Joe Biden is pulling ahead in his win of the nomination…
State primaries are being pushed back…
Joe Biden under Secret Service protection is extending a olive brach to Sanders and his supporters.
Sanders is talking about what he ‘wants’…
He IS a US Senator….
He should return to his day job as Senator….
Bernie , the cantankerous campaigner still won’t throw in the towel yet…
Bernie Sanders’ path to the Democratic nomination is closing, but a quick exit is far from guaranteed — even if he gets wiped out Tuesday.
From his debate posture to staffing moves to the “virtual rally” he convened Monday evening, the Vermont senator is signaling that he may not be ready to concede.
If Sanders remains in the race, it will be in part to keep his “political revolution” alive. According to people familiar with his thinking, Sanders will not only consider what’s best for his campaign, but also the progressive movement.
Many of Sanders’ aides and allies also expect him to press onward after Tuesday. They see a benefit in amassing as many delegates as possible in order to influence the party platform at the Democratic National Convention this summer — even if Sanders himself can’t win the nomination.
“I think there’s a very good chance that he will stay in,” said Larry Cohen, chair of Our Revolution, a group founded by Sanders in 2016. “The number of delegates you have, the number of people on the platform committee is absolutely critical.”
Notably, Sanders has staff in place for states that vote as late as April 28, according to a campaign adviser, including New York. Sanders’ aides have long thought that he would have a good shot in the Empire State, which is rich in delegates. Earlier this month, Sanders’ team announced it was opening five offices in Pennsylvania, a state seen by many local and state officials as Joe Biden’s second home.
A former aide close to the Sanders campaign said that a senior staffer argued as recently as last week that there is still a path to victory even if Sanders suffers major losses Tuesday.
“I think he’s in. Who is going to advise him to drop out?” the person said, adding that current aides can “work for whatever group Bernie starts next.”

Bernie is risking entering 1996 Ross Perot territory.
CG says
That makes no sense. Bernie is not running third party (despite the fantasies of Trump acolytes.)
He is basically in the same position that Mike Huckabee was against McCain in the latter stages of the 2008 primaries.
jamesb says
The nomination race IS over…..
Joe Biden needs to be nice to Sanders….
But turn his attention to running against Donald Trump…
He may7 not know what the fuck he’s doing…
But Trump IS the President and Biden needs to be able begin a serious effort as soon as possible…
CG says
It would appear to be over under traditional perspectives, but nothing has been traditional about Presidential politics the last two cycles.
Until Biden “clinches” it would be sort of dumb for Sanders to drop out. Now, if he goes scorched Earth on Biden, that might be a problem for the party, but there is no indication he will do so.
CG says
If Biden needs Sanders to drop out in order to develop a coherent message against Trump, then Biden has more serious problems than you realize.
jamesb says
Here’s my view…
For three weeks in a row?
Biden has rolled over Sanders…
The media herding over Sanders is over….
The Sanders supporters talk the talk , but do NOT show up….
As I often repeat …Bernie Sanders is NOT a Democrat …
The party he campaigned against has told him in no uncertain terms TWICE?
They are fine in who THEY are NOT what he wants…
Now Biden IS gonna talk shit right now to get some of Sanders people to hang with him….
But in the end?
Joe Biden isn’t a ideology guy….
Just like Obama…
So?
All this Biden has to kiss Bernie’s ass is gonna last for just a little while…
But ain’t gone be the Joe Biden who runs against Trump….
Biden is NOT a guy who gloats in winning…
For decades he’s been what the Democrats and the country needs right now…
A guy who is pragmatic ….
Sanders will continue to try sell his vision…
But it didn’t work for Democratic primary voters…
It’s NOIT gonna work in a general election either….
Joe B iden and the DNC KNOW that….
jamesb says
It over….
Bernie gets his time for now on a stage that will be getting smaller by the minute….

