She has been under pressure to do so from Republicans and Democrats in the US Senate…
Trump also wants the whole impeachment thing over….
Trump will NOT be convicted and lose his job…
He owns the US Senate jury…
Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced she will transmit the articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump next week, ending a heated standoff with Senate Republicans over the terms of the impeachment trial.
“I have asked Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler to be prepared to bring to the Floor next week a resolution to appoint managers and transmit articles of impeachment to the Senate,” Pelosi said in a letter to House Democrats.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell — having already secured GOP votes for his preferred trial framework — could start the impeachment trial shortly after he receives the articles.
Pelosi and Senate Democrats had sought to pressure Republicans into accepting new witnesses and evidence in a bid to ensure a fair trial, but they were rebuffed by McConnell….

My Name Is Jack says
Good ,let’s get this distraction over with.
jamesb says
Trump couldn’t agree with ya more Jack!
Keith says
You really think holding someone accountable is a waste of time.
We now know that Pelosi is forcing so-called moderate Republicans to pretend they want witnesses, those who haven’t spoken yet but have relevant information, to testify at a Senate trial. Pelosi has put these “profiles in courage” in a box. Why Susan Collins is even “concerned” again!
So the American people have a better understanding of what total fucking hypocrites the Republicans are as they have morphed into a cult.
Besides, it isn’t like the Senate was doing anything except approving unqualified judges.
I hope Nancy sends the Articles one at a time. That should frost the turtle’s balls.
jamesb says
I agree that Pelosi is RIGHT in dragging the trial out….
McConnell HAS had to wait for her…
More stuff comes out everyday….
We ALL KNOW the outcome nevertheless…
It’s about how much it hurts as u state …
My Name Is Jack says
Yes because he knows it’s over before it’s started.
The games rigged.
Humorously you admit it…
“Trump will not be convicted.”
Apparently you’re more interested in the “show.”
Enjoy.
I’ll be watching the 21,567th reruns of The Three Stooges.
CG says
Weren’t you a public defender? Would you refuse to show up to represent a client because it was “rigged?”
I don’t think we know what might happen in a Senate trial or what political impact it might have regarding witnesses, etc. I just know that the daily MSN tracking poll shows about 54-41 percent in favor of the Senate removing him.
Why shouldn’t any anti-Trump political junkie at least enjoy the “show?”
My Name Is Jack says
No I was a prosecutor.
To my knowledge I never participated in atrial that was “rigged.”
When I had a case that I was fairly certain wouldn’t fly with aJury,I dropped it and moved on .
That’s common at every level of courts.
CG says
Then you were a defense counsel for Moe, Larry, and Curly from time to time? Surely, you have seen things/results in a courtroom that surprised you.
My Name Is Jack says
Oh sure I have.
But I’ve never tried a case where over half the jury essentially announces ,before any evidence has been heard ,that they are going to vote to acquit.
Further ,if Mitch has his way ,and he likely will, there will be nothing more than some recitation of what’s already known ,then quick vote.
CG says
Apparently, that’s how the OJ jury felt going into the trial. The Prosecutors still had a job to do.
I think it’s up in the air if Bolton testifies, etc. Who knows what might happen. There is of course the public watching. Shouldn’t this be an opportunity for some Democrat House member serving as an impeachment manager to make a name for himself or herself?
jamesb says
Bolton won’t show up I’d think….
If the GOPer’s ok him ?
Dem’s can question him also….
My Name Is Jack says
Those polls are highly suspect.
Explain to me why these polls are showing that 54% supposedly want him “removed” yet the presidential race is considered a “tossup” by most.
CG says
Those same polls also daily track the Presidential race.
They tend to get a result showing the Democrat at 49, Trump at 41, and “other” at 10.
Trump is in serious political trouble. Democrats need to play their political cards right. The impeachment trial is almost a gimme for them though, There’s not much that can hurt them. They just get to watch Trump stew publicly. Picking a strong (if not merely non-toxic candidate) should be their main concern.
CG says
And of course people consider the Presidential race a toss-up precisely for the last thing I mentioned
There is no General Eric Democrat that is going to come in to the rescue.
You have a limited group of people to choose from.
