In Asking Hillary Clinton about Bernie Sanders one should NOT expect good tidings….
Hillary Clinton, who battled with Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont for months in a 2016 Democratic primary that sometimes turned contentious, ripped into her former campaign rival in a new documentary series and declined to say if she would endorse and campaign for him if he were to win the presidential nomination this time around.
“He was in Congress for years. He had one senator support him,” she said in a forthcoming four-part series, set to premiere at Sundance and air on Hulu beginning March 6. “Nobody likes him, nobody wants to work with him, he got nothing done. He was a career politician. It’s all just baloney and I feel so bad that people got sucked into it.”
Asked in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, published on Tuesday, if that assessment still held, she said, “Yes, it does.”
And in response to a question about whether she would endorse and campaign for Mr. Sanders if he were to get the nomination, she said: “I’m not going to go there yet. We’re still in a very vigorous primary season.”
The remarks suggest the wounds created four years ago remain fresh, with less than two weeks to go before the Iowa caucuses and as many Democrats are harboring renewed concerns about party unity.
…
Asked to weigh in on the Warren-Sanders dispute in the Hollywood Reporter interview, Mrs. Clinton called it “part of a pattern,” noting that Mr. Sanders had criticized her as being “unqualified” during the 2016 primary.
And she spoke of a “culture” around Mr. Sanders’s campaign she found troubling….

Clinton won’t commit to backing Sanders if he is the nominee
CG says
Of course he did back her when she was the nominee. She continues to publicly sport sour grapes in a way that no past defeated Democrat nominee in recent years ever has, at least since Al Smith turned on FDR. (We should remember that Mitt Romney publicly opposed Donald Trump after Trump became the GOP frontrunner.)
But if Sanders is the nominee, many, many voters who did vote for Hillary, will probably not vote for Sanders.
This is a festering and gathering problem for Democrats who want to make sure Donald Trump is defeated…. and it’s all on you. It has nothing to do with Republicans in this case.
CG says
Serious question..
Let’s say hypothetically Hillary called Klobuchar and said, “I want to come out and publicly endorse you and campaign for you side by side as soon as possible.”
How would Klobuchar respond to the offer?
jamesb says
I actually agree with ya CG….
My wife saw the Hillary piece and she STRONGLY supports Hillary’s feelings..
Scott P says
“It’s all on you”
And we’ll take care of it.
You worry about whether your wrire in candidate will get just your vote or your vote plus a few other purer than thou irrelevant voices.
We hace a Republic to save.no one said saving it wpukd be easy or wouldn’t get messy.
But either lead follow or get out of the way.
We know you are choosing get out of the way. So all of your “analysis” aside you are on the side of the road.
CG says
Actually Scott, even though I am not a Democrat, I have a plan to vote in the Democrat primary against Sanders, which will be me doing my part to prevent the easiest possible opponent for Donald Trump to be nominated (while also doing my part to keep a bone-chilling socialist like him out of the Presidency.)
You are still looking for the right candidate, over a year after all this started. That’s fine. But you seem to be ok with Sanders being the nominee then. Maybe Sanders will be whom you will eventually settle on.
Scott P says
I will support the Democratic nominee, whoever he or she is, but I will not be voting for Bernie Sanders in the primary.
For the record I think Hillary should have kept this to herself, but it’s also getting blown out of proportion.
Keith says
I disagree Scott, it was the perfect time for her to bring it up. She was telling the truth, making valid points.
But people are so anxious to blame the woman.

@hollyotterbein
Bernie Sanders releases a statement on Hillary Clinton’s comments: “My focus today is on a monumental moment in American history: the impeachment trial of Donald Trump. Together, we are going to go forward and defeat the most dangerous president in American history.”
CG says
I don’t know why Keith is saying that Zreebs is anxious to “blame the woman.”
I have no dog in the Clinton vs. Sanders fight, but I think Zreebs would feel the same way if Hillary were a male and Sanders were a female, etc.
I guess that kind of finger-pointing is just Keith’s “go to.”
Keith says
Ah, a Republican giving Democrats advice after their ridiculous primary battle of 2016 that ended with the nomination of the anti-Christ.
