…from the NY Times…
A grand jury in Chicago revived the criminal case against the actor Jussie Smollett, indicting him Tuesday on charges that he lied to the police in connection with the alleged hate crime attack against him a year ago. The indictment came 11 months after prosecutors dropped similar charges against him.
The new charges were announced by a special prosecutor, Dan K. Webb, who was assigned to the case after a judge ruled that the Cook County state’s attorney, Kim Foxx, had not properly handled it the first time.
In a rebuke to Ms. Foxx’s office, Mr. Webb criticized the decision by her prosecutors to abruptly drop the case, saying in a news release that his review of the record showed that her office had believed it had strong evidence against Mr. Smollett. Mr. Webb said the state’s attorney’s office had not offered any evidence showing that it had gained new information indicating Mr. Smollett’s innocence, nor any documentation that similar cases had been handled the same way.
Mr. Webb said that he had not reached any conclusions about whether prosecutors engaged in wrongdoing and that he was continuing to investigate….

Dan K. Webb… anyone have any memories of him?
Anyways, this whole thing is my main rationale to force myself to take a Democrat ballot next month to vote against the Cook County States Attorney who dropped the charges under mysterious circumstances. This development is not good for her campaign. They are comparing this indictment to James Comey for some reason now.

Huh?

This is leading all the news in Chicago. The Kim Foxx campaign is crying racism, etc. The biggest thing going for her in the primary is that she has three challengers and all of them are white. So, she may very well win.

Harder for Democrats to attack Bill Barr’s subservience to Trump should Kim Foxx win re-election.

Maybe….
Maybe NOT.…
Lot of Black’s COULD come to Foxx’s defense as the some media is reporting…
Just like Trump….
She DOES have a solid group of supporters who will question the new charges as political….
The Comey Hillary Clinton episode HAS been mentioned repeatedly on this…
…
“The Cook County State’s Attorney’s office charged Jussie Smollett with multiple counts, and today the Special Prosecutor did the same. What’s questionable here is the James Comey-like timing of that charging decision, just 35 days before an election, which can only be interpreted as the further politicization of the justice system, something voters in the era of Donald Trump should consider offensive,” the Foxx campaign wrote.

Moss was one of more than a dozen religious leaders who just Tuesday morning came out to back Foxx’s reelection bid. She has powerful support.
At the same news conference with Foxx, the Rev. Janette Wilson of the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition shut down a question about Smollett.
“No, this press conference is not about Smollett, and we’re not going to allow to her to – we keep going over and over this,” Wilson said. “Ask her about her record. Ask her about the reforms that she made in Cook County.”
People from U.S. Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren to Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle all endorsed Foxx months ago.
But publicly, Foxx has never been able to shake her office’s dismissal of Smollett’s charges completely….

As she battles questions over her handling of the Jussie Smollett case, Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx got a big endorsement Tuesday from Chicago-area clergy.
The endorsement came as a special prosecutor indicted Smollett for a second time on charges of lying to police about a racist attack.
About 50 African-American pastors from churches throughout Cook County gathered to endorse Foxx’s bid for a second term as state’s attorney, saying she has delivered on her campaign promise four years ago to overhaul the criminal justice system…

If she survives a four way primary (she would have no chance in a 2 way primary), I think now there might be a 25 percent chance she could lose to a Republican in November, which would be pretty remarkable.

I’ll be voting for Conway in the Dem primary (gee that feels weird saying,) He has a ton of money and is the only one on the airwaves so I assume he is her toughest competitor.
In the four way race for the open position of Cook County Clerk, I will be voting for the one African-American candidate. He had previously shown independence from Toni Preckwinkle when he sat on the County Board.
I suppose I’ll vote for Raja for Congress. I have no idea what his opponents are running on.
I will have to think of someone to write in against Dick Durbin in this primary. It will be a cold day in hell before I would vote for him.
jamesb says
Didn’t Conway lose last time around after leaving CPFB?
CG says
Not sure what you mean.
The Conway running in Cook County I believe is a first time candidate for anything. His father is multi-millionare (and possibly a secret Republican)

Oh, It’s not the ex-Fed Consumer guy?

Bernie Sanders endorsed Kim Foxx today.
So much for being an “independent” Democrat.
