Sure to be impeached….
Donald Trump has quietly worked on those who will judge him in the US Senate on the House charges…
President Donald Trump is aggressively courting Senate Republicans as impeachment bears down, and on Thursday, he’ll come face to face with two of the most unpredictable jurors in any Senate trial: Mitt Romney and Susan Collins.
By day’s end, the president will have hosted more than 40 Republican senators at the White House since autumn began, mostly for weekly lunches that address a series of issues but also usually include a side of impeachment. Another group will head to the White House on Thursday, leaving just a handful of Republican senators untended by the president.
Romney has said it would be “wrong and appalling” for Trump to request foreign countries to dig up dirt on Joe Biden, prompting Trump to call Romney a “pompous ass.” But the Utah Republican seemed to be keeping an open mind heading into the meeting, even if impeachment comes up.
“It’s the president’s meeting. Whatever he wants to talk about, he can talk about,” Romney said. “I wasn’t expecting an invitation, but I’m happy to hear what the president wants to talk about.”…

In the real world, this is known as jury tampering.
Al Capone would be proud.

True That….

Fox News senior judicial analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano said Thursday on “Fox & Friends” that Democrats have a case for impeaching President Trump after U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland’s congressional testimony.
“One would expect the president, in September, after the whistleblower’s allegations came out, after the president was accused of a quid pro quo, to say ‘no quid pro quo.’ Here we go with the Latin again,” Napolitano said. “But it is clear from what Ambassador Sondland testified yesterday that there was an understanding that the president wanted some things from the Ukrainians.”

