Why would a Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court warn his fellow citizens about taking democracy for granted?
Could it be about Donald J. Trump?
Could it be about lecturing other judges about politics?
Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts warned that Americans may “take democracy for granted” in his annual year-end message published Tuesday.
“[W]e have come to take democracy for granted, and civic education has fallen by the wayside. In our age, when social media can instantly spread rumor and false information on a grand scale, the public’s need to understand our government, and the protections it provides, is ever more vital.”

John Roberts’ verbal report on the State of the Judiciary only takes up 4 of those 7 pages, so it’s not an unreasonable length to read on-line in one short sitting; the last 3 pages are the facts and statistics about the various Federal courts’ case-load, decisions, etc.

The Chief Justice actually has a very limited role in an impeachment.
While he can make “rulings,” those rulings may be overruled by a majority vote of the Senators.Put another way?
The Jury can overrule the Judge!
Another reason to quit comparing this to an actual trial.Yes it has certain accoutrements of such ,but it’s far from a real trial. It remains essentially a political proceeding.
