Donald J Trump IS a serial liar…
Robert Mueller first proved it…
The House impeachment just confirms it….
His efforts to cover up the truth by withholding witnesses for the House and maybe the Senate hasn’t worked…
The guy lies so much to so many people, it’s chinch that there will be more people stepping up to reveal the truth against Trump’s lies….And this is gonna go for a LONG time with as much as this guy does wrong and tries to keep secret….
The Senate impeachment trial of Donald Trump will be resolved in the next week or so; the president will claim vindication and that it’s all over.
He’s only half right.
He will be officially acquitted on a largely partisan vote, but the issue and investigations of Trump’s misconduct won’t be over. There will be more House inquiries into new revelations on the Trump-Ukraine scandal, perhaps even Robert Mueller‘s special counsel probe, the president’s potential financial conflicts of interest — and likely new lawsuits.
What the Senate does — or doesn’t do — in the days ahead will shape these events. If the Republicans are seen just trying to protect Trump, it won’t change the outcome but will ease the case for more wide-ranging subsequent investigations.
The greatest reality may be that any look at the Trump presidency suggests there will be more revelations, probably damaging to Trump. And this president will commit more controversial acts.
Some Republicans privately acknowledge they are worried that, after acquitting the president, they will be embarrassed by further disclosures.
A pointed reminder: It was only the middle of this month that Lev Parnas — one of the shady associates of presidential consigliere Rudy Giuliani‘s attempt to pressure the Ukrainians to dish dirt on Democratic presidential candidate and former Vice President Joe Biden — went public declaring that Trump knew “exactly what was going on.”
There will be the normal oversight activities in the House, scrutinizing ethical transgressions in the administration, high drug prices and the Commerce Department’s ill-prepared census operation, among others.
But Trump scandals will be front and center too. If the Senate limits any further testimony or material relating to the Ukrainian episode, House investigators will jump in when the trial is over…..
CG says
Trump being a serial liar was proved far before Mueller.
One of our issues is that people just don’t care if the President is a serial liar. The stock market is more important. We heard that in the not so distant past too about a different President.
My Name Is Jack says
You just made the case for why this so called “bombshell” Re Bolton won’t matter.
Trumps supporters ,ie, 90% of Republicans don’t care that he’s a liar .
So Bolton testifies? What difference will it make?Oh maybe one or two Republicans will vote to convict.Nice question on a Jeopardy episode circa 2050 or so.
Trump will be acquired and the effect on his reelection?Nada.
CG says
So, you do realize the SOTU is a week from tomorrow, right?
You want it all over by then, so he can declare victory in that format?
Or might it be worse politically for him for the trial to still be ongoing with questions remaining?
This thing continues to be unpredictable. Take it one “battle” at a time before you write the definitive history of the “war.”
My Name Is Jack says
There’s nothing at all “ unpredictable “ about it.
Nothing has changed at all.
Susan Collins in “concerned” Lisa Murkowski is “curious.
Mitt Romney wants witnesses, wee maybe
And the Rep Senators are going to vote to acquit him.You know it.I know it.We all know it.
That’s all that matters.
Republicans will still overwhelmingly support him.
Where is the “unpredictability?”
CG says
Get the witnesses up there, let’s see what unpredictable things they have to say, let’s see how the public reacts, let’s see how the actual Senate vote can be used to mobilize votes in the 2020 general election.
These are all quite simple concepts.
It is beyond common sense to realize (while I understand it is a tougher situation for Sanders, Warren, Klobuchar, and Bennet), that Democrats should want this trial to last every day possible, every hour possible…
My Name Is Jack says
It’s beyond “common sense” that anyone in their right mind would support Trump.
Your fanciful idea that simple repetition of the known facts by various people will somehow change the minds of such obvious “see no evil in Trump “type people is just that.
CG says
You need this stuff repeated as much as possible. People need to hear it over and over again. At any given time, the average person might not even be listening. You will be fortunate to get them to listen once or twice.
You can be damn sure that Trump and his people will be repeating the flaws and faults of your eventual candidate at every possible time without a second thought.
My Name Is Jack says
Malarkey.
