In a lengthy speech before imposing the penalty, Jackson seemed to take aim at Trump — saying Stone “was not prosecuted for standing up for the president; he was prosecuted for covering up for the president.” She also appeared to call out Attorney General William P. Barr, whose intervention to reduce career prosecutors’ sentencing recommendation she called “unprecedented.” But she said the politics surrounding the case had not influenced her final decision….

I said that last week and got a little pushback here to the effect that Trump only pardons people when there’s something in it for for him.

If he does pardon the guy right away i would assume Flynn and Rudy, if it came to that?would get increased jail time throw downs from the judges knowing Trump would throw out the sentences…
That’s what was puzzling about Trump trying to bully Comey in the Flynn deal.
He could always pardon Flynn regardless of what Comey did.
Then again, it was at the beginning of his term.Hell, Trump might not have known he had pardon power!

Apparently Trump is already moving to centralize pardoning and commutation applications in the White House essentIally bypassing the Justice Department.

And of course my Trump-excusing father had to point out that he read about Obama pardoning a Puerto Rican terrorist (which he did.) I tried to explain that two wrongs don’t make a right, and then I also brought up Obama commuting Chelsea Manning, which was even worse.
Apparently, Blago is eligible to vote in Illinois once he re-registers. He may very well be a Trump surrogate,and Trump might be using him with the dangle of a full pardon. He thinks black voters love Blago so it will get him black votes. Indeed Blago is already calling the entire Justice system “racist.”
Trump also seems obsessed with the idea that Blago was prosecuted by Comey. Completely untrue. Comey was in the private sector the entire saga.
If Trump did not know Blago from tv show they were both on and if he did not see himself in Blago, the commutation never would have happened.
