Interesting….
Sure will play well for progressives…
And will have Trump double down on his campaign , eh?
Biden could be setting unrealistic expectations, though…
Former Vice President Joe Biden today said if he’s elected president, he will build on what he called “the squeaky clean…environment” of the Obama White House and have a policy for his family’s work that’s different than President Trump’s.
“No one in my family will have an office in the White House, will sit in on meetings as if they’re a cabinet, will in fact have any a business relationship with anyone that relates to a foreign corporation or to a foreign country,” Biden said.
Biden’s comments came during a Sunday afternoon news conference in Iowa. His son’s attorney issued a public statement early Sunday morning saying Hunter Biden will resign from a Chinese company and will not take any foreign work if his father is elected president.
…
During an interview with Radio Iowa later Sunday afternoon, Biden said if he is elected, he will not follow President Ford’s example in pardoning Nixon so Nixon was not prosecuted for his role in Watergate.
“It wouldn’t unite the country,” Biden said. “You’d say: ‘Wait a minute. I get a parking ticket and I’ve got to pay it. This happens to me and I’ve got to go to jail. This guy does all these things that put us jeopardy and he gets off? I think this is of a different nature. And I think President Ford, God love him he’s a good guy, I knew him pretty well, I think if he had to do it over again he wouldn’t have done it…because he didn’t get re-elected.”….

I think Ford would have done it again and he received bipartisan plaudits in later years for doing it. Biden is confusing two very different matters.
If Biden is President, he should not pardon Trump nor should he involve himself in trying to lock him up. Let the Justice Department handle it.

As I point out?
Biden can say this now…
I do NOT see Donald Trump going to jail non matter who becomes the next President…
We simply do NOT put out political leaders in jail inn this country….
Not a Clinton…And most probably not a Trump either…

Well, I come from a state where Governors go to prison a lot. I wouldn’t rule it out for Trump.

Gerald Ford won 48.0% of the 1976 vote, while Jimmy Carter won with less than 50.1%. The Electoral College went Democratic 297-240. Had Ford hung onto next-door Ohio (25 electors) which Carter carried by only 0.27% plus any other single Carter state, he would have remained President.
So, while it’s plausible, it’s very hard to say that the decisive factor was the relative numbers of those who approved and those who strongly disapproved of the Nixon pardon. You could just as easily attribute it to the energy crisis, to the fall & haphazard evacuation of Saigon, the Mayagüez incident or to the failure of WIN (Whip Inflation Now).
¶ What, of course, bothers me the most is Trump playing his last desperate card and permanently pardoning himself. Ford pre-pardoned Nixon for any hypothetical Watergate crimes, so it’s easy to see Trump so pre-emptively pardon himself, his family and any favored associates. The one exception in Article II, section 2 of the Constitution is that his power to pardon and reprieve does not apply to impeachments, which I read to mean that if convicted by the Senate, he has no ability to nullify his removal from office.

The Chevy Chase portrayal on SNL was perhaps the deciding factor….

Which of course was literally false (Gerald Ford was in fact a star Michigan athlete), but served as a very effective (false or true) metaphor for the perception that the President — who’d never won election to any post higher than Congressman from Grand Rapids — was somewhat clueless and bumbling in the way he handled his job. (WIN buttons were an example in real life.)