The people who don’t know all this stuff are the same people who won’t vote anyway.
You’ve already said it.
Trumps supporters don’t care that he’s a liar.
Neither do the Republican Senators.
That’s it in a nutshell.
CG says
You simply don’t get it.
In politics, you need to repeat things over and over and over again until it becomes engrained in someone’s mind. Trump knows this. That is a big part of how he won.
We are talking about swing voters. You are hung up over die-hard Republicans, who ultimately matter very little in this election, just because you have been railing against die-hard Republicans for over 50 years.
Times have changed. Adapt or die (politically.)
jamesb says
The repeating things over and OVER actually WORKS. for Trump,…
and has actually had a affect on the GOPer’s who now won’t challenge the fact that Trump lies and breaks norms and laws …
jamesb says
And I also agree with CG on the repeating of the lies and subterfuge as a bonus for DEMOCRATIC get out the vote efforts….
jamesb says
I’m with Jack on the outcome….
Aquital….
But it’s gonna drag on….
My Name Is Jack says
And who cares about the SOTU?
Of course Trump is going to ballyhoo his acquittal. What difference does the forum make?
CG says
Partisan junkies, etc, care about the SOTU and the theatrics and the optics and whatnot.
But I know, you never watch them. You never watch the debates. You never watch the conventions. You just talk about all of them online. Perhaps you are watching rasslin’.
My Name Is Jack says
I read the accounts.
Why waste time “watching “ them?
I’m not a”junkie” like you.
Get help.Its available.
CG says
It makes no sense why you can say you care about politics but take glee in avoiding watching the actual events (SOTU, debates, conventions, tv ads, stump speeches, etc)
I actually think you watch them all but don’t want to admit it.
If it is truly “not your thing” then why are you here, and why would you look down upon others who feel differently.
My Name Is Jack says
Oh quit pouting !
Im not looking “down” on anyone.
I just disagree.
You seem to have a hard time with that.
Interestingly you’re the one that brought up me not watching those “events.”
Then you make up some garbage that because I don’t I’m looking “down” on people.
CG says
Why are you making fun of “junkies.”
I guarantee that every other person who posts here, regardless of how much we disagree on issues or otherwise dislike each other, thinks these things matter and understands how the impeachment of Trump plays into the “long game” for 2020 and also understands why it is important to repeat talking points as much as possible in order to win.
My Name Is Jack says
You’re the one that referred to “junkies.”
I was just poking fun at your description.
You’re in a particularly manic mood this afternoon.
Lighten up.
This impeachment thing will be over soon and we will all look forward to your “analysis “ of how it will be all the Democrats fault.
Indeed you probably have the storyline percolating as we post!
CG says
It makes zero sense to want it over soon. At the *minimum* you want it going on next Tuesday night when the SOTU happens.
I would like to see you explain your “this is all bs and none of this matters” directly to Mrs. Pelosi and Mr. Schumer.
I am guessing if you were face to face with them, you would take a different tact.
jamesb says
Trump wants it over yesterday so he can fuck over some more people and countries
jamesb says
We here ARE political junkies
Wear it proudly….
We have people who come to us for info and options and opinions ….
My Name Is Jack says
You almost daily disagree with “every other person” that posts here.
So I’m in good company.
Right?
CG says
and sometimes I agree with you. Sometimes I agree with others.
Often, we *all* disagree with james.
I think this is one specific matter where we all would disagree with you. (though some will be pained to admit they agree with me.)
My Name Is Jack says
And sometime I disagree with everyone.
So?
You do more often than me.
Once again.
So?
You’re really grasping at straws here.
I don’t care if everyone “disagrees” with me,but since this is apparently a big deal to you?
I’ll remind you the next time here everyone disagrees with you!
Like that matters.
jamesb says
Shit CG?
Jack’s been disagreeing with me for over a decade….
We Good….
CG says
People disagree with me on policy matters or who I want to win various elections, etc.. I don’t think anyone is actually going to claim that I don’t understand how politics works.
Repetition and staying on message is key to politics.
The Democrats have adapted a message on Trump and they need to stick to it.
