But someone has convinced Donald Trump to hire serious lawyers to defend him in his upcoming impeachment trial inn the US Senate…
President Trump plans on adding former independent counsel Kenneth W. Starr and the defense lawyer Alan Dershowitz to his legal team for his trial by the Senate, a person briefed on the plan said Friday.
Mr. Starr, whose investigation into President Bill Clinton’s sexual relationships led to his impeachment, will be joined by Robert Ray, who succeeded Mr. Starr as independent counsel and wrote the final report on Mr. Clinton, the person said.
Rounding out the team will be Mr. Dershowitz, a Harvard Law School professor emeritus who became famous as a defense counsel for high-profile defendants like O.J. Simpson.
The White House counsel, Pat Cipollone, and Mr. Trump’s personal lawyer, Jay Sekulow, will lead the legal team.
“Professor Dershowitz will present oral arguments at the Senate trial to address the constitutional arguments against impeachment and removal,” the team said in a statement.
“While Professor Dershowitz is nonpartisan when it comes to the constitution — he opposed the impeachment of President Bill Clinton and voted for Hillary Clinton — he believes the issues at stake go to the heart of our enduring Constitution. He is participating in this impeachment trial to defend the integrity of the Constitution and to prevent the creation of a dangerous constitutional precedent.”
More recently, Mr. Dershowitz has faced questions about his representation of Jeffrey Epstein, a financier and convicted sex offender who committed suicide in a New York City jail in August….
Update….
Dershowitz has clarified that he is NOT part of the Trump defense team…He will give a one house presentation during the trial on presidential actions and powers….THAT is all…

Humorous exchange between Dershowitz and CNN Legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin wherein Dershowitz refused to say he was “Donald Trumps lawyer.”
Toobin kept taunting him to just utter the words yet Dershowitz refused to do so.

As To Dershowitz,his theory ,and not totally without foundation ,is that a President can only be impeached for “criminal like”;behavior and nebulous terms like “abuse of power” are not sufficient to remove a President from office.

I should add that Dershowitz is not one of my favorite people.
I do recognize him though as a legal scholar whose arguments are usually well thought out ,even when I disagree with him.
I mean what’s a legal argument compared to “gettin a piece of Trumps hide,” one of your recent “reasons” for your new found lust for impeachment.
Ah well, the whole thing will be over in a couple of weeks.Trump will be acquitted and we can get on with the election.

It is my understanding that Dershowitz is an expert on criminal law, not constitutional law.
Dersh says he just wants to speak about Trump’s extortion isn’t a crime….