At least Bernie and Hillary didn’t have a dick size contest. Although I know she has bigger balls, I wish the Senate Republicans did.
Hillary said what the majority of the other Democrats running for President believe, especially those who serve in the Senate. As a result, she did them all a big favor, she put the issue on the table and she takes the heat.
Bernie once famously said that Hillary wasn’t qualified to be President, and then refused to take it back. Does she owe him her loyalty? I think not.
She told the truth. Bernie is very unpopular with his colleagues (the same people he will have to depend on if he is elected President), and (after 30 years) he hasn’t passed any major legislation.
These are facts.
Sorry if that bothers folks.
But of course, I will vote for Bernie and contribute to his campaign. It is a National imperative. Because as difficult as I believe Bernie can be, and self righteous, his Presidency would achieve one wonder and necessary thing, the removal of Donald Trump from office.
Zreebs says
It is not obvious to me at all that Hillary’s comments will hurt Sanders in the primary. And most independents don’t like Hillary, so it is not obvious that it will hurt him in the general election either.
Sanders is not depending on the Democratic establishment vote. Recall how all of the Republicans Attacking Trump appeared to help him win when McCain and Romney could not.
Tulsi Gabbard got a brief bump when Hillary went after her. We’ll see what happens with Bernie.
Keith says
Scott’s completely correct, when in doubt, deflect to Ted Kennedy fucking on the floor of a French Bistro (I love their onion soup) because he can’t defend his morally bankrupt party.
Ted Kennedy is dead now for over ten years, he’s met his maker if there is one. Trump, who many Republicans think is God, has at least 25 charges of sexual assault against him. He is the Republican nominee in 2020, the Democrats turned down Ted.
No comparison, but just like that accused rapist and admitted drunk Brett Kavanaugh, it’s do as I say…..
As far as I am concerned Trump is fucking the entire Republican Party on the floor of that bistro, and they like it.
CG says
There were multiple reports from the 1980s of a drunken Ted Kennedy engaging in inappropriate behavior while others were around.
A couple of those incidents involved him apparently having consensual sex on the floor of a restaurant or on a boat (where Sen. Howell Heflin was said to proclaim that Kennedy had changed his position on offshore drilling.) For these things alone, he should have been forced into rehab or retired by his state’s voters.
However, the specific incident referenced, in the restaurant, with Chris Dodd also being present, was absolutely not consensual. The victim stated as much and at least two people witnessed the attack. It was written about in detail many years ago and that was the source I referenced. It is shameful that Keith would try to conflate these stories from Kennedy’s past in order to excuse the behavior.
Scott P says
Yep. Keith xalled it. Deflect deflect. Not gonna defend what Ted Kennedy did in tbe 1980s
But why discuss it today? I could bring up stories I geard while interning in the Missouri capitol in the 1990s of how tben Sen and former Gov Kit Bond was known to play grab ass with local waitresses and allegedly bamged a few in hus office.
What does that have to do with the shit show in the Whote House now and how the Republucan Party is completely accepting of it. Save maybe a Senator or two. Maybe.
Scott P says
Sorry for the typos. Typing on a mobile device while on a shuttle bus.
jamesb says
I hear ya Scott….
The damn spell check sometimes IS a PAIN!
CG says
Why not go further than “not defending.” I will denounce all of it, regardless of party, as I did in regards to Trump a long time ago.
Let’s not pretend that tribalists of all stripes find a way to excuse what they want.
If you personally witnessed or believed Bond did these things, then you shouldn’t have voted for him in 2004, as you said you did.
jamesb says
I don’t think they like it ….
But he CAN and WIIL keep going….
Keith says
So all the Senate Republicans just voted with McConnell on admitting documents to the trial.
So, once again, condemning Trump is a useless gesture when you still support the members of a party that enables this pussy grabber and grifter thief.
Go on record all you like, but your only option to get him out of office is to vote for the Democrat, even if it is Bernie.
Or, you could continue to obsessively blame Ted Kennedy for all the ills in the world.
Scott P says
Yep. Thankfully the person CG will be voting for sees the big picture and will be spending money to defeat Senate Republicans.
CG says
Bloomberg has now been endorsed by Chicago Congressman Bobby Rush.