Considering Cingressnan Will Hurd didn’t even want to cross Trump yesterday what are the odds that Senate Republicans will.
I stand by my prediction that this will cause Susan Collins to announce a last minute retirement.
Cory Gardner is already toast. Tillis and McSally may burn for it too.
Ads run on impeachment didn’t save Republicans in Kentucky and Louisiana but the cult seems determined to stay in the car as it goes over the cliff. Even in the light of this week’s damning testimony.
Just as well. We’ll beat them all
My Name Is Jack says
I think the odds are no more than three Republicans in the Senate will vote to convict Trump.
These hearings have done nothing to sway Republicans at all.Trumps support has, if anything, solidified among the Republican electorate.
Accordingly , before these hearings I listed Romney,Collins and Murkowski as possible “yes” votes on removal.Ive seen nothing to cause me to revise that judgment. If anything, I believe there is probably a better chance that none or only one or two will vote to convict than more than three will.
CG says
Do you think all Senate Democrats will vote to acquit?
About how many House Democrats do you think will vote to not impeach?
jamesb says
We know which Democratic senators that will not vote against Trump
CG says
Name them.
My Name Is Jack says
Have no idea and regard it as irrelevant.
The whole issue is will a sufficient number of Republican Senators vote to convict?
The obvious answer?No they won’t.
Everything else is of interest only to those who care about the minutiae.
CG says
So you will give Democrats a pass for doing the same things Republicans will do.
That is part of the problem right there.
My Name Is Jack says
Oh that’s ridiculous.
Yeah a few Democrats might vote not to impeach in the House. And a few might not vote to convict in the Senate .
But almost all Republicans in the House will vote not to impeach and almost all in the Senate will vote not to convict.
In other words almost all Republicans in Congress will vote to support Trump yet here you are blaming the Democrats.
Unsurpring of course and total predictable.
CG says
Where did I exclusively blame the Democrats?
I will blame anyone who votes the way I think is wrong equally,
Will you?
My Name Is Jack says
All you want to do is to discuss the minutiae of how Individual Congresspeople vote.
I couldn’t care less.
What I Know is that there is no way in Hell that Trump is going to be removed.
A few weeks ago you were claiming that if Republicans saw the facts ,they might be swayed against him.Theyve now seen them .Their response? One big yawn.
They’re all in for Trump .Thats the bottom line.
CG says
You were the first to bring up names in a speculative fashion.
It seems odd you would do so and then point the finger when others join in the discussion you kicked off.
Again, we do not know for certain how this will turn out. What we do know are the principles at stake and that history is watching.
CG says
Since you won’t answer, I will attempt. The only Democrat wildcard is Manchin, I think all others will vote to convict.
Jones of AL is already a goner and the others in strong Trump states are not up this cycle.
There will be at least 10 House Democrats that will vote no on impeachment.
jamesb says
I agree with ya also on the impeachment charges outcome…
But I believe now that the full impeachment process is important to have Trump go thru even if he walks…
It HAS revealed a LOT
CG says
“But I believe now that the full impeachment process is important to have Trump go thru even if he walks…
It HAS revealed a LOT”
Glad you believe it now. I was saying it months ago.
My Name Is Jack says
Are you ready to admit that Republicans don’t give a damn about any of this and are Overwhelmingly still supporting Trump?
CG says
We will see what winds up happening, both in terms of the votes, (House, Senate, and America) but yes, we have a culture where power is respected more than the rule of law. Where everything is transactional based on what people think they can get out of it.
This did not happen over night. All those who have made excuses for past bad behavior or illegal activities or engaged in cult of personality hero worship in regards to fallible politicians or cheered on or shrugged as politicians (from either party) engaged in a win at all costs strategy are to blame.
My Name Is Jack says
That’s all well and good
But the simple reality ?Donald Trump owns the Republican Party and his employees are doing what he says and defending their employer.
CG says
And I’ve seen the reverse situation before too. We all have.
It was wrong both times and any other time a politician or someone powerful in society was defended or excused just because of their power or just to “send a message.” (OJ Simpson’s 1994 jury just to name one example.)
I will keep hoping America renews its purpose and becomes an even better place where in the words of Lt. Col Vindman, “Right matters.”
Scott P says
CG what will you do if Mitt Romney votes to acquit Trump?
CG says
The “if” game could be played all day. Let’s wait to see *if* something happens first. I am on the record in predicting he will vote to convict and we all know I have quite a winning streak with my political predictions.
What should I do though? I don’t get the relevance. As I said, I will “blame” anyone whom I think votes the wrong way, equally. It shouldn’t matter what letter they have next to their name.
My Name Is Jack says
That’s a fair position to take.
However to believe that more than a few Republicans will vote to convict Trump given his continuing overwhelming approval among Republican voters isn’t realistic.
Trump is not going to be convicted in any Senate trial and we all know that.
Accordingly , while simply saying “let’s wait and see” is a defensible position in theory? We all are reasonably certain what is going to happen.
My Name Is Jack says
And let’s be clear…
At the end of the day?
That’s the Only issue in an Impeachment trial.
CG says
Gee, I thought the issue was what Trump actually did.
I care first and foremost what the American people as a whole think about it rather than a select group of weathervane politicians.
My Name Is Jack says
Nice obfuscation.
No the Constitution says Nothing about”what the access did.”It ps about whether two thirds of the Senate votes to remove him from office.
It’s a political process.
I’m surprised a “conservative “ like you doesn’t grasp that.
My Name Is Jack says
“Accused”
CG says
An impeachment trial is a political process to determine what the accused did.
It’s very sad we even have to have one, let alone for the third time in our history.
As we know, no member of the accused’s political party has *ever* in American history voted to convict. We will see if the streak continues or gets broke in short order.
Yet, America has endured. this streak of perfect impeachment partisanship thus far. Hopefully, this will be the last Impeachment any of us will ever have to see, just like the horrible events of 56 years ago that some of you were alive for will hopefully be the last time that ever happens to a President too.
My Name Is Jack says
On the contrary I expect “impeachment “ to become a regular aspect of presidential life from here on out.
CG says
Let’s elect better people to the office then.
My Name Is Jack says
Yeah that’ll do it!
Scott P says
I think Democrats said that when Clinton was impeached. That it would just be s regular thing.
At least it didn’t happen with the next 2 Presidents after that.
CG says
Democrats multiple times did draft “Articles of Impeachment” against GWB during those years and some (such as one of our friends from here) suggested taking it outside of Congress to a foreign country with execution as the outcome.
And let’s also not forget that Donald Trump was one of the people saying GWB should be impeached.
CG says
*Some* Democrats did. I am not trying to suggest this was the offiical position of the party when GWB was President.
CG says
You are missing the big picture.
Does outcome always equal intention? I just don’t get the mindset. If something is right to do, then it should be done.
I suppose all the times Republican had majorities in the U.S. House and was certain to elect their choice as Speaker, you would have just advised the Democrats to stay in their offices and skip that vote. They weren’t going to win anyway, right?
My Name Is Jack says
I don’t know what youre even talking about.
My whole point is predicated on a Senate trial which of course is the culmination of the impeachment process.
What “mindset” are you talking about?
As for your analogy? That is totally off the wall.
I’m talking about the “trial.”
I’m simply stating the obvious as to the outcome. For some odd reason that seems to annoy you.
CG says
It’s irrelevant. You know more about politics than that. I just don’t understand why you look at a result you are predicting (though there is no guarantee you will be right) as the be all and end all?
The political battles go on one way or another. History will continue to take place one way or another.
The very concept of Trump being impeached is necessary and significant regardless of trial outcome. If this is important to you (and maybe it is not) focus on his guilt and how that can best be communicated, not be a defeatist on the outcome.
I know that you probably think it will make zero difference, but for your own sake, write a letter to your Senators (and maybe to your Dem House member who is probably feeling pressure to vote no)…
Take ten minutes to communicate why you think what Trump did was unacceptable and cannot be allowed to stand. Avoid mentioning anything about your pet economic issues or foreign policy unrelated to Russia/Ukraine or anything else that would be irrelevant.
Ten minutes. You might find it therapeutic.
My Name Is Jack says
Haha !yeah that what we all ought to do.
Write Republicans letters and tell them to turn on Trump.
Yeah that will work miracles and hey might be “therapeutic!”
I thought we were entering the holiday season.Turns out?Its the SILLY season!
CG says
And Alabama is almost certainly going to beat Western Carolina tomorrow, but they still have to show up to the game.
Scott P says
Donald Trump supported impeaching President Bush while Nancy Pelosi and the vast majority of Democrats did not.
Interesting trivia. But far from relevant today.
CG says
Sure, but I bet there were polls showing 50% plus of Democrats in favor of impeachment.
CG says
“In July 2007, Pelosi stated that she “would probably advocate” impeaching Bush if she were not in the House nor Speaker of the House.[11]”
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Efforts_to_impeach_George_W._Bush
Keith says
Selective editing here, because as Minority Leader Nancy publicly stated “she had no interest in pursuing impeachment against George Bush.” Doesn’t mean she didn’t think he was a war criminal, it means she can count.
But what does any of this have to do with the crimes Trump has committed or the fact that the Republicans, almost to a person, will stand behind the Mango Mussolini?
It’s important to remember none of this would be happening if Pelosi and the Democrats hadn’t taken the House back.
Also, 15 Republicans are still serving in the Senate who were in Congress when Clinton was impeached. Only one, Susan Collins, voted to acquit. How will those 14 turn Trump’s crimes into a blowjob.
Zreebs says
I doubt it greatly.
Scott P says
Hell I’ll email Senators Blunt and Hawley every day this week asking them to convict Trunonin a Senate trial.
I’ll let you know what I hear!
My Name Is Jack says
I personally eagerly await the response you receive!
And for certain it will be “therapeutic.”
