The current FBI Director Chris Wray has now come to the defense of his agency against Trump 2016 campaign Russia investigation charges….
Donald Trump is not happy with the finding which seems to have deep sixed AG Barr’s try to run his own Trump support probe of the FBI by US Atty Durham….
Ex-FBI Dir. James Comey got fired for NOT supporting Trump….
FBI Director Christopher Wray on Monday undercut a theory pushed by President Donald Trump and some of his Republican allies that the government of Ukraine meddled in the 2016 election.
“We have no information that indicates that Ukraine interfered with the 2016 presidential election,” Wray told ABC News in an exclusive broadcast interview on Monday….
President Trump in an early morning tweet on Tuesday criticized FBI Director Christopher Wray, disagreeing with his characterization of a newly released Justice Department inspector general report.
“I don’t know what report current Director of the FBI Christopher Wray was reading, but it sure wasn’t the one given to me,” Trump said, a day after the report’s release.
“With that kind of attitude, he will never be able to fix the FBI, which is badly broken despite having some of the greatest men & women working there!” Trump added.

Barr Carrying the water for Trump…..
Attorney General William Barr dismissed the findings of the Justice Department’s inspector general in an interview with NBC News, saying that his hand-picked prosecutor, John Durham, will have the last word on the matter.
Said Barr: “I think our nation was turned on its head for three years based on a completely bogus narrative that was largely fanned and hyped by a completely irresponsible press. I think there were gross abuses…and inexplicable behavior that is intolerable in the FBI.”

In today’s Republican Party “looney” is a positive of course.

People like Jeanne Porto are more much more prominent in the GOP in 2019 than the Bushes.
To the chagrin of Republicans like CG.

Oh definitely.
Get a room full of Republicans today and there would be boos for GWB from a lot of attendees.Pirro would get nothing but cheers.

After then-FBI Director L. Patrick Gray took literally and acted upon Richard Nixon’s remark about throwing documents off a bridge into the Potomac, and after the decades-long autocracy of J. Edgar Hoover, Congress took significant steps towards insulating the FBI from exactly the kind of pressure that Donald Trump is now exerting. For example, the Director was given a ten-year term so that he (or she) would serve more than one President (which is how Louis Freeh served under both Clinton & G.W. Bush and Robert Mueller served under both Geo. W. Bush & Obama).
There are other protections that Trump can more easily work around (e.g. directing Jeff Session to fire James Comey) but I don’t know the details.

No matter WHAT Congress says?
The Justice Dept. IS part of the executive branch …..
It’s members serve at the pleasure of the President….
Comey had a ten year term….
It didn’t matter…
If Trump wants Wray’s job?
Barr WILL fire him….
jamesb says
Ouch?
Durham and Barr’s finding are now essentially no good….
Any conclusion they offer will be counterbalanced by IG Horowitz’s report and testimony…
FBI Dir Wray is also embracing the IG’s report and has made 40 changes in FBI ops to address the IG’s recommendations …
Trump loses another one and Barr looks like heel….
There are reports that Durham actually agrees with most of the IG findings…
Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz said Wednesday that a senior prosecutor failed to convince him that the FBI’s 2016 investigation of President Trump’s campaign was improperly opened, revealing new details about internal tension among senior officials over the politically explosive case.
At a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, Horowitz was asked by the panel’s senior Democrat, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (Calif.), if Attorney General William P. Barr or his hand-picked prosecutor on the issue, Connecticut U.S. Attorney John Durham, offered anything to change the inspector general’s view that the FBI had a valid reason to open the probe in July 2016.
“No, we stand by our finding,” said Horowitz, who said he met in November with Durham to discuss the findings in the inspector general’s 434-page report released Monday….

The FBI has a sort of hybrid existence.
It’s treated in Congress as a semi autonomous agency but in actuality is an agency of the Justice Department and the Attorney General is the FBI Directirs nominal boss.
Sort of an unusual setup.