Good God CG. Give it up. Biden is the nominee. You’ll have plenty of reasons to toss your vote away on another write in by November. I’m sure you will regale us all with the twists and turns and how much it aches and pains you to possibly vote for a Democrat–until you don’t.
We’re in the middle of a pandemic. We need a real leader. Your personal histrionics over who you will vote for before you waste your ballot on a write in that will be laughed at and tossed away are amusing. But completely worthless.
CG says
1. Goodnight james.
2. Scott, happy to amuse you amid these tough times. I have said that Biden has this wrapped up, but it is also true that all sorts of unconventional things keep happening in Presidential politics. Nothing has been “clinched” yet and there is still a significant portion of the party that does not want Biden.
No drama though, I see no reason to vote for Biden in November. I was thinking of the best way to vote in a primary in order to stop Sanders, but others states already did that and it was no longer needed. Biden tossed away the chance to get me to vote for him in November by moving so far to the left. Although, I will likely be “rooting” for him against Trump on some level.
Biden has a lot of decent personal qualities (and some bad ones) but I don’t think America sees a ” real leader” in him. Those who want to beat Trump though rightly see him as not Sanders and everyone will see him as not Trump and that just may be enough. It’s going to be a pretty unpredictable ride though thru November. Then, someone has to govern.
Stay safe everyone.
CG says
It’s not really relevant now. Sanders is unlikely to attack Biden. He started to pull his punches a week ago. Biden has the nomination wrapped up minus a major gaffe or an illness. It is in his interest to keep beating Sanders in contests. That might be the only way he stays in the news for a few weeks.
Keith says
No Bernie isn’t dropping out because he’s Bernie. He’s not Perot or Huckabee, he’s an ideologue who actually likes endlessly talking about issues. He deserves no further discussion other than to know he will eventually concede and enthusiastically support Joe Biden.
A few things:
First, the last few weeks should have shown us all that our President is totally unprepared to lead in a crisis, a liar, and an existential threat to our Democracy. His re-election would be a dangerous and unpredictable event.
So it appalls me that one of our friends would throw their vote away when every vote is needed to take our country back from the mob like family that currently runs it. This is a binary choice between Biden and a wannabe dictator. Write in votes for a wimpy Republican who occasionally flirts with a moral greatness don’t count, unless you count an obsessive need to be noticed by a shrinking group of faceless political junkies.
Look at it this way, the Republican Party and the Nation represent that waitress that Ted Kennedy had sex with so many years ago on the floor of that French restaurant (you know, the time Ted single handily destroyed the moral fiber of America by having consensual sex in a public place), and Donald Trump is Ted Kennedy, only Donald is fucking America and it isn’t consensual by any possible measure.
So, to, even in a primary, throw your vote away on a write-in is the height of white privilege. “A second Trump term can’t hurt me,” right? But I can certainly get the attention I crave by endlessly discussing who I may or may not vote for right up to the fall election. Pathetic on so many different levels.
Second, I was “heartened” to see turnout in Florida and Arizona was up significantly, in spite of the virus fears. Two swing states with a fired up Democratic base. It will be a pleasure to door knock this fall.
Finally, my old boss’s son lost his primary tonight. He can take his third base and go home. I guess those anti-choice Republicans who helped last time just don’t have the same juice they used to, and it was a divided primary field too.
Still counting primary ballots here in California. More about that later.
Take care and wash your hands, Donald Trump and the Republican Party will get us all killed and we can’t let that happen.
My Name Is Jack says
Bernie is “assessing “ his campaign .
What’s there to “assess?”
It’s over .
Scott P says
Yeah that Biden hasn’t “clinched” is immaterial.
Before yesterday’s primaries Trump hadn’t clinched the GOP nomination.
Handwriting is on the wall.
CG says
Yes, but Hillary certainly did not drop out before Obama clinched. I cannot think of any open race in which everybody dropped out before a candidate clinched the required number of delegates.
I am sure Sanders knows he is not going to be the nominee, but still wants to go into a convention (in any format) with as many delegates as possible in order to influence the Platform, etc.
CG says
And Sanders is definitely not out of money.
jamesb says
Axios just ran a piece that Sanders would halt his campaign….
Sanders campaign says ‘NOT TRUE’….
Scott P says
It’s pretty clear Democratic voters are ready to have a nominee.
Like Jack said, it’s over.
Sanders can stay in, drop out. It won’t make a bit of difference. He likely won’t win another primary going forward.
Keith says
Lots of denial here today. Things like Kim Foxx might lose this coming November. Or, that Trump and the Republicans might not get blamed for driving, once again, the country into a financial ditch.
We heard this bullshit before, remember, when George Bush was standing by with his thumb up his ass as his Administration was destroying the economy.
The stock market has now fallen to what it was when Obama left office. Hopefully it won’t fall to the level it was when Obama came into office.
The Obama recovery has ended, the Republican recession has begun. But, it isn’t Trump’s fault. Really?
This is the money grubbing asshole who put the economy on heat, wrote a trillion dollars worth of hot checks, drove the interest rate to almost zero (benefiting his own indebtedness), and constantly fed the market lies for short term gains (I will sign that non-existent agreement soon) is totally to blame. He lived by that sword, now let him shove it up his fat ass. Please don’t give me that old Republican bullshit about the economy. How many times are we expected to believe those lies?
Ford is reducing its North American production. All of this was avoidable. But we have an incompetent failed casino owner in the White House. Our thanks to the Republican Party for putting power ahead of the the interests of the American people. Hopefully they will pay the price this November.
CG says
And as we see, politics is more important than humanity to some.
Keith says
Oh the humanity of it all.
At long last Corey, have you no shame? At long last?
You cannot shovel this Republican bullshit any longer. You have a moral responsibility to your fellow human beings, yet you chose to continue your support for an existential threat to both our Democracy and the health and well being of your family and neighbors.
You cannot even bring yourself to vote for the only person who can save us from this threat. That’s how important politics is to you.
Sad.
CG says
Yes, H. Keith, Joe Biden, your 5th choice, is all that is preventing the Apocalypse.
If so, he should have little trouble getting votes. He will certainly win Illinois. If he wants to win Ohio, he will quarantine you to your Whine Cave, and prevent you from doing political damage at the grassroots level like you did in 2016.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
So, CG, what else happened in the primary (besides Dan Lipinski failing of renomination) ?
Did the candidate for whom you switched registrations win ? Is Foxx still the Dem. nominee for State’s Attorney ?
CG says
Yes, she won with an apparent plurality. Three white opponents split the vote and the party establishment and many national figures endorsed her. Overall turnout was abysmal of course. I think there is a 1 in 4 chance a Republican could actually beat her in November.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
These are the best numbers I could find with Bing (55% counted). No doubt I could find and file the Cook County Board of Elections’ website, the same way I do for New York, California & Rhode Island. (Maybe CG already has that bookmark.)

Now I have much better numbers, from the Cook County Clerk’s office: (1585 of 1599 precincts). Kim Foxx clearly won, but her chief opponent, George Conway, was only 8% behind her.
