The Senate will NOT agree to this…
Some Republicans in the House may actually join Democrats…
It won’t stop Trump from doing something stupid anyways…
Donald Trump doesn’t REALLY want to go to war with Iran…
Nor does his generals…..
Nor does Iran…
The question is who is gonna stop all this?
On Wednesday, lawmakers will receive a full briefing from Trump officials, including Defense Secretary Mark Esper and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, according to a notice sent to congressional offices.
The House resolution, announced by Speaker Nancy Pelosi late Sunday, opens yet another front against Trump, who has repeatedly ignored congressional leaders of both parties in his foreign policy across the Middle East.
Pelosi described Trump’s action as a “provocative and disproportionate military airstrike” that she said endangers U.S. troops “by risking a serious escalation of tensions with Iran.”
House Democrats have condemned Trump in droves, with the caucus’ most liberal members, like Rep. Barbara Lee of California, as well as moderate ex-military members like Jason Crow of Colorado, equally forceful in their opposition.
“I’m not trying to be secretary of State. I’m trying to understand if we, as a nation, should be having a conversation if we want to get into another protracted war in the Middle East,” Rep. Elissa Slotkin, an Iraq War veteran who will lead the resolution on the floor this week, said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Monday.
The resolution comes with some risk for Pelosi and her deputies in the House, however. Top Democrats are anxious that Republicans could use the measure to force a vote on another contentious issue, like Israel, that has split the Democratic Caucus in the past, according to people familiar with the discussions.
Trump’s acceleration of the U.S.-Iran conflict could become a major theme of the House Democratic agenda in 2020, with the three-month impeachment probe now behind them….
Note…
Column: Don’t try to make sense of Trump’s Iran policy. He doesn’t have one
…on Sunday night, he threatened to impose “very big sanctions” on Iraq if the Iraqi parliament follows through on its nonbinding resolution to oust American forces from its soil. “We will charge them sanctions like they’ve never seen before, ever. It’ll make Iranian sanctions look somewhat tame.”
If you’re trying to follow along from home, this is a perfectly understandable moment to say, “Wait, what? Isn’t that a complete flip?”
The key word here is “moment.” That’s where Trump lives: in the moment. You wouldn’t think Don from Queens could be so zen, but it is what it is. He consistently says he wants to extricate the U.S. from Mideast conflicts. Except for all the times he doesn’t. With each about-face, his defenders and detractors rush to debate the theory behind the policy change, when there is none….
…
To expect intellectual consistency from Trump is like expecting a dog to meow. It’s not in his nature….
Democratic Socialist Dave says
The author of that L.A. Times column about Trump’s inconsistency is not some liberal, but Jonah Goldberg, a Never-Trump ideological conservative and former editor of National Review.

It took Elizabeth Warren three tries before she was willing to admit that Solemani was a terrorist.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said that may be Trump wouldn’t have ordered the attack on Salmeini if Congress hadn’t impeached him.
But I thought it was an “imminent threat”?
CG says
McCarthy is dumb as a box of rocks.
He lost the chance to be Speaker because of a gaffe he made while discussing the Benghazi Committee and Hillary,
Nonetheless, it could be true.
Scott P says
Oh yeah when he admitted the Benghazi investigation was only to hurt Clinton in the polls.
In the Trump Republican party just flat out admitting what you are suspected of doing is held in high regard I think.

Former Republican New Hampshire Senator Gordon Humphrey ,who quit the Republican Party the day after Trumps election ,and now calls himself an “Independent, “ has endorsed Joe Biden.
Humphrey served in the Senate from 1979-1990 and was known as a very conservative Senator. He later made a couple of unsuccessful runs for Governor.
He says he left the Republican Party because of Trump and says that Trump needs to be removed from office
Scott P says
Good for Senator Humphrey!
CG says
He endorsed and voted for Hillary too.
There’s an interesting tradition in NH. Remember when right-wing firebrand Bob Smith endorsed John Kerry in 2004?
