I should never have doubted that Mitt Romney would do the right thing. I feel vindicated in having supported him in efforts to lead my party since at least 2007. Truly today, he is the leader of my party… or whatever is left of it.
Whatever consequences he faees politically from this point on will pale in comparison to how he will be remembered by history.
The first and only U.S. Senator ever to vote to convict a President of his or her own party. That is not easy thing to do. (He also made it clear he will not be voting for Donald Trump once again in November, but I never had *any* doubt about that)
The reaction among his constituents will probably be mixed, but his children and many grandchildren should never fail to be proud….

Romney’s family should be proud. He will get beat up by fellow Republicans, but history will now appropriately treat him kindly.
It was a defining moment for Romney. Romney has flaws. But when we look back in history, we can find flaws with all great people: MLK, Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson, etc. Romney is not in that category, but he seized the moment to do a great act when it was the most important time to do so. And “greatness” is delivering when it really matters.

That’s a good post Zreebs.
Short but essentially says it all.

Someone on HHR just said that Romney’s speech read like one of my posts on that site.
He apparently did not mean it as a compliment but it literally just made my year!

Though I wish I could write as well as David French consistently does…(if I devoted the time and focus, I would like to think I maybe could…)
There are literally dozens of pieces out there praising Mitt Romney today that I could link to, but I will just limit it to this one:

Meghan McCain is becoming increasingly insufferable. She is mad that people are comparing Romney to her father. She ought to be thrilled.
It’s weird because for a couple of years she was incredibly positive towards Romney and now she’s back to talking about things from 1994, etc. It’s noteworthy that while she is anti-Trump, her husband is the publisher of perhaps the most pro-Trump publication out there, “The Federalist.”

While I criticize her on that, I also read that she got into it today with Mayor Pete on “The View” over infanticide.
I cannot believe that we are actually at a point where politicians will take the position that it is ok to end the life of a child after it is fully born and viable, because there is “bad news” about a medical condition (and it is pretty rare that a mother would not already know any diagnosis beforehand). This is just an extreme position that the vast majority of America would find wrong. The Democrat candidacies of Bill Clinton and Barack Obama would never have gone this far… and Buttigieg is considered the “moderate.” Where exactly should the line be drawn? Age 5? After that? As talented as I find Buttigieg and even as moving as I found parts of his post-caucus speech, this definitely reaffirms why I could not vote for him.
