US Senator Mitt Romney (R-Utah) is one of the few Republican’s in office willing to step forward and publicly disagree with his party heads’s action…
Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) on Friday broke sharply with President Trump‘s call for China and Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden, calling it “wrong and appalling.”
“When the only American citizen President Trump singles out for China’s investigation is his political opponent in the midst of the Democratic nomination process, it strains credulity to suggest that it is anything other than politically motivated,” Romney said in a statement, which he also tweeted out.

As expected…
Trump directs fire at Romney….
President Trump lashed out at Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) after the Republican senator criticized Trump over his dealings with Ukraine.
Said Trump: “Somebody please wake up Mitt Romney and tell him that my conversation with the Ukrainian President was a congenial and very appropriate one.”
He added: “If Mitt worked this hard on Obama, he could have won. Sadly, he choked!”
In a subsequent tweet he called Romney a “pompous ass” who has been fighting me from the beginning….
Politicalwire….

Some day those words from the President will be marks of honour, like an attack against somebody from Joe McCarthy or George Wallace.
Or at least one hopes.
And it really takes some nerve for the biggest pompous ass in town (perhaps, as he would say, in all of human history) to use those words for Sen. Romney.

I keep saying…..

Yes I found that ironic too.
Then again, irony is keyword when discussing this family.
See Trump Jr Attack on Hunter Biden.

I thought that 9/11/2001 in Manhattan & Washington marked the Death of Irony.
But perhaps the ever-nostalgic and sentimental President wants to bring back the Good Old Days of OK Cola, slackers and cynics.
Make America Ironic Again!
(… as painful groans emanate from the grave of the great Merle Haggard: “I’m just a grifter from Manhattan…”)

Actually?
Donald Trump is Queens NYC guy…..
Born in Jamaica Hospital a few miles from JFK Airport….
And he grew up a few miles from there back in the day…
Democratic Socialist Dave says
But in which borough was he working when he started running for President?

Manhattan ….

Today Trump called for the impeachment of Mitt Romney.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Shows, of course, how little he knows or understands the Constitution that he’s spent three years assiduously undermining (rather than upholding and defending).
A U.S. Senator, by most of the definitions that any Federal court would accept, would not qualify among the “President, Vice President and other civil Officers of the United States” under Article II, section 4.
However, the Senate itself can “determine the Rules of its Proceedings, punish its Members for disorderly Behaviour, and, with the Concurrence of two thirds, expel a Member.” (Article I, section 6).
None of the 45 Democratic or 2 Independent Senators would see any reason to expel Mitt Romney, so two-thirds would be unreachable even if a majority of the Senate Republican Conference (each of whose members has sworn to uphold and defend the Constitution) had become so fascistized as to support expelling any Senator who displeases the White House of the day.
But to today’s President, every disagreement or criticism is ipso facto capital treason. Where have we seen that before (perhaps in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea ?)
Zreebs says
Dave, Do you really think that Trump would behave differently if he “knew” or “understood” the Constitution?

Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) told the Bangor Daily News that it was “completely inappropriate” for President Trump to urge China to investigate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.
Said Collins: “I thought the president made a big mistake by asking China to get involved in investigating a political opponent… It’s completely inappropriate.”…

Trump uses vulgarity, calls for Romney’s impeachment after senator criticizes president’s China, Ukraine appeals
… “Mitt Romney never knew how to win. He is a pompous ‘ass’ who has been fighting me from the beginning, except when he begged me for my endorsement for his Senate run (I gave it to him), and when he begged me to be Secretary of State (I didn’t give it to him). He is so bad for R’s!”…

Ass is actually not a vulgarity (equivalent to the British arse) here, but some kind of donkey, as in Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a “borrowed” ass on Palm Sunday.

China ain’t helping Trump against Biden….
China on Tuesday rejected President Trump’s call for Beijing to investigate 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son, saying it has no intention of intervening in U.S. domestic affairs.
“China has long pursued the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries,” foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told the South China Morning Post.
“We have no intention of intervening in the domestic affairs of the United States. Our position is consistent and clear.”…

This is like an episode of Veep, reality imitating art, “I’ll give you Tibet” instead of “I’ll remain silent of Hong Kong.” Donald Trump couldn’t hold, or fill for that matter, XI’s jock strap.

Let’s take a moment to acknowledge the shameful and irresponsible actions of the NBA this week, putting dollars ahead of the free speech rights of Americans.
How very sad to see someone like Steve Kerr, who has never been shy about expressing his political views, clam up and be meekly silent when asked now.