Every day that Trump remains under impeachment is a bad day for Trump and by effect, a good day for Democrats.
I simply cannot understand why anyone who claims to understand politics would disagree with the above paragraph.
jamesb says
I would think one would get more here with disagreements and challenges then over at HHR where everyone is saying the same damn thing oblivious to the REAL world….
jamesb says
Heck….
The ones that came here couldn’t take it and ran back to the hive….
My Name Is Jack says
Yeah I think most people here know that I don’t “understand “ politics because I disagree with you.
CG says
Where is the evidence for your theory that Democrats would be better off the sooner Trump gets acquitted?
I just don’t see how you come to that conclusion.
But feel free to make a case.
CG says
No, one person came here and couldn’t handle the technical glitches that were prevalent on the site. The sad fact remains that this site is still very user-unfriendly.
But yeah, he specifically would prefer the other place, even though he isn’t very liked there at all.
(everyone there is always fighting with each other, even if they all are genuflecting to Trump.)
jamesb says
NYCMike hung out for while….
Before him was a posse of guys….
They ALL bailed ….
They are NOT. like U CG….
You CAN take the heat ….
CG says
No, there were two people who came over and for some dumb reason pretended to do parodies of being liberals instead of engaging in an actual back and forth.
Then they saw how sparse the crowd was here and figured it was not worth it.
jamesb says
I’ll bet they STILL wouldn’t be able to handle things here like U….
CG says
I might be a masochist.
jamesb says
We appreciate ur being here to make things interesting …
We ALL learn from the conflict…
The HHR people seem to note want to be challenged….
It’s THEIR loss…
Zreebs says
If Jack says he doesn’t watch debates, then I believe him. Watching a debate is largely a solitary activity. You can’t discuss comments without missing what other people are saying. In contrast, blogging has a social component. And blogging involves persuading others. So it is not irrational to like to blog, but not like to listen to a debate.
I have no reason to believe that any of us lie about our personal habits or our social or business life.
jamesb says
I HATE watching debates….
The last few I live blogged from the 538 feed mostly….
To me?
They serve little purpose…
I was on the debate team back in grade school though…
Zreebs says
Debates serve to explain the differences between the candidates. If you listen closely, they are very helpful. But you like to blog when listening, so I don’t see how you would get much out of them.
My Name Is Jack says
I have explained my position re debates several occasions.
I would likely watch debates if they were like the Kennedy Nixon ones .
Modern debates are more about reality television complete with an audience to ooh and ahh and most of the questions are more of the “gotcha” variety than intended to elicit thought out positions.
Others like them.Fine with me.Its just my personal preference.
CG likes to vent at me when I start contradicting him and as the discussion gets more and more heated ,as happened yesterday declared essentially that I didn’t “get” politics.
Apparently ,in his eyes, those who disagree with him?Dont “get” politics based on his definition thereof.
Donald Trump taking over the Republican Party and his personal dealing with that reality has driven him to a host of rash statements, perhaps understandably.
Zreebs says
I like debates – although I no longer look forward to them like I once did.
It should be obvious that “liking politics” means totally different things to different people – including on this blog. For example, DSD likes to present historical perspectives, whereas anything that happened more than 40 years ago is close to totally irrelevant to me. Some of us, including me, like discussing what government policy should be, while James in particular gets annoyed with such discussions and seems to only care about what is possible in the short term. CG might care about which party wins a mayorial election in a large city, while some of us could care less. In short, politics means different things to different people – and there is no right way to “get” politics. Isn’t that obvious?
jamesb says
Thanks for the overview Z…..
My Name Is Jack says
Why not admit that such is the reason you’re salivating over this “impeachment” show?
You’re a “junkie” and it’s your fix.”
For some reason it annoys you that others don’t share your disease.
CG says
To whatever extent I am “salivating” and I don’t think I actually am, it is because I want to see Donald Trump rightfully suffer politically from this process to every possible extent possible.
You want to give him a pass.
My Name Is Jack says
Another falsehood.
jamesb says
Again?
WTF remembers a STOU?
CG says
Lots of people. Of course especially in the short-term.
