Friday, Mr. Cuomo chafed at calling this new order a “shelter in place” order, saying that term evoked active shooter situations and nuclear war.
“Words matter,” the governor said.
The number of confirmed cases stood at 7,102 on Friday morning, 4,408 of them in New York City, Mr. Cuomo said.
New York State, with only 6 percent of the country’s population, accounts for around half of the nationwide total of confirmed cases.
New York performed 10,000 tests overnight, bringing the total number of people tested in the state to 32,427. About 1,250 people are hospitalized, an 18 percent hospitalization rate, the governor said.
Mr. Cuomo said New York was now testing more people per capita than China or South Korea….
Grocery stores, food delivery, pharmacies, gas stations, laundromats and some other businesses will be exempted from the action. The governor’s office said it would release an updated list of “essential” workers and services later Friday.
The forthcoming executive order will also mandate that those in the “vulnerable population,” including the elderly, immune-compromised and those with underlying illnesses, stay indoors except for solitary exercise, pre-screen all visitors and aides by taking their temperatures, and not visit households with multiple people, Cuomo said.
All New Yorkers, meanwhile, must avoid non-essential gatherings and practice social distancing of at least six feet when in public….
California…
Gov. Gavin Newsom has ordered California’s 40 million residents to stay at home indefinitely in the widest-ranging directive so far of any state as it grapples with a growing novel coronavirus epidemic that has killed 150 people nationwide.
The order late Thursday called on people to remain in their homes with exceptions only for essential travel. The move follows similar restrictions issued earlier this week for the San Francisco Bay Area.
Speaking at a late evening news conference in Sacramento, Newsom said his directive “goes into force and effect this evening and we are confident that the people of the state of California will abide by it, will do the right thing.”
The governor, a Democrat who took office just over a year ago, said Californians would “step up as they have over the last number of weeks to protect themselves, to protect their families and to protect the broader community in this great state and the world we reside in.”
He said compliance would rely heavily on “social pressure.”
No time frame was given for how long the order would remain in place….
Illinois…
Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) will issue a “shelter in place” order Friday evening, sources told the Chicago Tribune.
The order would take place Saturday, requiring all 12.7 million residents to stay home with few exceptions. …
Florida….
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) issued a new executive order Friday afternoon that all on-premises restaurant sales must cease, and all gyms and fitness centers must close. Restaurants can keep their kitchens open for takeout and delivery services only, a dramatic escalation from DeSantis’s announcement earlier this week that restaurants were permitted to stay open at 50-percent capacity…
Note….
Most primary ‘testing’ involves giving a fever test…
It is NOT a test specific to the Caronavirus…
Some ‘positive test’ hits are NOT actual positives FOR the specific Caronavirus…
Never the less?
A high fever means you you get a confirmation test right away or you. self quarantine and the worst part?…Who have been around?
Some people , like the New Orleans NFL coach…Had NO physical symptoms

Illinois is about to become the second state with a shelter in place order. I assume this means I am out of work until further notice. It’s hard to believe that I planned months ago to take this week off. I feel guilty not being there this week, but of course, its safer.
About 2 45 am last night, I saw an ambulance pull up to my condo and from the window observed the paramedics put on masks and protective suits. They took away woman wearing a mask from a few doors down from my unit.

Do you have the ability to work from home?
I am at my office but we are at half (or less) capacity here–and our office space was already roomy.
We have been told to take everything home just in case we need to work remotely for the time being.
Missouri is one of the states that is lagging in response, but St. Louis City and County have closed pretty much all essential businesses.

As far as I know there is not anything I can do at home.
Last I heard, plans were being put together for management to work at home and the “others” to be in the office.

I hope they have plans to offer all workers who cannot work from home paid leave until unemployment can kick in. Good luck.

At the moment, financial considerations are somewhat far down my list. Others are far less fortunate. Since I was told our cafeteria closed, I was going to go to the store to find things I can bring for lunch there, but that’s probably pointless now.
I have so many unused sick and vacation days. The last time I took a whole week off was 2016 until now, and I was already going to be walking into a mess when I returned. I am waiting to get an email or text from my Supervisor, but the Governor is apparently going to announce this in 90 minutes.

FWIW, it sounds like my company may be deemed “essential” after all. My Supervisor doesn’t seem to be sure yet if we will be open, but reading the Governor’s Executive Order, it sounds like we probably would be.
Well, at least there will a lot less traffic and less people around in the building. Hopefully, nothing bad will happen and of course other benefits are being able to get out of the house and continuing to get paid. I just wish I knew for sure before Monday morning.
The bad news will be that I will probably be so busy, that I won’t get to post here much.. but at least I will get to miss having to listen to Trump at 11 am every day.

Just stay safe….

Going to the grocery store today was traumatic, but it wasn’t exactly a war zone, so I should try to keep some perspective.
I bought way too much at one time too.
jamesb says
We’ve been going….
Today was the first day stores seem to have stuff…
We’re careful to wipe down….And keep distance when we can.
But we have to eat….

New York liquor stores deemed ‘essential’ and can stay open amid coronavirus crisis!

Yes CG….
The more testing?
The more hits
The more hits, some will be false, the more
pressure governors will be under to stop non essential business and gatherings ,..That does NOT mean u are locked in ur house in most cases… it does mean social distancing…
