Biden IS correct….
Bernie Sanders is a registered Independent US Senator in Vermont…
And THAT matters to some…
But not to others in the Democratic Party….
The guys ARE throwing down at each with the first 2020 Democratic nomination contest only 4 days away in Iowa…
With just four days remaining until the Iowa caucuses, Joe Biden is seeking to distinguish himself from Bernie Sanders by highlighting the latter is not a member of the Democratic Party.
Mr. Sanders is an independent in the Senate, who caucuses with the Democratic Party. His home state of Vermont does not have party registration. He filed to run for president as a Democrat in the 2020 election, but separately filed to run for re-election to the Senate in 2024 as an independent.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday during a brief stop for ice cream in Pella, Iowa, Mr. Biden said there were certain “self-evident” contrasts between himself and his opponents in the Democratic primary.
When asked to identify the contrast between himself and Mr. Sanders, Mr. Biden said: “I’m a Democrat.”
Asked if he was inferring that Mr. Sanders was not a Democrat, Mr. Biden responded: “Well, he says he’s not.”
“He’s not a registered Democrat, to the best of my knowledge,” he added. “Bernie has a different view — I mean, everything I’ve suggested to you that I want to do, I’ve figured out how to pay for it.”
Mr. Biden’s remarks come as he and Mr. Sanders have traded barbs over the issue of Social Security and as the two candidates have topped several early state and national polls for the Democratic presidential nomination…

Update…
BIDEN: “Bernie is a Democrat. He calls himself a Democratic Socialist. We have a different view on a whole lot of things. He’s a decent guy. I don’t think he shouldn’t be running. That wasn’t the question. The question is whether or not who’s best prepared on day one to reunite this party and the country as well as stand on the world stage and reassert our role in the world. That was the issue. That was the context of what we’re talking about.”
STEPHANOPOULOS: “You’ve been saying the party has to unify to defeat Trump. Does that mean if Bernie Sanders does win the nomination, you’ll endorse hi in campaign forum?”
BIDEN: “Yes, whomever wins the nomination, I’m going to endorse.”

In the same interview on ABC….
Former Vice President Joe Biden on Friday predicted a “neck and neck” finish with Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in the 2020 Iowa Democratic caucuses next week, stopping short of guaranteeing victory in the nation’s first presidential nominating contest.
Asked during an interview on ABC’s “Good Morning America” whether he would emerge triumphant in Iowa on Monday, Biden told host George Stephanopoulos: “I think it’s going to be really close, George. It’s neck and neck. Bernie’s up, I’m up. Actually, there’s basically a statistical tie.”…
