This is NOT a good look in my mind…..
And it appears he will NOT do this….
Such a move while appealing to the media ?
Would politically kneecap him from the day he was sworn in….
He’s in first place , age known and all….
Leave that alone and run….
Sanders is a year older then him at 78 ….Trump is 73….Warren is 70…..Pelosi is 79….
Just run Joe….
Former Vice President Joe Biden’s top advisers and prominent Democrats outside the Biden campaign have recently revived a long-running debate whether Biden should publicly pledge to serve only one term, with Biden himself signaling to aides that he would serve only a single term.
While the option of making a public pledge remains available, Biden has for now settled on an alternative strategy: quietly indicating that he will almost certainly not run for a second term while declining to make a promise that he and his advisers fear could turn him into a lame duck and sap him of his political capital.
…
…for now, Biden remains the favorite, a fact that even the online betting markets, which were wildly bullish on Warren from September through November, now acknowledge.
And so the question of how to address Biden’s age, which may be the candidate’s most significant liability, and the related question of the lack of enthusiasm for Biden’s candidacy among the activist wing of their party, has once again seized Democrats.
A top Biden adviser said Biden ruled out a one-term pledge when the issue was raised before he even entered the race. “He said it was a nonstarter,” the adviser said, adding that Biden believed it was a “gimmick.”
But Biden’s public statements on running for reelection have shifted over the course of the campaign.
In April, when asked whether he would serve just one term, Biden responded, “No.” More recently, Biden has been ambiguous. In October, The Associated Press reported that when “asked whether he would pledge to only serve one term if elected, Biden said he wouldn’t make such a promise but noted he wasn’t necessarily committed to seeking a second term if elected in 2020.”…
Note….
It would appear some in the media are so opposed to Biden that they would raise this issue ONLY with him and skip over the others who are close , or even older then him….
Update…
Joe Biden told Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) that he would “serve two terms, if necessary” in response to a Politico article suggesting the former vice president signaled he would only serve a single term if elected president, CNN’s Ali Zaslav said Wednesday….
…
Responding to Politico’s reporting, Kate Bedingfield, Biden’s deputy campaign manager tweeted Wednesday: “Lots of chatter out there on this so just want to be crystal clear: this is not a conversation our campaign is having and not something VP Biden is thinking about.”

While I agree that making s commitment to do so as part of the campaign would not be wise, as a practical matter, I think most people will believe that Biden would be a one termer.
jamesb says
Maybe…
But he simply CANNOT run with this hanging over his head…
The question is unfair considering the age of the others I have pointed out….
jamesb says
Unfair?
Did I just say unfair?
Lots of stuff ain’t ‘fair’, eh?
Zreebs says
I don’t think the other candidates (with the possible exception of Trump) have shown any noticeable age-related decline in their mental capabilities.
jamesb says
Agreed Z
My Name Is Jack says
I interpreted Zreebs remark as indicating his belief that Biden may have an age related decline in his mental abilities.
You “agree” with that?
jamesb says
You KNOW i don’t see that part of his comment as right….
My Name Is Jack says
Then what was it you were “agreeing” with?
jamesb says
The age comment….
My Name Is Jack says
Uh yeah ok.
Why can’t you just admit that you didn’t understand his comment?
jamesb says
Actually I did…..

I think Ross Perot said he would only serve one term. I think Biden having an unspoken understanding that he won’t run again would be sufficient.
If I recall Ross Perot saud he would only serve one term.
And while Trump didn’t make a similar promise I know a lot of his u dependent voters either thought he did or said they would only be on board for one Trump term.
Part of why I think Trump’s independent appeal is more limited in 2020 than it was in 2016.
jamesb says
Unspoken is fine….
Means he CAN go for a second term if things are go and doesn’t kneecap himself for 4 years ….
Scott P says
*If* he gets to the White House I would prefer thar an 82 yr old Biden not seek a 2md term..
I would say the same thing about an 83 yr old Bernie Sanders.
Zreebs says
While Sanders appears to have good health, his age should be a factor to consider.
jamesb says
U guys are the first to mention Sanders age…
Sanders health was an issue immediately after the heart attack….
Not anymore…
Hillary had a health issue….
it didn’t really affect her run…
Trump seems to have mind and body issues and THAT doesn’t count, eh?
(latest i heard is about Trump signing some agreement at the NATO get together in the wrong place while others looked on shaking their heads)
Zreebs says
I think that Hillary’s health issue did cost her votes, although I doubt it cost her the election.
jamesb says
I agree ….
It was not a deciding factor…
Zreebs says
Sanders age was an issue 4 years ago. You just forgot. When Sanders was asked the question as to whether he would run a second term, he responded that he would not run a second term if his health took a downturn.
It is too tempting to ignore age as an issue when you see the candidate appear healthy onstage, but the odds that someone in their 70s will have health issues is quite high. We (including me) have to continually remind ourselves this.
The irony of course is that age discrimination is rampant in the private sector workplace – in spite of laws that outlaw it. Some employers won’t even consider a worker over 60. Yet we will consider someone over 75 for President?
Zreebs says
And there is a real chance that some of the older Democratic candidates might get very sick after they are nominated- and that would be a disaster.
jamesb says
Yes an ADMITTED health issue for an American President WOULD lead to a BIG media situation….
Keith says
Such a badly run campaign, Hillary got pneumonia, how could she?!!
Of course the media showed the pictures of her leaving the 9/11 event and stumbling on a loop.
If anyone thinks that the fact Sanders at 78 had a heart attack would not be a major factor if he becomes the nominee you’re crazy.
Fox News would start with several specials on heart attacks over 70 and then Trump’s doctors would announce him to be the healthiest President in history.
They would destroy Bernie over this issue alone, and every Republican would sing the same song. Anyone who has watched the impeachment hearings understands that.
jamesb says
Oh I agree Keith….
But the media wants a progressive so bad they’ve forgotten or forgiven anything negative with Bernie…
I think the age issue is a nothing Berger….
(To his credit he seems fine after a heart attack…Trump on the other hand has been reported to be unfocused, short attention span, and in another reality…No one REALLY knows what the guy was hustled to the hospital recently either)
The person that’s seems to be the BEST at governing?
Nancy Pelosi is 79….
Zreebs says
Bloomberg turns 78 in February.