This one has the potential to be very politically risky for Trump if he goes on a rant about impeachment while still unable to gloat about a victory. He may not be able to help himself.
jamesb says
CG?
Donald doesn’t know how to stop lying and gloating….
He’s his OWN worst enemy…
Scott P says
I agree with CG that if Trump has to give the SOTU while the trial is going on it will not be pretty for him
jamesb says
He will attack the Dem’s
Remember he has no bounds
He operates in a Alternate Universe
Democratic Socialist Dave says
The President of the United States living in an alternate universe (… as you hear Rod Serling say, “a dimension not of sight or of sound but of mind…You are entering the Trumplight Zone) and denying uncomfortable realities is quite bad enough, but then he is able to transfer his false reality to 70 million followers on Twitter.
When real reality is inconvenient, awkward, unwelcome or embarrassing it’s just Fake News.
Where are Galileo, Copernicus and Newton when we really need them? Lamarck and geocentrism are so much more convincing.
jamesb says
And co-op a Political party…..
jamesb says
As the post headline says….
This ain’t gonna be over when the trial is over….
Republican lawmakers are gonna have to carry Trump on their backs up to the election….
Good for the ones in strong Trump states/districts
NOIT so good for those in contested places…
CG says
I will also say it is increasingly likely that once the eventual “acquittal” happens. there will be much talk as to if there are 51 votes for a Censure in the Senate. I think there very well might be.
My Name Is Jack says
That could happen.
CG says
Every poll has shown that the public is strongly in favor of witnesses and “new evidence” in the Senate trial. Yet, the Republicans are fighting it. They are on the wrong side of the public. Of course it makes sense for Democrats to push back against them.
This Bolton news now is pretty big. It is only going to increase the pressure to hear from him and the “new evidence.” This will be seen in the polls in a few days. Initially, it will be competing with the Kobe news, which will be the biggest story in the country for at least the next two days. (Bad timing for Trump’s defense team.)
Any bit of additional erosion in public opinion against Trump will make it more likely to lead to witnesses, which then *could* have it’s own effect and it could all gain momentum very quickly which would lead to a Censure (which is certainly something that would anger Trump and make him look bad) or if the momentum from testimony and new evidence becomes even stronger than we anticipate, conviction.
Scott P says
Question. What does HHR stand for?
CG says
Hedgehog Report
(No, I have no idea why)
It’s been around since 2004. The guy who runs the site is a moderate NeverTrump Republican who never posts at all in the comments and simply presents polls. I doubt he even reads comments.
Scott P says
Gotcha, Thanks!
CG says
The narrative now from the Trump people are that the attorneys are going after Biden and it is his “worst nightmare” and that Biden’s “whole world is crumbling by the moment” and things like that.
Whatever is happening, somehow I think Biden has been through worse.
jamesb says
Yes he has….
I would assume these Biden throw downs will help Biden’s fundraising and support….
Of course it doesn’t address the case presented….
Any place else would have had him convinced
CG says
None of this has really helped Biden the way it could have though in regards to his fundraising.
The fact that he is bringing in so much less money than some primary opponents and drawing such smaller crowds should be a red flag.
jamesb says
First?
Biden doesn’t need the same amount of money as the others…
He was the VP to Obama for 8 years ….
Second?
His fundraising HAS improved
CG says
He needs the money more because he has a larger infastructure, etc.
As the establishment candidate, he’s not going to get the volume of volunteers that others will.
I’ve often compared him to Romney in 2012 primaries, but there was never any doubt back then that whatever happened Romney had the money to outlast anyone else in a long-slog.
CG says
It was cited here that a poll (which shows Trump at 44% overall) had him at 92% among Republicans. Apparently though, the same poll has him at 35% among African Americans and Latinos.
Does anyone believe it would be that high?
It just might be that when you have small subsets in one particular poll (such as African Americans, Latinos or “Republicans” the MOE is several points higher.)
jamesb says
I agree….
The same person also did not acknowledge that Trump was down to the low 80’s for awhile…
and was EXPECTED to gain numbers in the situation he’s in NOW…
One would expect his numbers to drop after the trial…