Frankly, the bench should be bigger, There could have been at least one “purple state” Governor with a record of success somewhere between age 45-65 that was there. But Democrats spent nearly a decade on the Barack Obama Cult of Personality Tour and the “farm team” withered to a tremendous extent.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
(1) Tim Kaine fit the bill for a middle-aged Governor of a purple state, but I couldn’t discern a single thing he added to the Clinton-Kaine campaign.
On the other hand, he was an able Governor and has been a valuable U.S. Senator.
(1) As I’ve said many time before, I wish Amy Klobuchar were doing better, not because our views coincide, but because she is responsive to the issues that progressives raise. Plus she seems as level-headed and capable as any of the other candidates (e.g. Joe Biden); i.e. the direct opposite of Donald Trump’s foreign policy by tantrum.
CG says
Kaine was a dud nationally.
Ironically of course, much has been written about Klobuchar’s “temper” behind closed doors and how high her staff turnover has been and some very specific ugly incidents.
jamesb says
U guys are right
Kaine was a nothing burger….
Keith says
Once again I see Dave was uninspired. Poor guy. Waiting for those on the white horse. Good luck!
Do you really prefer a homophobic religious freak who won’t be alone with an unmarried woman.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Tell me, Keith, instead of your tiresomely spiteful sniping [some might even dare to call it whining], what exactly did Tim Kaine contribute to the Clinton-Kaine campaign in the fall of 2016 ?
It’s certainly quite possible that you discerned something that I (and CG & James) didn’t.
That was my only point when CG suggested that what the Democrats need is the governor of a purple state between the ages of 45 and 65.
Zreebs says
I think that Kaine was a fine choice. He made Virginia clearly in the D column. What more could you want?
Also do you really want the VP nominee to be more dynamic than the Presidential nominee?
jamesb says
Kaine was a nothing choice….
He b brought little to the ticket….
CG says
Kaine was Hillary’s most reasonable choice when she made it. It looked like she would win easily. Virginia was going to go Democrat one way or another.
However, a VP nominee just has a few moments in the spotlight. Nobody remembers a thing Kaine said at the convention, even when there were many other headlines made by others at the convention.
In the VP debate, Kaine lost to Pence. That was his one chance. He lost on style and on substanec, when all he really had to do was effectively prosecute Trump, he failed. Pence hemmed and hawed and still won that debate in the eyes of those who watched it.
I am sure Kaine campaigned hard, likely harder than Hillary herself, but made virtually no news, (one way or another)
In retrospect, considering Hillary’s problems in Ohio and with Sanders’ voters, she would have been better off picking Sherrod Brown.
jamesb says
I stand by my full of shit view….
Tim Kaine was a nothing burger….
I’m NOT saying he didn’t support Hillary or the party….
He was just ‘there’….
Keith says
James is so full of shit on this one.
Tim Kaine, Governor and Senator from a purple state. Catholic white male who speaks fluent Spanish. I agree with Zreebs.
My Name Is Jack says
Really, reading your comments here one would find that the following candidates have “serious problems:”
Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Pete Buttigieg.
In other words all the likely possible Democratic nominees
My Name Is Jack says
Accordingly, how is Trump in “serious trouble.”
Apparently ,according to you,All the potential candidates have “serious problems.”
CG says
They do. Some more more than others. Also having serious problems though is DJT and certainly in theory, the race should be a referendum on the incumbent.
If that does not wind up being the case, it is because the opposition completely and utterly failed (see Corbyn, Jeremy.)
My Name Is Jack says
So Trump is in no more “serious trouble” than any of his possible opponents ,right?
So supposedly 54% of the voters want him removed from office, yet a number of those who “want” him removed? Will vote ro ReElect him.
I see I see,
CG says
I don’t think Trump’s most attuned political fans expect him to get much more than the 46% he got last time.
So yes, roughly 54% (which this poll shows want him removed) will vote against him.
Can you guys figure out how to win the swing states? At the minimum, I think you learned the lesson of Hillary skipping even showing up places.
jamesb says
Trump it would seem is gonna try re-run the 2016 election….
Immigration, Lies, Play to HIS people…ATTACK…ATTACK!
CG says
FWIW, I think Bloomberg, Klobuchar, and Michelle Obama may at least be slightly more likely than Mayor Pete to be nominated.
My Name Is Jack says
Klobuchar in my view might actually be the best GE candidate.
Too bad she has little chance at the nomination.