I really may need to re-think this one.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Couldn’t quite see Mayor Mike wearing a black beret and holding a rifle, CG ?
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Perhaps the Bloomberg platform is a combination of the Contract with America (1994) and the Ten Point Program of the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense (1966).
Maybe you could find the answer in Bloomberg BusinessWeek.
Scott P says
Yeah J knew any ‘”support” you gave to a Democrat would be short lived
Bobby Rush is the only person to defeat Barack Obama for an office.
Keith says
Forget about his subversive history. I hear Bobby Rush smokes marijuana and drives.
jamesb says
In the end?
They will follow like lemmings….
Democrats only satisfaction will be the grinding of Republican teeth as they give it up for a guy that pimped their party…
jamesb says
Update….
Hillary Clinton
@HillaryClinton
I thought everyone wanted my authentic, unvarnished views!
But to be serious, the number one priority for our country and world is retiring Trump, and, as I always have, I will do whatever I can to support our nominee.
Zreebs says
This is typical bullshit from someone who never deserved to be the nominee, and who – among other things – lined her pockets with outrageously paid speeches while she was already informally running for President. It was blatant corruption – even though Keith was quick to defend her by saying Guliani did the same thing.
Anyway, if Hillary dislikes Sanders that much – who campaigned almost as hard for her as she campaigned for herself, well, it just just makes me respect Sanders more. Hillary always was a slimeball – only exceeded by Trump – and she continues to prove it in her retirement.
CG says
*If* Sanders is nominated, “nobody likes him” will be oft repeated by Donald Trump. It’s not like Hillary can take it back at this point. If she does, she will look like Ted Cruz sucking up to Trump.
Supposedly, all the positive things she did say about Sanders in 2016 and how much she claimed to like and respect him then was just for show.
It’s going to be a nightmare for Democrats if Sanders is nominated and you all (most the older white males here at least) have to pretend like you either want him to be President or think he can win.
My Name Is Jack says
Who “chills your bones” more?
Sanders or Trump?
CG says
Can one “chill my bones” and can one “burn my britches?”
I think I’d make a good Southerner.
Keith says
Loyal Americans will vote strategically to remove this blight from office.,
CG says
Loyal Americans will vote or not vote based on their free will and the rights given to them under the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
Loyal Americans will vote against DJT and Loyal Americans will vote for him. You might enjoy living in Russia more with that mindset.
Zreebs says
I for one hope that the Sanders delegates will boo Hillary if she is invited to the convention to speak on behalf of another candidate.
CG says
OMG, what if they start chanting, “lock her up?”
Zreebs says
That won’t happen. Hillary may be slime, but there is little if any evidence to charge her with anything.
CG says
Some of those Bernie Bros are hardcore though. You are already encouraging them to boo her. That can get out of hand fast.
Scott P says
What do you think they are going to do? Grab he4 by the pussy? More of a Republican sanctioned activity.
CG says
Don’t be vulgar.
I think some Bernie Bros would chant “Lock Her Up.”
Now, if Bill speaks at the convention, there may be some more vulgar chants by them.
Scott P says
Afraid of a little Republican “locker room talk”?
CG says
I hope you don’t really define it that way.
Scott P says
Of course I don’t. I’m not a Trump Republican.
CG says
Well, I had to steps to clamp down your “locker room talk” years ago, but I assume you have grown from that point.
Scott P says
So now we’re going to discuss something I said on a blog in 2004.
Anything to deflect from Republicans complete capitulation to the Psychopath in Chief!
CG says
2009 actually. I said I gave you the benefit of the doubt.
Scott P says
Your obsession with utterances other bloggers made a decade plus ago is a little odd to say the least.
It’s pretty predictable when it will come out though.
Enjoy the rest of your day
Keith says
That’s not all he’s afraid of.
His party has married a pussy grabber, and he’s fucking it every day and night.
Oh, but Hillary.
Scott P says
Pussy gate did show the true character of Republican office holders though
They all went from condemning him to folding like cheap suits.
Sad.
CG says
Much of that to go around in both tribes. We saw on here how Keith took a narrative of Ted Kennedy committing a non-consensual sexual assault in which there were witnesses and blaming the victim for it.
jamesb says
Yo Z?
