This is getting worst by the hour ….
There is now the announcement that partial results will be released by the Iowa Democratic Party by 5PM
Majority PARTIAL results!
Stay tuned…..
Iowa Democratic Party Chair Troy Price told the presidential campaigns this morning that they plan to “release the majority of results that we have by 4 p.m. today,” according to a source on the call. That is 5 p.m. ET.
The call is ongoing…..
CG says
The partial results with 62%- (so basically a late termination)
Mayor Pete wins!
Sanders 2nd
Warren 3rd
Biden 4th
The Sanders people are going to beside themselves with the rest of the results not coming out.
CG says
Buttigieg 27
Sanders 25
Warren 18
Biden 16
Klobuchar 13
Yang 1
CG says
I’ve been saying that Pete was totally in his right to declare this a moral victory, say he beat expectations, etc etc and all the people (in both parties) complaining about him doing so were fools who knew nothing about politics, but by golly, he actually is going to be able to declare a victory!
Zreebs says
It is totally in a candidate’s right to spin the election result any way they want. But I agree that if you exceed expectations, then you are a winner. Even if Sanders is the ultimate winner, mayor Pete’s “victory” is probably greater. At this stage, the losers from yesterday look like Warren, Amy and especially Biden.
And of course, the race isn’t over yet for any of the above group.
CG says
Looking at Daily Kos comments, it is remarkable how much the people in the crowd loathe Buttigieg.
CG says
Ok, they couldn’t even get this right.
Apparently, the first set of numbers was delegate equivalets that Pete won, but Sanders wins the popular vote…
Popular vote final alignment-
Sanders 26
Buttigieg 25
Warren 21
Biden 13
Klobuchar 12
Yang 1
uncoMITTed 1
Multiple trophies indeed.

Trump is going to do a 20 minute riff tonight on “they are screwing Crazy Bernie.”
CG says
I have basically watched every SOTU address live since I was 13 and have suffered through plenty by Presidents I really disliked because I thought it was my civic duty. (I have seen every one in my lifetime via YouTube… yes, I know, pretty sad)
But if there was ever a year for you folks who dislike Trump to want to skip one, this may be it…..
Zreebs says
Since when does Trump have any credibility in anything he says?

As we say in Texas, saddle up — 62% of caucus results from across all 99 Iowa precincts:
PETE 26.9%
BERNIE 25.1%
WARREN 18.3%
BIDEN 15.6%
KLOBUCHAR 12.6
YANG 1.1%
jamesb says
This is NOT a final figure….
62%
Bernie’s internal’s are not correct so far…
Like election day?
It’s where numbers come from…
Biden looks a bit better in the real…
We don’t know how long this will take
But looking good for Pete which i think is actually a bit of a save for Biden …
Sanders people have to be pissed…
CG says
Biden, the former two term Vice President, lost by double digits to the former Mayor of South Bend. They were competing for the same kind of voters. He’s lucky Klobuchar was stuck at jury duty or he would have finished behind her too (and for all we know he might have.)
It.is.not.good.news.for.Biden.
jamesb says
He did’t REALLY expect to win Iowa ….
But the delegate race….
The REAL one is fine….
I’ll be listening to u when they get past N.H.
jamesb says
CG…..
Obama won Iowa
Hillary bearly
Biden will lose the popular vote but place
Larry Sabato
Keeping things in perspective, a mere 41 delegates are being allocated here. Nearly 2,000 delegates will be needed for nomination in Milwaukee. And Trump carried Iowa in a near-landslide in 2016, and is the early favorite again. #IowaCaucas
Zreebs says
Well you certainly expected him to do better than he did. Recall how we bet lunch on whether Biden would finish in the top two in Iowa and New Hampshire. Most likely, it looks like I will win, and if I do, I would like you to take me to Ruth Chris here in Jersey City.
jamesb says
Yes I did….
jamesb says
38% of the Iowa vote or whatever still not known to us….

