I’ve mentioned often here that the standard polling reference that I use here and is used in the political world RealClear Politics HAS a right lean….
They actually pick and choose the polling sites they put into their averages that skews thing from time to time….
So?
I’m NOT surprised to find out that the site has a parent company pushing off the wall Right Wing crazy stuff….
The company behind the non-partisan news site RealClearPolitics has been secretly running a Facebook page filled with far-right memes and Islamophobic smears, The Daily Beast has learned.
Called “Conservative Country,” the Facebook page was founded in 2014 and now boasts nearly 800,000 followers for its mix of Donald Trump hagiography and ultra-conservative memes. One recent post showed a man training two assault rifles at a closed door with the caption “Just sitting here waiting on Beto.” Others wink at right-wing conspiracy theories about Barack Obama’s “ties to Islam” or the Clintons having their enemies killed, or portray Muslim members of Congress as terrorist infiltrators. The page is effusive with praise for Vladimir Putin, and one post portrays Russia as the last bastion of freedom in Europe.
It’s a far cry from the usual fare on RealClearPolitics. Founded in 2000, the site was an early online aggregator of political news, curating links to widely read politics stories and opinion articles in other major outlets. The site has become synonymous with its polling aggregator, which is regularly cited by news organizations on both sides of the aisle as an objective metric of major political races. In recent years, the site has expanded to cover health care, finance, foreign policy, and more….
….
Conservative Country isn’t the first ultra-partisan title that’s been connected to RealClear. A 2017 SEC filing listed RealClear co-founder John McIntyre as a director at FDRLST Media and put both companies at the same Chicago address. FDRLST Media is the parent company of The Federalist, the conservative news site behind last month’s false story claiming the deep state secretly revised official whistleblower regulations to allow the Trump-Ukraine whistleblower to provide secondhand information. Even after the story was widely debunked, Trump and several GOP lawmakers pushed it on social media and the Sunday morning political shows, and a link to the Federalist article appeared in 1600 Daily, the official White House newsletter….

I thought it was fairly well known that it is a Right Wing site?
So,yes, this is no real surprise.

I think a LOT of people did NOT know that RCP has a strong lean Right…
I, for one, have mentioned that they cherry pick the polling outfits they put in their averages….
So?
Although the media (And sometimes I) use their average’s as gospel?
One should always have a little doubt about them…
CG says
How can you say it has a lean when it literally prints everything?
It’s also just paranoia to think they pick and choose polls without being able to offer an example of that happening. Can you provide an example?
jamesb says
It HAS a lean….
And they DO exclude certain polls and push up others…
They don’t have to be loud about it…
CG says
Provide examples. Otherwise, you are just ranting without credibility.
Which polls have been excluded that do not fit the definition they say they include?
Which polls have been included that do not fit the definition they say they include?

I gave a shout out a few weeks ago about polls that had Trump BELOPW 40%….
RCP did NOT add those polls in until there where several OTHER polls above 40%…
RCP also uses the Fas polls tp bolster up Trump’s numbers…
This is NOT a new observation from this ole’ Dog…
CG says
Please be specific.
Which specific polls were included that should not have been and why?
Which specific polls were excluded that should have been included?

I wouldn’t call RCP a “right-wing site.” The two guys who founded the site have made no secret of leaning right and have often appeared as commentators, but the website prints just about everything written about politics from all kinds of sources.
It’s really no different than what Ron Gunzburger does etc, these days with his Twitter feed, although he sometimes expresses his own views among them. The guy who runs PoliticalLine, who is to the left, includes commentary in every post. That is different than RCP just being an aggregate of articles, opinion pieces, and polls.
The RCP average uses every published, non-campaign poll. There does not seem to be anything unfair or biased on how they utilize polls.

As to this specific “story”, it seems like many degrees of separation. I don’t believe the person listed as having some sort of affiliation with a Facebook site has been involved with RCP for years.
The Federalist does have pro-Trump writers but keep in mind that the editor of the publication also happens to be John McCain’s son in law.