What happen to ur i support ALL Democrats?
HILLARY CLINTON IS a Democrat …
There is little chance that she will get booed in this years convention…
I predict she’ll get a standing and sustained ovation from the delegates ….
Heck?
She gets that NOW in public …
CG says
I predict neither she nor Bill will attend the convention.
My Name Is Jack says
I doubt they will.
Scott P says
I agree. The Obamas will be the alma mater stars of the convention. And the Republicans will boo. In fact we’ll probably see pretty offensive tweets from the White House or other Republicans.
CG says
If Bernie is nominated, I don’t know if the Obamas show up. (Unless there is a plan to steal the nomination for Michelle.)
And he isn’t said to be personally fond of Warren either. But yeah, they are more likely than the Clintons to make an appearance.
Observant Democrats know though that he has like a really horrible track record in helping anyone but himself get elected.
Zreebs says
Of course Obama will endorse Sanders if he is the nominee. It took him forever to endorse Hillary – after the election was largely won.
CG says
He’ll endorse whomever is nominated. But would he show up for the convention if it looks like the party rejected his counsel?
jamesb says
The Democratic party will go thru the contoursions the GOP went thru is somehow indie Sanders becomes the nominee…
It will NOT BE EASY to accept…
But this who line is a hypothetical …
I do NOT think Bernie will be the nominee and the polling (and my gut) up to now backs me up…
Zreebs says
If course he would
Democratic Socialist Dave says
How about AOC ?
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Clarification: I asked about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in response to CG’s assertion (at 4:42 pm) that Bernie Sanders (I assume) has “a really horrible track record” in supporting the election of anyone but himself.
CG says
No, speaking of Obama’s track record in supporting Democrat candidates.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Well, in 2010 (after only two Cong’l terms) we lost the House, and in 2014, we lost the Senate, which hardly suggests long positive Obama coat-tails.
But, in 2016, Hillary’s negative coat-tails (plus her bleeding DNC funds from down-ballot campaigns) might well be to blame for Democrats winning only two Republican Senate seats (Ill. & NH) when they had some chance of taking as many as five more (Mo., Wisc., Ind., Ohio & Pa).
On the other hand, while Al Gore was losing the Electoral College in 2000, the Democrats regained parity (50-50) in the Senate by picking up no fewer than six GOP seats.
But, in 2018, in the middle of what we all fervently hope will be Donald Trump’s only term in office, the Democrats did pick up two GOP seats (Ariz & Nev), but lost four more (ND, Mo, Fla & Ind), dropping their caucus from 49 to 47, instead of increasing their numbers.
Zreebs says
I said I will vote for the Democratic nominee for President. I still will do so – even if it is Hillary.
I have said here many times that I vote for more than one Republican almost every election.
I agree that most delegates will cheer Hillary.
Keith says
I too will vote for the Democratic nominee and max out no matter who it is.
It’s the duty of all patriotic Americans to remove the Trump scourge from our Nation.
The complicity of the Republicans today makes it clear that the Party of Lincoln has become the Party of Trump.
bdog says
I think things really boil down to often popularity contests…Hilary was never popular and that is largely because she doesn’t have a larger than life personality on the big stage. Sure she is accomplished, smart, hard nosed, great characteristics, but when your running for president people have to like you, she never had that.
I think she is seeing some of the same things in Bernie that people saw in her (with the exceptions of the political ideals), he has progressive/socialist views that seem equitable and fair, he works hard, he is a fighter, but his personality sucks. He comes off as a grumpy old man, and no body really likes that.
Biden comes off as an idiot at times and says stupid shit all the time, but we all do that so we tend to like a guy/gal that is more like us than the two mentioned above. Even Donald Crazy Ass Trump, despite being a complete Douche bag, he certainly spoke like a 5th grader and was able to connect with his base by speaking their language and rallying around (if in words only) their desires and beliefs. He is more likable to the people that are likely to vote for him than Democrats that had and have to vote for Clinton or Sanders.
Zreebs says
In terms of the likability of the Democratic candidates, I think all of them come across to me in some ways as likable. I disagree with bdog that “nobody” finds Sanders likable. I find him to be the most likable of all the candidates – even though I most likely won’t vote for him.