I want to put some things in simple terms for CG…
First off, I got a real kick out of watching the partisan presentation of the epic failure that was last night’s Caucuses(Worse even than Mitt Romney’s ‘winning’ it in ’12, only to have it taken back by Rick Santorum in a recount some weeks later). So, you oppose Trump and yet you believe everything Fox News(State run TV) says about the Democratic candidates? How does this make any sense? This seems to be the present plight of the so-called “Never Trump” wing of Conservative/Republican thought: Bemoan Trump, bash Democrats, and offer no constructive solutions to the problem beyond pining for the days of Bush, Cheney, and abusing public trust in the name of illegal wars and the shallow defense of illusory ‘family values.’ Nihilistic BS is all it is and, in retrospect, ever was.
Apart from my somewhat recent realization of Climate Change being the big issue of our time, I never had cohesive principles or what one might call a positive vision in terms of politics. I think many matters are entirely negotiable. However my lodestar for better and worse always was human decency and morality, even in those many times when I did take it beyond an extreme. I did once think the Republicans, led by the likes of John McCain and Mitt Romney, were more often than not on that side. Nowadays, it is uniformly the Democratic side who stands, flaws and all, on the comparably respectable side of the moral fence, standing up(Lumberingly so, but still…) to the abuse of power and cultural dumbing down being engaged in by the White House and other powers that be.
While I am partial to Joe Biden and Pete Buttigieg, whoever is nominated, I will be glad to vote for that person. Partisan isn’t something I particularly like being, but that is just the way it is. If you were being honest, maybe you would consider both the negative impact on people who don’t possess our collective privileges and the erosion of truly moral, honest values(Different from the stuff many modern Republicans/Religious White Southerners like to go on about) that is underway in our time. Peace out and go with God.

I agree completely!!

Excellent SE….
Glad to hear from you….
Please don’t stay away so long again….

Warren is only winning 5 percent in Pocahontas County.
CG says
Warren is at 22 percent, but a distant second in Warren County.
CG says
I wasn’t quite sure what SE was trying to convey directly to me, but it’s good to hear from him and I hope he is doing well.
Keith says
Corey expressed some confusion as to what message SE had for him (see above).
SE couldn’t have been clearer:
“I did once think the Republicans, led by the likes of John McCain and Mitt Romney, were more often than not on that side. Nowadays, it is uniformly the Democratic side who stands, flaws and all, on the comparably respectable side of the moral fence, standing up(Lumberingly so, but still…) to the abuse of power and cultural dumbing down being engaged in by the White House and other powers that be.”
It’s a simple message. You can’t claim to be a never Trumper and continue to support the Republican Party. We don’t have to look any further than the last few weeks to know that the GOP is morally bankrupt. They have sold their souls to Donald Trump and tomorrow they will prove it.
Amazing that Rush Limbaugh and a 100 year old Tuskegee Airman should be at tonight’s State of the Union Speech and Rush is the one who went home with the Medal of Freedom.
The man who called Chelsea Clinton a dog and mocked a victim of Parkinson disease, an enormous racist who spews hate with every public utterance, was part of tonight’s reality show. The act diminishes the medal beyond belief.
But, hey we should all focus on the fact that Nancy Pelosi trolled Trump by tearing up some paper standing behind him at the end of his performance. We were told we will all regret it. The woman who has outmaneuvered Trump at every turn knows how to show her contempt for a someone who shows only contempt for others. She ripped up his manifesto of lies. It will drive him crazy.
As SE so eloquently pointed out, it’s the Democrats who stand on the moral side on this one.
Speaking of the Democrats. Yes, the Iowa Democrats clearly messed up trying an untested computer system to record their new caucus system. While that might thrill others, it reminded me, as SE also pointed out, that the Republicans had their own caucus mix-up in 2012. Shit happens.
Also, much was made of the turnout (down from the 2008 high). My brother and sister-in-law who live in Iowa have always attended caucus night, but stayed home this time. They are truly undecided and didn’t want to be pushed into making a decision since they will, like me, vote blue no matter who. But, they also think, and I believe the numbers prove this out, that as Iowa grows older it is also becoming less educated and, as a result, less Democratic. Their grand children all went to college on the Coasts, and when they graduated they stayed for better job opportunities. I don’t think that when we get to Super Tuesday that turnout will be a problem.
As a veteran of two caucus campaigns I can tell you it’s time for them to be replaced with a straight up primary. The whole process is undemocratic given the timing and the length of most individual caucuses. From what I know about Mayor Pete’s campaign in Iowa I was very impressed. He built a campaign from scratch and beat someone who received half of the vote only four years before and never stopped running for President.
It’s really ridiculous that Iowa and New Hampshire should start the nominating process since both of the states are so very very white and don’t represent the country as a whole. Time to change this equation. South Carolina is make or break for Biden.
Still undecided here in California.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Washington (CNN) Pete Buttigieg led the field in the first set of results released after Monday night’s Iowa caucuses, providing a major boost for the former South Bend, Indiana, mayor.
With 71% precincts reporting as of early Wednesday morning, Buttigieg had 26.8% of state delegate equivalents, followed by Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders at 25.2%, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren with 18.4% and former Vice President Joe Biden at 15.4%….

Nancy ripping up Trump’s speech just pushed this story off the “front page.” All focus on New Hampshire. If Bernie under performs there then he’ll get the Biden treatment.