I am considering voting for her in the S.C. primary if she’s still a viable candidate at that time, which I doubt she will be,
CG says
Oprah would be the strongest, but she isn’t running.
jamesb says
Oprah ain’t gonna go thru the political grinder a politican HAS to …
jamesb says
CG?
Ya gotta stop trippin….
The race is between Bernie and Biden….
jamesb says
The margin u quote is for Biden….
Others generally beat Trump . but not as much as Biden and not by the same margin….
According to the polls?
Biden IS the most electable…
Democrats want Trump OUT…
THAT is their main ideology
My Name Is Jack says
And since professional Wrestling comparisons are frequently used here, this impeachment “trial” is right up the alley.
“A predetermined quasi judicial proceeding complete with the accoutrements of a “real” trial ,except that the result is already known to the participants, the commentators and the audience.”
CG says
….”and which might greatly impact a Presidential election….”
My Name Is Jack says
I don’t think it’s going to have very little impact on the election or certainly no more than any number of issues surrounding Trump.
Indeed ,since it looks like it will all be over within the next two weeks or so, that leaves almost ten months between his acquittal and the election.
This whole thing will be old hat by then and ,with Trump in particular ,scores of other matters will have much more of an effect,
CG says
Democrats should be able to make a moral stand of right vs. wrong to the nation regardless of the outcome of the trial showing the seriousness of what Trump did wrong, yet they seem uncomfortable speaking in moral certitudes (perhaps due to past experiences, perhaps because they don’t really want the Hunter Biden angle to be thought about too much, etc. etc). So here we are, where Americans have grown accustomed to Presidential sleaze.
My Name Is Jack says
They’ve already presented what Trumpdid “wrong.”
It’s already known.
This show will merely be a recitation of what has already been presented in the House hearings.
Mitch isn’t going to allow anything else.
So what exactly do you mean by all this?
CG says
Recitation is an important part of politics. I know you are cynical about the whole aspect for “history” and “future generations.” Too maudlin for you etc.
The bottom line is that the Democrat House members are, if nothing else, going to get to give very long speeches and Democrat Senators will get to help by throwing them fastballs down the middle.
Then, your side can go to the cameras and complain about how unfair and rigged it all is and a bunch of people will probably agree with it and will be motivated to get their chance to vote out Trump.
My Name Is Jack says
Gee insulting me.
Aren’t you the one always complaining about “insults.”
No the people who would be so influenced by that already oppose Trump. No one in my view who supports Trump or is even on the fence is going to be influenced by “long speeches” and posturing before the cameras.
They’ve already heard everything in the hearings.
CG says
I didn’t consider it an insult. Am I off base though?
CG says
As I said, play to the anti-Trump base then. This might all have an impact on the election.
I actually happen to think though that those who excuse Trump now should one day have to answer questions from their children and grandchildren.
CG says
I barely remember anything “live” from the Clinton impeachment trail in the Senate. I definitely did not skip class to watch it anymore than I am going to skip work to watch Trump.
I just remember seeing the ending portion of the roll call vote on Clinton from my university’s Student Center. People were sitting around and watching pretty quietly. Nobody reacted one way or another when it was over.
Zreebs says
But don’t you sometimes “skip work” to post on pdog?
Keith says
I don’t Corey thinks sitting at his desk blogging all day is skipping work. After all, he is sitting at his desk right?
Now we all know what he thinks of me sitting at my desk blogging. I should have been fired! Because I said something uncomplimentary about Mary Peters.
CG says
One was posting while being paid by taxpayers, one is not.
And we both know the stuff you were posting would not be something you would have been willing to admit to.
Keith says
LOL, really.
This is funny, but also boring.
We have someone who frequently spends his entire day blogging while at work, not just on this page but other blogs. Who complains about being bored at work. And yet he feels free to criticize others for what he does daily.
I got promoted by my Republican boss while I was being critical of an inept Department Secretary, and my boss was very familiar with both my political views and my opinion of his boss.
Sorry Corey, perhaps you need to find a more interesting job.
My Name Is Jack says
Then there’s the possibility that Republicans will short circuit the whole thing by literally voting to acquit before anything is even heard.
A gambit that’s still actively being considered apparently.
If that happens it will be a very short “show.”
CG says
1. I doubt that will happen
2. Use that politically against them though
3. Some Republican Senators would almost certainly vote against that
