It’s not HQ2, but just in time for Christmas, Amazon is coming to town after all.
The online retail giant announced Friday it will open up a new office in Midtown, giving the Big Apple another shot less than a year after pulling the plug on plans to build its new headquarters in Queens.
The company recently signed a lease for a 335,000 square-foot office space at 410 Tenth Ave., at the corner of W. 34th St. near the west side’s Hudson Yards neighborhood, said spokeswomen for Amazon and the SL Green real estate development company.
Some 1,500 Amazon employees will work at the building, which will officially open in 2021, said an Amazon spokeswoman. The 20-story building, built in 1927, is better known for its entrance at 460 W. 34th St.
Amazon already has about 8,000 employees in the five boroughs.
The Wall Street Journal first reported the new lease.
Amazon is moving into the new space without any of the special tax credits or city and state subsidies that it had been offered to build its second headquarters in Long Island City earlier this year, which had been expected to employ between 25,000 and 40,000 people…
